Surround Sound for 64Bit (Windows)
由 TehSpoopyKitteh 制作
This guide will show you how to restore surround sound for the 64bit Windows version of Unreal Tournament 2004. It should work for both the GoG and Steam versions. If you have the Steam version of UT2k4, follow this guide if you haven't already done so.

File Prep
1. Start the game and make sure that the Use System Hardware option is disabled in the audio settings. If it is enabled, disable it. Otherwise leave it be.

2. You need to create a text file and name it alsoft.conf. PLace it in UT2004's System folder. Leave it for now. Those two folders have OpenAL Soft's .dll files in them. Both are named "soft_oal.dll"

3. Download the latest stable version of OpenAL Soft.[github.com]

4. Unpack it wherever you like and open up the bin folder. You will see Win32 and Win64. Leave that folder open.

5. In UT2004's System folder look for either DefOpenAL64.dll or DefOpenAL32.dll. only have one of them don't worry, this should still work...though I used the one int he 64 bit folder.

6. Take a look in UT2004's System folder If you have both DefOpenAL64.dll and DefOpenAL32.dll, or only DefOpenAL64.dll, use the soft_oal.dll in the Win64 folder. If you have only DefOpenAL32.dll, use the soft_oal.dll in the Win32 folder.

7. Make a copy of the soft_oal.dll file and paste it into OpenAL Soft's bin folder. Rename the copy to match the name of the DefOpenAL dll file you found in UT2004's System folder.

Congratulations, you are now half way there!!
"Code"
This next section isn't tricky and involves using OpenAL Soft's UI. NEVER CLICK APPLY

1. Copy-paste this code into alsoft.conf using notepad.Take note of the channels line as "surround51". Save and exit.

[General] drivers=wasapi channels=surround51 frequency=48000 period_size=1024 periods=2 stereo-mode=speakers hrtf=off resampler=linear output-limiter=true [wasapi] spatial-api=false allow-resampler=true [decoder] hq-mode=true

Save it and enable hardware sound in the settings in game.

2. Go to your Open ALSoft installation folder and open "...\alsoft-config\alsoft-config.exe". Its UI will pop up. Click on the File drop-down menu and click on Load.

3. Navigate to UT2004's System folder, select, alsoft.conf, and click on open.

4. Notice the settings? Leave everything alone except the Channels and Stereo Settings alone in the Playback tab. Set the channels to match your surround sound setup.

4-a (OPTIONAL): if you want to use HRTF for surround sound headphones, set Stereo Settings to Headphones...Head over to the HRTF tab and set the preferred HRTF to Built-In-HRTF and set the slider to Quality.

5. When you are done...DO NOT CLICK APPLY. Instead, repeat step 2 but click on SAVE instead. Navigate to UT2004's System folder, select, alsoft.conf, and click on open. Exit ALSoft Config by clicking on the X in the upper right to close it down.
