The looking backwards is controlled by a pose parameter, not a gesture animation. And even through manually running a constant think hook to force the survivor to look backwards, the client doesn't care and will still render the normal broken pose parameter for facing forwards. So this is building up to be something only Valve can fix.

Tried an unsuccessful attempt a long time ago in this thread, gave up on it from feeling like it's another client-side bug that just can't be either fixed or smoothly overwritten by a different system.
