There aren't many guides on this game yet, so i decided to create one about secret rooms. I didn't find any specific information about them anywhere, so yeah. Initially i wrote this guide in other language, but decided to write it in english too.

Straight to the point

While you are on explorations, you can find these star shaped things on the ground at any point of the map (see screenshot):

That's where the secret room is located, but how do you access it? To do so, you have to find a red explosive barrel, which are scattered all across the map.

Next, place the barrel on top of the place where the secret room is supposed to be (star shaped thingy) and make it go kaboom.

If you did everything correctly, you will see a bunker like thing that leads underground.

Now you know how to access secret rooms and you can brag about that knowledge to your friends and use that information yourself. I won't say much about contets of secret rooms, because i haven't played this game a lot yet, but generally they have an additional supply chest with augmentations, be it green or red (there may be golden chests in secret rooms, but i haven't seen them myself yet). Also they might have different consumables (medkits, turrets, ammo packs etc.) and the cans that are needed for metaprogression.

After a couple more gaming sessions and watching the comments, the following facts were discovered:
1) There ARE in-game hints related to the location of the secret rooms, same as before, on the floor of the levels you can find drawings with a trapdoor (see screenshot) and an arrow indicating the approximate location of the secret room(special thanks to школотиме for posing as a doctor for scale):

2) The secret room contains:
1. Always - one of the three currently available types of chests (gold, green, red) (to the commentators who wrote about the golden chests, respect and eternal honor)
2. Optionally - consumables and cans of meta-progression, either of those or all at once may appear.
(no pic proof, source - trust me bro)

I found a little 4 legged pet in a secret room that takes up an inventory slot, but can be dropped off, what is it called?

Nevermind about secret rooms not being on grids with corruption in them.

Here's some info from my playtime. Not too certain about it but I'm certain enough to post it here. The maps generate in grids and secret rooms will not spawn in the same grid as any other objectives or chests. Additionally secret rooms don't spawn in grids with corruption in them. In the underground fleshy maps the secret rooms occur in the smaller paths between the larger rooms and not the larger rooms themselves. I feel like my frequency for encountering secret rooms is one every two maps or so

i don't really have an answer to this question, but somebody that read my guide wrote that "Throughout the run you can find up to 2 (without modifications), up to 3 with 1 modifier and up to 4 with full extension modifier.", but i have yet to confirm this information, yuh
