🧭 YaG-10 Truck – Overview and History
The YaG-10 was a Soviet heavy 6×4 truck produced in the 1930s by the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant (YAZ). It was one of the first Soviet vehicles with a three-axle configuration and was designed for transporting heavy cargo, towing artillery, and serving as a base for specialized military systems. With its robust chassis and high load capacity, the YaG-10 played a key role in the Soviet Union’s early mechanized logistics and support operations.

🛠️ Design and Development
The YaG-10 was based on the earlier Ya-5 truck but extended to three axles for increased load-bearing ability. It featured a 6×4 drivetrain, where both rear axles were powered. Its frame and suspension were strengthened to support military loads, including artillery towing and even tank transportation. It used a powerful 120 hp Hercules-YXC petrol engine and a 4-speed manual transmission with a two-speed transfer case.

Though it had no all-wheel drive, the truck’s dual rear axle configuration offered relatively good off-road capability for the time. The cabin was simple and utilitarian, typically with a two-man crew (driver and passenger).

⚔️ Combat Use
While not a front-line combat vehicle, the YaG-10 was actively used by the Soviet military in the 1930s and early 1940s:

Artillery tractor – towing heavy guns and equipment.

Transport – carrying troops, ammunition, and supplies.

Special platforms – mounted with AA guns or used to transport light tanks like the BT-5 or T-26.

Early World War II – used in the initial stages of the German invasion, especially in support and logistics units.

Due to its limited off-road mobility and outdated design, the YaG-10 was gradually replaced in the 1940s by more advanced 6×6 military trucks.

🔧 Notable Features
One of the first Soviet 6-wheeled heavy trucks with powered rear axles.

Strong load capacity (up to 8 tons).

Used as a base for experimental AA systems and tank transport.

Dual rear drive axles gave it better load distribution and traction on rough terrain.

Large size and strong chassis made it suitable for military adaptation.
