BTO ( RANK 1.0 ) ( 🇩🇪 German Empire) ( heavy tank ) ( A7V )

Описание
🧭 A7V Tank – Overview and History
The A7V was the first German tank, entering service in 1918 during the final year of World War I. Unlike the British rhomboid tanks, the A7V had a box-shaped armored hull mounted on a tracked chassis, offering more interior space but poorer trench-crossing ability.

Only 20 combat vehicles were built, making it a rare sight on the battlefield. It was heavily armed and armored for its time but mechanically unreliable.

🛠️ Design and Features
Rectangular armored "box" mounted on a Holt tractor suspension.

Fully enclosed crew compartment with better headroom than British tanks.

Wooden planks were used for the floor, similar to British practice, to reduce vibration and noise.

Heavily armed for an infantry support role, with a forward-mounted cannon and multiple machine guns.

Required an unusually large crew — up to 18 men.

⚔️ Combat Use
First saw action on March 21, 1918 during the German Spring Offensive.

Most famous for the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux (April 24, 1918) — the first tank-vs-tank battle in history, where A7Vs fought British Mark IVs.

Hampered by poor mobility in rough terrain, but effective on firm ground.

🔧 Notable Features
First German tank design.

Heaviest crew complement of any WWI tank.

More comfortable for the crew than British designs, but more prone to mechanical failure.

Limited production meant little strategic impact.
