FNG Field Manual
由 MrBeast 制作
Hey guys, I noticed that a lot of people starting off seem to have trouble navigating through basic ♥♥♥♥. Unexpected bugs, unclear mechanics, and general jank. The US army has asked me to write this field manual to help school you ♥♥♥♥♥♥' new guys on how to survive in the jungle - I'm going to provide some simple alternative solutions and warnings about what features may not function as expected, as well a basic guide on how to play the game, so YOU can focus on killing those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ commies and bringing some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ freedom to this place.

Good Morning Vietnam
Slots
You have 2 save slots, one for each faction. To swap slots, click the Faction text. When making a new game, select the same faction as you see on the main menu.

Your Kit: Simple Things
Take a look at the bottom left of your screen, all the stuff you have. In the rations tab, a menu pops up that has your food, water, cigarettes, and some other things. Make sure to smoke a lot, it makes you look badass, and the VC will be scared to ♥♥♥♥ with you. Your character will usually ♥♥♥♥♥ when he starts to get hungry, but you can click H to see your status at any time. There are a couple tents or buildings around GI camps that you can sleep in if you're feeling tired. Your zippo can be used to start campfires. Your shovel is used to construct things - you can purchase supplies for building at stores or request resupplies using your radioman (see "Things That May Not Work" for additional info about Construction-related bugs). At higher levels, you will acquire a handheld radio - you can recharge this at the generator around your base.

Your Kit: Combat Things
These are much more important. Obviously you have your guns in the top right. If you can't figure out how to use those, I'm sorry soldier. You can get more guns at the armories that some GI bases have, sometimes in open tents as well, and you can find willy petes in the bunkers. They may also have a weaponsmith, who will upgrade your weapons. In the bottom left, your M18 smoke grenade is a VERY useful tool, don't forget it - click it and check it out. Lastly, click V to swap from full auto to semi auto. To Resupply gear, you can respawn (note: not every base auto-resupplies), request from radio, or run up to crates at bases.

Medic!
The meds tab is for healing. Morefine and Ketamoan temporarily increase your HP's maximum cap, and apply some temporary HP for tanking. Dextro pills replenish your energy. Bandages permanently heal. Super glue can be used on wounded friendlies to heal them. You can pick up downed men by clicking J, bring them to medevac or a medical tent. If you find a skeletal, rotten dead soldier, you can report his body by standing close and staring at him.

Inventory
Click i. Check it out. Don't forget to clean your weapon, because it will jam all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time if you don't. You'll see the cleaning kit on one of the screens. You can also change your outfit.

Walkin' Around
You'll get used to it. When going up a steep hill, if it's hard, turn slightly and move along the side of the hill a bit, then try to go up again, repeat this process until you're going up easily. Wiggling your mouse works too.

Base Radio
Can be hard to find, it has a little yellow exclamation point over it. Usually in a building or tent with sandbags around it. You can get a lot of cool stuff from here, and can request new missions. Furthermore, you can click TAB to view the status of the war at any time.

Radioman!
Click F2 twice to summon him. He is our direct link to the brass, giving us access to a large variety of ways to deliver freedom directly onto your target with high accuracy. There are multiple different radio channels with different kinds of support, make sure to check them out - able to call in vehicles, infantry, gunships, and more!

Airstrikes
Can be targeted by eyeballing, binoculars (B), or by using the map. To use the map to target artillery, click M to open the map, then click a position on the map - you should see a black marker appear. In the bottom right hand corner of the map screen, you should see the red text "Send Target Coords" - click this text and it will turn your marker into an airstrike marker. You can look around the map by clicking and dragging. Make sure to look at the sky when calling map-targetted support or it ♥♥♥♥♥ up.

Airlifts/Flying
Are similar to airstrikes. If you choose not to fly and instead ride passenger, you can direct the helicopter on where to go by opening the map and selecting a village or base to fly to. Be wary, the AI actually landing the damn thing can be inconsistent, and I usually prefer to fly myself. Most importantly, be WARNED - those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NVAs have AA guns all over the jungle, they got RPGs and machineguns and hinds. Helicopters are highly vulnerable when coming in to land. Call them at the wrong time or wrong place and they WILL get shot down. If you're flying yourself, your best strategy to avoid dying is to try and move as fast as possible. If you want your units to board the helicopter, you must gather them all near it first (they will not come automatically), then pilot and hit B. Keep in mind - any nearby units that aren't in your squad will hop in as well, if they're too close.

Commanding your Squad
Most important thing about survival in the jungle is teamwork - if you're out there alone, the VC will sneak up behind you and slit your throat and cut off your ♥♥♥♥. There is plenty of options at the bottom left to command your squad, and you should check them out, they're pretty self-explanatory. Lots of cool commands, such as Dig In, which has your men make foxholes. To get them to follow you, click F1 and select a formation. FNGs can be lazy and might lag behind or not listen - spam F4 on the ground to remind them to move their ass. Sometimes they are stuck, in this case, try Respawning. It should spawn them on you - if it doesn't, your last option is to reload the save. Whenever you make contact with the VC, you gotta hit the dirt - click F to order your squad to take cover - they'll get low and remain that way until you order them to get back up. Click Q to spot enemies for your squad and direct their fire.

Commanding Other Squads
Buggy. Generally, you can make them follow you, or go to a certain position. F5, the Follow command, may be inconsistent. Alternative solutions:

Method 1: Waypoints
  • open your map
  • select a squad (should see a white box appear)
  • click a position on the map, ensure your marker appears
  • click "Go to Waypoint" in the top right (text must be on an 'empty' part of the map, no icons beneath, scroll out if necessary)
  • a black line should now appear
  • to move large groups, it is easiest to simply blob them together and move them as one giant horde
Keep in mind you must be nearby to the squad to keep it active and moving. Furthermore, there is a chance they can get stuck trying to go up hills, requiring you to readjust your waypoint to free them.

Method 2: Abduction

As previously stated, helicopters scoop up any nearby unit, regardless of whether or not they are in your squad. This being the case, it is a good way to bring other squads to the exact destination you desire! Works well when combined with the waypoint strategy - drop them in a safe area, then direct them to the target. Thanks Wolfey for telling me about this interesting alternative method.

Civilians
Can be interacted with in 3 ways. It can be a little bit buggy and you may need to click them quite a few times using LMB. The Vietnamese people seem to have got the hang of capitalism, and there are plenty of stores for you to peruse. You will occasionally get missions to go to villages - don't forget to check out everyone's papers. There are many prisons across Vietnam run by the ARVN. Remember why you're here. Freedom.

VP
Victory Points. Find them on the map as stars in colored circles. Go to this location, search around until you find the same icon floating in the air. Sit underneath it. Capturing these is how you win the game, bases don't matter.

Things that May Not Work
This guide does not include boats. I don't fly jets either because my game can't handle them.[/i]

  • commanding men can be inconsistent, AI may not listen all the time
  • saves are buggy, be prepared for bases to flip, enemies to respawn and things to bust up if you choose to play through the same save file
  • NVA Artillery is off target last i checked.
  • soldiers may vanish if they die in a helicopter. you must save and reload the game to fix this.
  • No knife/No pistol bug - Swap corps to fix this.
  • CONSTRUCTION. The supply system is funky, your squad is supposed to carry supplies and help you out, but it's buggy. Try to gather your squad ontop of you using F4 to place a waypoint. Currently, destroying objects doesn't work, so don't misplace anything.
  • Plenty bugs and lag, expect them.
  • VC dupe bug - VC squads may duplicate on loading a save game
  • you will encounter squads that cannot be selected or commanded in any way

Optimizations:
  • 60 FOV
  • 70-80% Units (both teams)
  • LOW Animals

ThoriumGameLabs does not have a website and there are no plans to make one. Do not fall into this VC trap.
The only official communities for Thor are this Discord server https://discord.gg/Mc8sH79nAy and the Steam discussion tab for Vietnam War.

HOW TO GIVE A GOOD BUG REPORT:
  • try to avoid saying "It didn't work." with no explanation. try your best to describe what you think lead up to the bug - what you were trying to do, how it failed, etc , but iyou truly have no idea, then it doesnt matter, still send the report
Advanced Tips
This is a section of tips that are not necessary to learn the game.

  • Wrenches can be found in your base to fix stuff. It is usually in the armory or one of those tents with lots of guns. For VC, it is usually just in your spawn bunker.
  • Changing spawn point - use the base radio "base assignment", or just die, and you'll respawn at the nearest available base.
  • Victory Points give you access to special items, which you can find in your Inventory screen (i).

Go Home, GI!
Viet Cong and NVA gameplay is extremely straightforward as of right now, so I will not be making a whole guide for it. Things to know:
  • GI will bomb you.
  • NVA gets a radioman. Viet Cong squadmates get random weapons.
  • Support is a lot less available than GI, so get used to fighting without it.
  • You can build traps and tunnels with a shovel.
  • You can fast travel. Click any village or base on the map to do so.
  • Print reinforcements using F7 at bases in exchange for rice.
  • How To Get Rice: Click on Civilian NPCs until a "Rice Tax" prompt appears in a menu on the bottom of your screen.
  • You have a bunch of guns in the bunker that you spawn in, some scattered around the base itself. You can find more at the supply caches, which you'll see as little VC bases with a crate icon ontop of the flag on the map.
  • Taking villages is essential to taking a region, or at least it can help a lot if you're low on manpower or supplies. Allied villages give rice to the Communists' bases nearby every day.
  • We own the night. We own the jungle.

I wouldnt know. However I have also noticed that helicopters seem to take tremendously long to respawn... if they do at all. Probably worth a bug report in the discord. You can spawn a cobra with cheats, and there is a cheat guide with more codes besides the ones I provide, there may be a code for tanks.
Johnnyshock00 8 月 20 日 下午 4:37
Great guide! Would you happen to know any details about if vehicles respawn and at what rate? A month ago, I could wait around for a helicopter to respond but in my current game, I've entirely emptied out the same base. I've found great success recently with tank squads and I want to continue down that path but I've cleared my current base of tanks and idk how to get more

Admittedly that section was under-explained because I was running out of space, it's been updated. "Cap" is short for capture, which is what you do to the points. When you head to Victory Point on the map, you have to search around the area to find it - a floating Victory Point icon. You sit underneath it to capture it.
Snowman 8 月 17 日 下午 5:07
What does "cap it" mean for the victory points? I just ran around them on the map fighting and going into the tunnels but I can't find what I'm supposed to do.

Use tons of airstrikes, fire support, air cav, gunship support, literally all the time. If you're going to fight VC and you know where they are, bomb the shit out of them before you attack, but save some support for any sudden ambushes - you have tons anyways. Always bring extra squads to any fight, especially base attacks. Tactically retreat and try to lure the Communists out of the jungle, where they have a significant advantage over US troops. Call reinforcements on the radio, with the M18 smoke, as many as possible, whenever you feel like you're not shitting on the enemy. Be patient, especially in the jungle, and extra especially at night. Don't rush, stay back, stay low, move up slowly and carefully. When it comes to base attacks, you'll know its clear when you start to see tons of your men pushing up. Retreat when your squad reaches around half it's strength. As GI, never engage the enemy if support is unavailable for some reason, like weather, or lack of visibility.

good advice, but do you have any tips for combat?
