Halo 2 Lazy Rebalance

A lazy rebalance mod that doles out buffs to some of the underpowered parts of the sandbox and attempts to fix Halo 2's infamous Legendary difficulty.

With Sprinkles is broken and Ruby's isn't out yet, so I made a lazy rebalance mod to hold me over until those two come out. Being that this is my first ever Halo mod, there isn't much more besides basic stat changes for now, so please check out With Sprinkles when it's fixed and Ruby's Halo 2 Rebalanced when it's out--their work is awesome and will make this mod essentially obsolete. That said, after learning the basics of the Halo Editing Kit overnight, I do want to try something more robust in the future.

For now, though, here are the changes made:

Chief and Arbiter shields and health moderately increased (from 30/70 to 60/75)
Melee damage with standard weapons slightly increased and made to be consistent (lower and upper bounds the same)

SMG damage slightly increased (from 4.75 to 5.5)
SMG red reticle range slightly increased
SMG spread slightly decreased
SMG recoil removed a la Halo CE's AR
SMG reserve ammo increased to be on par with Halo CE's AR (can you tell I like the CE AR?)

Magnum damage doubled (from 8 to 16)
Magnum reserve ammo increased

Battle Rifle reserve ammo slightly increased

Shotgun red reticle range increased
Shotgun spread slightly decreased
Shotgun projectiles now expire at the same distance as the other human weapons
Shotgun damage drop off greatly decreased
Shotgun pellet damage slightly increased (16.5 to 17.5)

Plasma Pistol standard bolt damage moderately increased (from 7 to 12)
Overcharge unaffected

Plasma Rifle damage slightly increased (and consequentially the Brute Plasma Rifle as they share the same projectile file) (from 6 to 8)
Brute Plasma Rifle fire rate increased at the cost of worse spread, incentivizing burst firing
Brute Plasma Rifle heat generation slightly decreased
Brute Plasma Rifle heat loss slightly increased

Energy Sword lunge damage substantially increased (to reduce enemies tanking a lunge and then killing you immediately) (from 150 to 200)
Energy Sword slice damage substantially increased (from 100 to 150)

Carbine damage increased from 11 to 14

Needler now does more melee damage
Rocket launcher and fuel rod now do more consistent melee damage

A lot of adjustments to projectile tracking and enemy firing patterns to make Legendary a more consistent and fair experience
Toned down Legendary damage multiplier from 1.5 to 1.25 (Heroic is 1 for reference)
A lot of adjustments to enemy health and shields to make the transition from Heroic to Legendary less insanely sharp while remaining challenging
- Elites have slightly stronger shields and health on difficulties besides Legendary (40/80 instead of 30/70)
- Elites will dodge attacks more frequently
- Heretic Elites now have stronger shields and health
- Brutes have had their Legendary health reduced to the same as Heroic (from around 250 to 150)
- Bugger health has been reduced on Legendary to be the same as other difficulties (from 45 to 30)

While Legendary is for sure much easier, it should (hopefully) make for a more consistent, fair, and challenging experience.

Engagement distance is currently unchanged. I'll look into what a proper change, if needed, should look like. To be honest, I just hadn't thought of it much when playtesting. I'd be interested in hearing how people think it should be changed, though.

personally all i was looking for was a health boost, but this works too.

turns out halo 2 isn't hard, just unbalanced.

@Donut I think Kat’s Campaign (highly recommend) adjusts spread/damage drop off for the SMG but I’m not sure, that said I’m considering making my own Halo 3 mod at some point and I definitely feel the same way about the SMG, and also the AR

@icehorse super appreciate the kind words man, I totally encourage you to get into it, I’m pretty dumb so if I can learn it basically overnight you for sure got that, and yeah Inferno and Ruby have been big inspirations for me lol

Jackals are no longer be able to one shot you from full shields, even on Legendary.

Anyone know a mod that for Halo 3 campaign that increase SMG ammo reserve and range and damage? If I could I would play the whole game with a SMG, love the thing..
