📌 Set the game in your language

By default, Half-Life VR Mod is only available in English.
But if you own Half-Life 1 in another language on Steam, it is possible to transfer the language files to play the mod in your preferred language.

This guide explains step by step how to do it.

🗂️ Step 1: Get the language files
  1. Go to the installation folder of Half-Life 1:
    For Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\valve_{your_lang}
    For Linux:
    ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life/valve_{your_lang}
  2. Copy the entire content of this folder (files and subfolders).
🗂️ Step 2: Paste into the VR Mod
  1. Go to the installation folder of Half-Life VR Mod:
    For Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life VR Mod\valve
    For Linux:
    ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life VR Mod/valve
  2. Paste the copied files and accept overwriting when prompted.
✅ Step 3: ENJOY!
Launch Half-Life VR Mod from Steam.
The menus, subtitles, and texts should now appear in your chosen language 🎉
⚠️ Important notes
The VR mod–specific menus will remain in English (they are not translated).
If you want to go back to English, just verify the integrity of the game files via Steam to restore the original version.
