How to:
- Go to your Steam Client
- Click on ''Add a Game'' on the bottom left
- Click any program you have on your computer that doesn't use many resources and can run in the background (in my case I went for: windows media player)
- Locate the file location where the exe. is installed.
You can do this by adding it as a game, then right click on the program in your Steam library and browse local files
- Add a text file named ''steam_appid'', if it doesn't allow you to make a text file into the folder, make it on the desktop and drag it into the folder.
- Open the text file, type and save: 753
- Now you can rename the program inside your Steam library and run it, it will open the program as usual but will show in recently played at the bottom a steam program with time.
If you go to Games, recently played it will also show up here for you.

Amazing idea.. thank you.

Considering STALKER GAMMA or Anomaly or any modpack for its sake, is based of STALKER Call of Prypiat, I will instead make the hours count on that one!!! (like I modded the base game with GAMMA sort of)

I'm glad it worked for you, but you could make it that when you launch your modded game it counts that playtime for base stalker game
Here is a guide I made for that

Amazing guide, thank you, it works.

I wanted to count the hours of my STALKER standalone mods with this, I will make it a conglomerate of hours accumulated I can track visually through this.

It's unfortunate however that you see the "Steam" icon, I wish it could be customized somehow, but I know that's not possible.
