How to Add Custom Engine Sounds in TruckersMP (ETS2 & ATS)
由 Axiata 制作
Because stock sounds just don’t cut it.

If you want louder, deeper, more realistic engine sounds in TruckersMP, you can use custom sound mods but only if you do it right. This guide teaches how to download, install, and get them working without breaking TMP rules or risking a kick.

Read This First
  • These sounds are local only. Only you will hear them.
  • Other players still hear stock sounds even if they have sound mods.
  • Steam Workshop mods won’t work. You need to install manually.

What You’ll Need
  • Euro Truck Simulator 2 or ATS installed
  • TruckersMP launcher set up
  • A base-game truck (no standalone truck mods!)

Section 1: Download the Sound Mods
Before you do anything, you need the mod files, which is common sense, for that you’ll need to download sound bank files (.bank) that contain custom engine sounds. These are not Workshop mods - they must be installed manually.

Recommended download: (These 2 recommendations are safe, i use them and can confirm on the safety side of things)

Download custom engine sound bank files[drive.google.com]
Credits to Xspeedo Gaming for this pack.

More sounds available here:
INSANUX Discord Server[discord.gg]
Inside the server:
  • Go to the Sound Mods category
  • Click on the Engine channel
  • Go through the list and find a one you like and click download the file, not the Steam Workshop link
  • These mods should work for both ETS2 and ATS on TruckersMP

Once you’ve downloaded the files, continue to section 2.

Section 2: Enable Console Commands
To avoid restarting the game every time you switch sounds, you’ll want to enable the in-game console so you can reload sounds on the fly.

Step 1: Open the config file
Navigate to:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\config.cfg

(Or `American Truck Simulator` for ATS)

Open the file with a text editor (Notepad, Notepad++, VS Code, etc.)

Step 2: Edit this line
Search for:
uset g_console "0"

Change it to:
uset g_console "1"

That’s it. The console is now enabled.
Section 3: Installing and Activating the Sound Mod
Once you’ve downloaded the mod, here’s how to install and activate it properly in ETS2 (or ATS). Follow this exactly - TruckersMP doesn’t support Steam Workshop mods, so it’s all manual.

Step 1: Extract the ZIP

Open the downloaded ZIP (like Xspeedo Gaming’s pack) and extract its contents.

Where to extract:
My game is installed here in a dedicated SSD just for this game:
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2\bin\win_x64

If you're not sure where your game is:
  • Right-click ETS2 in your Steam Library
  • Hover over "Manage"
  • Click "Browse local files"
  • Navigate to: bin > win_x64

Inside this folder, check if a folder named plugins exists.

If not:
  • Right-click inside the folder
  • Create a new folder
  • Name it plugins (all lowercase)

Now extract the sound mod files into the plugins folder.
If you're using Xspeedo’s pack, you’ll see a folder called `ts-fmod-plugin`. Inside it, you’ll find lots of engine names.

Example engines to try:
CUMMINS N14, JC14 Lope, C13, or Lepidas V8

Step 2: Set the Engine Sound

Each engine folder contains two files:
  • A file ending in `.bank`
  • A file ending in `.bank.guids`

Choose the engine sound you want (e.g., `c13.bank`), and copy the name of the file but without the `.bank` extension.

Scroll down the folder and find a file named:
selected.bank.txt

Open it with a text editor and paste the name you copied.
Example:
lepidas_v8

Save the file and close it.

Step 3: Optional - Sound Level Config

Just below `selected.bank.txt`, you’ll find a file that controls volume levels. Recommended default setup:

{ "master": 0.5, "engine": 0.5, "exhaust": 0.5, "turbo": 0.5, "interior": 0.75, "navigation": 0.75, "exterior_when_windows_closed": 0.75, "config_version": 2 }

Leave it as-is unless you know what you’re doing. This setup gives you balanced volume and keeps the interior/exterior realistic.

Step 4: EQ Settings (Optional but Recommended)
I use the Logitech G Hub EQ and this config specifically for ETS2:

It’s bass-heavy, with a realistic tone that simulates cabin reverb and open window driving. Works great with lopey engines and deep V8s.

Once all this is done, your engine mod is ready. Now go back in-game and test it.

Tip: You can try different engine sounds by changing the value in `selected.bank.txt` without restarting the game we’ll cover that next.
Section 4: Launching the Game and Swapping Sounds
Now that your mod is set up, it’s time to launch the game via TruckersMP and make sure everything works properly.

Step 1: Launch TruckersMP

Open the TruckersMP launcher and start ETS2 (or ATS).
Optional: In ETS2’s Audio Settings, you can tweak levels to your liking — I personally set most of them to max.

Step 2: Goto a Quiet Area

Pick a quiet spot away from traffic (like a rest area or isolated garage) so you can clearly hear the engine.

Step 3: Start the Engine and Test

If everything’s set up right, the stock engine sound will be overridden by the modded one you selected earlier. If you hear your custom sound, congrats it’s working.

Switching Sounds Without Restarting

The real trick is being able to test different engine sounds without quitting the game.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the `selected.bank.txt` file again (don’t close the game).
  2. Type in a new engine sound name (from the mod list you installed).
  3. Save the file.
  4. Tab back into ETS2/ATS.
  5. Open the console with the `~` key (below ESC).
  6. Type:
    sdk reload
  7. Press Enter.

The sound engine will reload, and you’ll immediately hear the new engine sound. Repeat the process to test other ones.

Example:
I’m currently using the lepidas_v8 mod from the INSANUX Discord. It sounds amazing with rattles and open-pipe vibes — but the engine brake is kind of weak.

So instead, I also use cummins_n14 when I want that heavy Jake Brake sound. It hits hard and sounds real.
Troubleshooting & Recommended Setups
No sound after installing?
- Double-check the files are inside:
`...\Euro Truck Simulator 2\bin\win_x64\plugins`
- Make sure the folder is named plugins (all lowercase).
- If nothing plays, check spelling in `selected.bank.txt`.

Game crashes when launching TMP?
- Remove the last mod you added, one may be outdated.
- Always use the latest pack from Xspeedo or INSANUX Discord.
- If TMP still fails, delete the entire `plugins` folder and reinstall fresh.

Best engine sounds by vibe:
- Deep V8 Immersion: lepidas_v8 or JC14 Lope
- Classic American Jake Brake: cummins_n14
- Smooth Inline-6 Feel: C13 or C15 packs

Immersion EQ Setup
For best results, tune your EQ with these values (Logitech G Hub / external EQ):
- Bass: +4
- Mid: 0
- Treble: +2
This simulates cabin acoustics, window rattles, and turbo hiss without overpowering navigation sounds.

Extra Tip:
Open-pipe and lopey engines sound way better with windows down in-game. Increase “interior vs. exterior” balance in the sound config for more realism.
