Walkthrough
You can do all this with notepad. In notepad, press ctrl + f to quickly find these settings.
  1. Go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2
  2. Open user_settings.config
  3. Set particles_cast_shadows to false (it is already disabled for some machines).
  4. Set particles_receive_shadows to false
  5. Set particles_local_lighting to false
  6. Set particles_tesselation to false
Next
  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Helldivers 2\data
  2. Open settings.ini
  3. Change memory_size = 26214400 to 78643200
  4. Change num_refills_in_voice = 2 to 4
then you're done! Me and others who have tried it have noticed no visual downgrade.
I'll add the nerd ♥♥♥♥ details later if I'm not lazy
p.s. what the hell is with all that preamble that these guides have? this isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ google, there's no SEO. anyways happy diving.

After lowering wwise audio in settings.ini I haven't had any freezes for 3 days.
I'm not sure tbh but this is what I have:
wwise = {
io_device = {
max_cache_ratio = 0.8
memory_alignment = 64
target_buffering_length = 512
memory_size = 52428800
max_concurrent_io = 100
granularity = 131072
use_blocking_io = false
}
sound_engine = {
command_queue_size = 262144
pool_size = 16777216
num_samples_per_frame = 1024
}
shared_platform = {
num_refills_in_voice = 8
}
data_dir = "content/audio"
enabled = true
}

Extra things after fixing the freezes, but no issues still
1. I have game mods installed. (Megumin Explosion lol)
2. Using ReShade for SMAA and Sharpening
3. Frame Generation through LSFG-VK (Linux) + Lossless Scaling App (Windows)
Also I'm on Linux(CachyOS)

performance is still meh but has improved since i changed the game from dx12 to dx11 my framerate has been more stable and yet to have a crash you can use the commandline (--use-d3d11) without brackets

Bro, you saved me from crashes. Thank you!

While this does seem like it could fix performance issues, the freezing issue most people have right now on the bot front isn't performance related. It's the audio engine crashing and rebooting which is doing it, not particle shadows eating all the performance. So while this could definitely help people, I don't think it's the solution most people are looking for...

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the anti-cheat. Most of the issues come from that rather then the actual game

I am genuinely baffled by how this game's engine manages to perform worse than universally hated UE5
