🧭 KV-2 Heavy Tank – Overview and History
The KV-2 was a Soviet heavy assault tank developed in the late 1930s, based on the KV-1 chassis but mounting a much larger turret and artillery piece. Created to destroy fortified positions, it was introduced in 1940 and became one of the most distinctive tanks of WWII due to its towering silhouette and powerful gun.

🛠️ Design and Features
The KV-2 was built on the KV-1 hull but fitted with a massive, box-shaped turret housing a 152 mm howitzer.

It was designed to support infantry and break through bunkers and fortified lines — not for tank-on-tank duels or rapid maneuvers.

Its huge weight and high profile made it slow, mechanically unreliable, and easy to spot, but its armor and firepower were formidable in early engagements.

⚔️ Combat Use
The KV-2 saw limited but intense combat:

Winter War (1939–1940) – field tests and prototype deployment

Initial phase of Operation Barbarossa (1941) – used against German forces, where it proved extremely resistant to early German anti-tank weapons

Defense of Leningrad and other early battles – often used as stationary bunkers due to mobility issues

Production was limited (~330 units), and it was phased out as it became clear that more mobile tanks were needed.
