"SILENCE" Status effect explained.
由 tdogredman 制作
I kept getting confused by "SILENCE". But it's actually really simple and I'm just an idiot. Odds are you are an idiot too, so learn from my stupidity.

How am I "Silenced"?
"Silence" is a status effect that is triggered by

EQUIPMENT ON A SPECIFIC UNIT

or a living "Deafening Herald" on the same floor as your units.

You can avoid units being silenced by killing the Herald or removing the equipment that is silencing your unit by replacing it with another piece of equipment.

What is "SILENCE"?
Silence is explained in-game as a status effect that "Disables Triggers and Abilities", and that is 100% correct.

But what is a "TRIGGER" or "ABILITY"?

It's simple.

A TRIGGER is any effect, equipment, etc, that has the word "Trigger" in it.

As you can see here, Fenix has a passive ability called "Conjure" that
TRIGGERS
whenever his active ability is used.

If Fenix were silenced, this Conjure would not happen.

AN ABILITY

is anything marked with a "thunderbolt" and has a cooldown, that you press under a character, also known as their active ability.

therefore, if Fenix were silenced, he couldn't use his Fenix fire.

(this means he wouldnt be able to use his active OR conjure, from the previous image)
How do I silence enemies?
This can be done with a card or a room, and any other items you find that mention "muting" or "silencing" enemies.

This is incredibly useful against some enemies, such as the "Enthralled Ardent", that increases the damage of enemies whenever you play a spell.

It doesn't mention it here, but it would if you were fighting them and hovered over them with your mouse.
"INCANT" is a status that TRIGGERS whenever you play a spell on the same floor as this enemy.

So if you SILENCE or MUTE this enemy, their trigger is disabled.
Takeaways.
With this knowledge, SILENCE is scary, but not too bad.

If you have a multistrike unit, or a sweep unit, etc, they don't lose these abilities when silenced. If you have a unit with a lot of stacks of a status effect like valor, they dont lose this when silenced.

Like this guide if I helped you out!

EDIT: The "Stoic Platemail" armor can not be equipped on enemies. It's supposed to be a tradeoff-- you lose a unit's trigger in exchange for +30 HP and 60 Armor.

It also disables on-death abilities which includes the hoarder so be carefull! (A hoarder inside a zone of silence will not even run away if it gets the chance, just sits there till it's inevitable demise at either your hands or the boss!)

regarding combining stoic platemail with one of the penance equipments from the banished clan, the penance equips work off of the shift trigger. so the only benefit would be perma-silencing the enemy you equip it on at the cost of both energy and increasing their effective HP by 90.

The armor is +90 hp for 1 mana. That's a ton of survivability even ignoring synergies with various cards. Many unit bodies in the game don't care about being silenced, and most effects you can add to units (e.g. rage, thorns, conduit) aren't triggers (like this guide says!)

@joerpg84 actually, you can't equip that on the boss. you can only equip it on your own units. its for your units that dont have triggers or units you want to keep alive despite losing their triggers. you can combine it with other pieces of equipment, so maybe you coud combine it with that one that harms units when they move, i'm not sure.

So with the armour, you would equip that on a boss to silence it? Which outweighs the minor HP benefit and armour? I was trying to get my head around that moreso than silencing the room. That confused me lol.

Thanks for the explanation. I was a little lost on the "Triggers and Abilities" part, but I understand now.
