If you haven't done this yet, hit your "B" button, go to stations



Select repair workbench



Go ahead and craft it and place it in your base. If you don't have the materials to make it, then go to your workbench and make them



Now that you have a workbench, lets get to work fixing stuff.

Click on the repair workbench, it will bring up whatever inventory you have on you at the time.



Ok, now lets click on the spiked baseball bat.



The game will tell you what items you need to have on you (in your inventory) to repair the item (tools and materials). If you don't have the item(s), it will show in red.

Different items require different things, some are really not worth repairing and you should just go loot another one. Let's choose some Firefighter gloves



The firefighter gloves require leather strips and hard leather strips. Leather strips are easy to find dismantling dead zombie clothes, but hard leather strips must be crafted. I will cover that in the basic hunting section.

You can fix many items here, from weapons to car parts. As mentioned previously, repairing some items is too costly so just go loot another one. Let's take the car battery as an example

My battery here is completly charged, but it is deteriorating (going bad).



When I go to the repair workbench and look at it it tells me I need a lot of stuff to repair it



I would rather search another vehicle for one or loot one from a garage or store. Besides, my sweet baby needs a fresh one.

Types of animals we are farming (presently, updates might change this). I am not being smart when I label these animals. Some people don't live in the geographic area and may be unfamiliar with the wildlife in New York State. Some people may have lived in a city their entire life and have never seen animals. Some people have never hunted.

There is a little RNG (random number generator - or luck as some people call it) with animal drops. it is like any other loot container, you may need to kill several to get one. My apologies for some of the night pictures, I couldn't find my other animal screenshots so I went road hunting at night to finish this guide.

Deer (for some reason I have seen nothing but bucks in this game, male deer with antlers)
They give deer meat (venison is what we call it)



Fox (you will often hear them yipping or barking)
They will give fox meat and fur pelt




Pig
Will give pork, bacon sometimes, and raw leather strips





Cow
Will give beef

Wolf (they will attack you - I was trying to sneak up on this one for a good pic but it attacked me)
Will give wolf meat and pelt





Boar (will attack you)
Will give pork and raw hard leather




Rabbit (the most crazed and sadistic animal in the game - not really)





Told you I was road hunting, saw a boar, slammed on the brakes ran out and it tried to get away. 2 shots in the ring piece put it down.



Some weird stuff with animals

You can pet them if they get stuck on a wall or you sneak up on them when they are sleeping. I pet this pig 20 times, but he didn't love me back.



This is a picture of a boar that was chasing a fox, they ran into a zombie that killed them both, then I killed the zombie.

Congratulations on your successful safari/expedition.

The first thing you need to do, if you haven't already, is build a drying rack. In order to do this you need to hit the "B" button, then select utilities and click on the drying rack



Go ahead and build it



Now interact with your drying rack (can be a pain to bring up the interact, try going at an angle on the end pieces)



Now take your raw materials and put them in the rack



Now you can continue playing your game or do whatever you want, but it takes approximately 1 real life hour for the materials to dry in game. Once it is dry retrieve it from the drying rack and repair your gear.

One side note: If you are going to repair all your gear at once, it is better to use a book to increase experience first. I don't have the repair book in my inventory, and after looking for about an hour in game for one, I decided to picture this similar book for boosting the electrical skill.



So what do I do with the pelts. Nothing yet, but I would continue to gather and store them for when they update the game and require pelts for repair. They didn't include hard leather strips in the demo until right before release. It was just called leather then. Now there are leather strips, hard leather strips, raw leather, and raw hard leather, and these pelts.
