Introduction
In this guide you will learn how to customize / disable the spellcheck of the Steam Client.

You don't need to edit any files, this can be done with a graphical UI in the Steam Client.

The spellcheck is provided by the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF for short), so the described settings are similar to the actual Chrome / Chromium browser.
Open a browser window
  1. Right-click any link on the Steam store and choose Open link in new tab to create a new browser window in the Steam client.

You can use the Store Page button at the top right of this page, for example.

  2. Now you can type any URL into the address bar of that new browser window.
Customize / Disable Spellcheck
  1. Go to this URL:
    chrome://settings/languages

  2. Either turn off all languages listed under Spell check to completely disable the feature.

This will also turn off Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages.

  3. Alternatively, you can customize the spell check to suit your needs.
Only enable the languages you want and disable all others.

You can add new languages by clicking Add languages in the top right corner.
Don't forget to enable them under Spell check afterwards.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with the spellcheck settings (settings don't work / settings are reset after a client restart), please follow these steps:

  1. Exit Steam completely.

  2. Delete everything inside this folder:
    %localappdata%\Steam\htmlcache

  3. Start Steam again.

  4. Set your spellchecking settings again (as described above).

Please note:
This method deletes the browser cache for the Steam client, so a few minor settings (e.g. autoplay videos, news hub filters, in-game overlay positions) will be reset.
