How to load a previous autosave and undo a softlock
由 ArgentumStaar 制作
It is not uncommon to get yourself softlocked in this game by getting stuck in the level geometry and the game autosaving. This guide will show you where to find and delete the bad autosave and bring you back to right before you got stuck.

Intro
The Pathless auto saves constantly, with the option to manual save if you'd like. Normally that would be fine because you can't die in this game, but there is an equivalent- getting stuck, and if you don't have a recent manual save you may be unable to get out without losing a significant amount of progress or starting over entirely.

However, one upside to the game saving all the time is the fact that it actually keeps your 12 most recent auto saves in the game's files, and most importantly, you can still get to them. There were no guides for this when it happened to me, so I decided to make one.
Path to files
The path to reach the game's save files is as follows:

C:\Users\<YourUser>\AppData\Local\Pathless\Saved\SaveGames\Steam\ (and then the folder containing the files)

Where it says <YourUser> you will instead find a folder with your own name under Users.

Keep in mind that the AppData folder may be hidden for you. If you cannot find it, find the button saying View, and follow the dropdown list going View>Show>HiddenItems, and make sure Hidden Items is checked.

When you have found your save files, they will look like this:

Removing the bad autosave
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, be sure that you copy the folder with all your save data to another folder somewhere safe, that removes any risk of you deleting too much, as you can always put whatever you take out back again.

Next, look closely at the time it says each folder was last modified. Do not look at the save file's number, as they do not get used in sequential order. If you know exactly when you got stuck, that will help you a lot. You can comb through the times of the save files and delete any that were modified after that time. If you're not sure, look for the most recently modified file and delete that one, open the game again and press continue. If you still find yourself stuck, close the game, and continue to delete the next most recent files until you are free.

After deleting the bad saves, your folder will look something like this, and that's perfectly fine! The game will simply load whichever auto save is the most recent and as time goes on and the game saves as normal, which ever number saves you deleted will be replaced. You will eventually have the full 1-12 again.

Thank you for reading, and let me know if this helps! Have a great day. <3
