Here are some things that might help new players.
Basic questions
Building
How do I get more track?
  • Park the train at the small platform at your home station. The track will refill.
How do I get more dirt when I run out?
  • You can build a mining spur. Dig into a hillside or build down at an angle.
How do I get rid of dirt when I have too much?
  • You can build a dumping spur. Build over a valley or up at an angle.
How do I build signals?
  • Signals are available from map 3 onwards. On map 3 you need to connect the factory.
How do I cross those little streams on map 3?
  • You need to use one of the pre-existing bridges or go around the end.
Operating

How do I increase my dirt or rail capacity?
  • You buy more dirt or rail cars and attach them to your train. The cars will spawn at your home station where you can attach them. Note that your train will become more sluggish as you add cars.
How do I get money to buy stuff?
  • You need to connect some industries to earn the rewards.

An AI train is in the way, how do I move it?
  • You could hop in it and drive it away. However, it will return to AI control within a minute of you leaving it.
  • You could derail it by standing next to it and selecting the derail option. This will give you a couple of minutes.

  • You could send it back to it's starting place by derailing it then selecting to reset it.

  • You could build a wrong way sign to stop the AI trains from travelling along a section of track. Note that the AI train will only obey this sign after it respawns.
How do I complete a map to unlock the next one?
  • You need to get the total levels of the mines/factories to add up to the amount required for the map. In the illustration below the levels add up to 15. The map only required 15 to complete but there are 22 achievements.
