-high in the steam properties launch command doesnt always work for me so heres a way around it that yields consistent performance.

Here is a simple way to increase the game performance without messing with any ingame graphical settings and renderer (DX12/Vulkan) although you should also do that if its still bad after this guide.

It's simply done by automatically setting the priority the game runs at on your computer rather than going to task manager to do it.

This has helped my game run way better and smoother than it normally does. I hope this helps you too.

Navigate to your install of EUV/EU5 (Europa Universallis V) not documents.

For me it was here E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis V\binaries

Create a shortcut from the "eu5.exe" and rename it to something shorter.

right click the shortcut and edit its properties.

Input this into the target field:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high "E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis V\binaries\eu5.exe"

obviously change it to where your eu5.exe (the original) is.



Confirm that it works- if it does you did it correctly. Now alt+f4 or task manager the game away.

To make it always start this way go to steam and right click eu5 on the library list.

go to the general selection and input these starting arguments.

"E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis V\binaries\eu5.lnk" %command%

again obviously change it to where your created shortcut is.



Now your game should always start as high priority!

You can repeat this on any game you want for extra performance!

like I wrote at the start -high will work too but this is more consistent for me (especially for games that have multiple reboots) and actually does what its meant to without fail.
