Game & Network Performance

Crashes and bugs
Rematch developers highly recommend deleting the runtime folder (it is on their official website) to avoid crashes and other bugs

  • To find that folder, press Windows + R
  • Type %appdata% and hit enter and this will open:

  • Click on AppData and open the Local folder

  • Find a folder named Runtime and delete it

It is usually safe to delete that folder. If another app on your system uses it too, the folder will automatically be created again when you open that app. I am not sure whether the devs meant we should delete the folder once or every time we play the game.

I deleted it but did not notice any upgrade on game's performance yet. I have not had too many crashes ever so I cannot say if it is actually effective to preventing them.

>> Warning: deleting the folder will reset your in-game settings.

Network performance

I play on South America servers and I tested ExitLag for Rematch. This is what happened:

My ping increased by 3-5 average, yes increased. BUT I did notice a significant stability when I use it.

There is a 3 day trial of ExitLag[www.exitlag.com] for new users if you wish to test it out.

Skip Startup Movies
Useful to speed things up when your game crash and you need to go back to a ranked match

Open Rematch's folder by right clicking it on Steam and selecting "Properties". Then, on "Installed Files", click "Browse" and the folder will open.

Then open the folders: Runtime > Content > Movies and rename or delete the following files:

As you can see, I just added a .NONE to their names. It is safe to either rename or delete them.

General settings

Field of view
Set this to 90 as it will give you a wider view of the field, allowing you to see your teammates and opponents better.

Camera shake
Only makes it harder to see the ball, so disabling it is the best thing to do.

Minimap mode
Fixed mode, I believe, makes it easier to quickly identify where you and teammates are positioned, where you are looking at and where your opponents are.

Minimap size
Set as 100 will show more of the field, allowing you to spot incoming opponents from further distances. This will not negatively affect your view of the field.

Network performance
Is a fairly big box that shows your ping, server region and a lot of nerd stuff. Won't negatively affect your view of the field. I have it enabled for the sake of knowing my ping.

Video settings

Gamma
You should definitely try reducing the gamma, as lower values will make the ball easier to be spotted. Besides, your eyes will thank you for that.

Motion blur
Disabling it will make the ball easier to see.

Anti-aliasing
FXAA - too blurry, great performance
TAA - sharp edges and a bit blurry, great performance
TSR - great graphics at the cost of performance
DLSS - Quality: too blurry; DLAA: great balance between graphics and performance; Ultra Perf.: extremely blurry.

If your graphics card is DLSS-capable, DLAA will probably be the best option.

‎ ‎
Ghosting
If you see ghosts following the ball and players when they are far from you, it is probably your monitor and not a game setting.

Press the menu button on your monitor and navigate to image settings, look for overdrive and try setting it to medium. Avoid having it disabled or set to the maximum value.

If you still see ghosting after doing that, try limiting the FPS to your monitor's refresh rate and test vertical sync on.

Audio settings

Call outs and communications
If you are tired of the "good job" when you miss that save, you can reduce communications volume.

It might be tempting setting ball calls volume to 0 because of the spammers, but it might be better just to set it around 20, as using the sound to identify where the caller is will be faster than looking on the minimap when you are passing the ball.

Key mapping for K&M players
First, you need to set presets to custom in the controls tab.

Keyboard & Mouse players
I suggest the following changes:

  • Dribbling instance - to mouse4 or 5 (the side buttons on your mice)
  • Lob pushball - to mouse4 or 5
We use these everytime, so the closer the keys are the better.

  • Lob light tap - to Left ALT
I find it easier to quickly locate ALT than C, and the change of pressing a wrong key is reduced.

  • Goalkeeper pushball and (in defensive stance) dash - to C
Just to wipe out the use of V.
