Tier Justification
S Tier – The best of the best.

A Tier – An amazing pick.

B Tier – Pretty solid, though nothing exciting.

C Tier – An okay weapon, but try to swap if you can.

F Tier – The worst of the bunch. Oftentimes worse than wands.
S-tier
Idol of Damnation - the best spell in the game and depending on your playstyle, it can even be considered the best weapon in the game period. It is amazing in short-medium range, very mana-efficient, self-buffs with +10% cursed damage buff, and is both great at clearing rooms and killing bosses. The projectiles pierce through enemies, which is massive, and is the primary reason why it is better than its fire and ice counterparts (check tiers below). Never use this weapon's alternate fire, as it has short range and low damage.

Enchanted Butterflies - a pretty braindead weapon that you can use on auto-pilot. It is not an exaggeration, as you can literally shoot upwards to the ceiling non-stop and the butterflies will find the targets on their own. You can just run around and shoot in any direction that isn't a wall, without a care in the world. This weapon is so great that you can fully focus your brain on dodging and collecting drops, completely ignoring aiming.
A-tier
Mjölnir - this is one of the best weapons for beginners, as it homing, but teaches you to align shots to ensure you're rewarded for your efforts when a single projectile hits more than 2 enemies. By far the most mana-efficient spell in the game and alternate fire is also a nice emergency poke that teaches zoning and kiting. The weapon self-buffs with +7% basic damage buff, which is also the damage type of many great weapons in this game.

Sacrificial Dagger [DLC exclusive] - don't worry, this isn't a melee weapon. In fact, it is one of the better room-clearer spells. The projectiles actually push the enemies back slightly, which makes it a great pick vs melee bosses, as it is a guaranteed setback. It also applies a wide DPS upgrade on fire-type weapons in the form of fire rate increase, so that's also good.

Hellish Ember - this is a very solid weapon and it definitely deals more DPS than the listed value. It feels a lot like the "Idol of Damnation" but lacks piercing property and is slightly weaker. The +10% fire damage buff elevates it from B-tier, as there are many great fire-element weapons in other slots.
B-tier
Lich Breath - if you ever used a "Dark Cannon" (alchemical rifle), this will immediately feel like a worse version of that. This weapon, however, has piercing projectiles, so it is great at clearing rooms. Still, it is leagues below "Idol of Damnation" in every area. Not great for killing bosses.

Spectral Bolt - this weapon's projectiles have homing property, though they behave strangely. It is almost as if for the first second or two the projectiles forget that they are supposed to be homing. Also, if you're shooting towards a group with several enemies, the shots end up spreading evenly, which is the opposite of you want to do when clearing rooms. I would advise using it against isolated targets from a very far range, as this spell works best from very far.

Angelic Rapier - the better of the 2 "swords" in the game. The primary fire is often a liability so stick to alternate fire. This weapon shoots in wide arc, which isn't great, but you can definitely work with it. The fact that it applies +7% Basic damage buff, which essentially means it self-buffs, is a huge factor for many weapons in this category, as there is no shortage of good basic-type weapons in other slots.

Skull of Xanatos - another weapon with homing shots, except these ones are much easier to land. Ideal for very long range and you should avoid using it in close range. The way I would use it is to shoot several primary shots as you enter the room and a few more as enemies are still spawning, and your shots will inevitably hit several targets. After that, you may switch to another weapon.
C-tier
Freezing Hail - not to be confused with "Chill Splinters". This weapon shoots like "Idol of Damnation", except with ice element and horrible passives. 9 times out of 10 you will feel like it isn't too different from "Hellish Ember" when it comes to projectile behavior. Good for clearing rooms, okay for killing bosses, unless boss is obstructed by minions in which case it becomes horrible.

Bonestorm Cutlass - I wouldn't disagree if you said that this belongs in F-tier, though this weapon has one huge thing going for it and that is mana-efficiency. It is extremely efficient at killing enemies without spending nearly any mana, but you don't want to be standing point-blank to enemies, so this weapon doesn't work with design choices of the game itself. Alternate fire isn't great, as you shoot 4 projectiles in a very wide arc.

Black Onyx - barely better than a wand. This weapon has a mild knockback, which makes it solid vs pursuer-type enemies. Feels awkward to aim with, so for newer players this would feel like an F-tier weapon.

Chill Splinters - not to be confused with "Freezing Hail". This weapon feels much worse to use, as it has shorter range. Don't be fooled by the huge DPS number, as you end up wasting most of the shots because it shoots in a very wide range. The +10% ice damage buff is nice, but there aren't many great ice weapons in other slots to benefit from this.
F-tier
Pandora's Box - don't believe this weapon's DPS stat on the screen, as it is overinflated. In every single case it will deal low damage, unless you're shooting at a large crowd and if you are - there are better weapons for that. It feels extremely wasteful when it comes to mana, when firing primary fire at a single target. The alternate fire is theoretically supposed to remedy it, but it costs way too much mana. So we have a weapon that is designed to clear crowds, but it is bad at it, and have alternate fire for single targets, but it drains way too much mana.

Dragon Bile - shortest range of all spells, worse DPS than wands, useless passives, poison element. This weapon doesn't have anything good going for it.

Rotten Orb - you should also not believe the DPS stat of this weapon, because what ends up happening is that you shoot 4 shots and only land 2 of them at best. You can mentally halve the DPS and what we get is a weapon that is barely on wand level. Alternate fire is better (in theory), but it is way too slow to be practical. I'd consider this one of the worst weapons in the game alongside Dragon Bile.
