Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour is a total overhaul mod for Hearts of Iron IV. Beginning in 1933, the world is still reeling from the effects of the 1929 Wall Street Crash. With the rise of extremism in Europe, the uneasy peace that ended the Great War appears to be on the verge of unravelling, and the world's nations vie for their place in the sun.

We have made one of the most historically accurate World War II experiences you can find, placing heavy focus on immersion, flavor, plausibility and accuracy. With absurdly well-researched content, a wholly original graphical style, a completely overhauled map, various new original mechanics and more, Darkest Hour is unlikely to disappoint.

The 1.1 release for Darkest Hour includes playable experiences for all seven major nations (UK, USA, USSR, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan), as well as for Ethiopia and Poland. The game runs from the year 1933 to the year 1953, spanning the interwar, World War II and the early Cold War.

Our alternative history content focuses on plausible diversions from history, such as an Axis victory, Operation Unthinkable, Operation Groza or equivalent Soviet invasion of Europe, the Moscow-Berlin Axis, a failed Great Purge, an Alf Landon presidency, alternate divisions of Germany and similar!

We acknowledge that a project of this size is very likely to have bugs, crashes or other issues, so we encourage you to be patient and to report your issues to us.
There will be be hotfixes and patches released over time to fix these issues.

Darkest Hour is a complete and total overhaul of both frontend and backend. There is a very large chance that other mods will not be compatible or break the game. We recommend only using our officially endorsed submods.
If you would like to ask us about compatibility with a specific mod, make a post on our Discord support forum.

Mod is not compatible with most music mods. So if you see an image pinned in the left corner of your screen, it probably means you have to disable your music mods.

No DLCs are required to play Darkest Hour.
