LSA LS-22 Cricket Light Shuttle

When the Lindberg Space Alliance made the LS-22 a reality, it was initially seen as obsolete on arrival. Paper thin armor, no repair projectors, low TWR, and restriction to a vacuum made the major powers pass on buying the Cricket without a second thought. However, this was never the intended market for the Cricket. The LSA had mass produced thousands of them, correctly predicting that the shuttle would perfectly meet the needs of small groups on the moon and in the asteroid fields around the various planets of the system.

Almost overnight the Cricket had become the go-to craft for low budget operations away from the major powers, with its weaknesses becoming yet more advantages for its intended market; the thin armor allowed minimal effort repairs as almost all components were one layer deep, the lack of repair projectors drove down the cost and allowed for easy modification of the craft, and the low TWR made it easier to navigate through the tight corridors of small stations and bases.

Since it was released, the Cricket has become by far the most used ship in the lunar sphere of influence each day when counting by number of ships, and modified into a number of roles: cargo hauler, reconnaissance platform, and even a makeshift troop transport and gunship for pirate operations. The decent redundancy and incredible longevity of the platform have made it so that many groups opt to not repair damaged Crickets, wearing the dents and bullet holes on their ships as badges of honor for a long service life.

Despite the LSA attempting to market a replacement for the Cricket in recent years, it has had very little success as the primary market refuses to switch away from the reliable Cricket.


Featuring a default configuration optimized for carrying small numbers of passengers across short distances, the Cricket is optimized for cheap flight in-vacuum with a plethora of ion thrusters powered by an extensive battery bank. The interior can be switched out to serve in a number of different roles with relative ease, the large internal volume allowing for the installation of a cargo hold if so desired. An antenna and beacon allow for easy communication and tracking at all times, and a number of exterior lights keep the Cricket visible to those in the dark nearby.

While the TWR may be low, it is still more than enough to lift off from the moon and hop over it to reach its destination, and as a civilian vessel the Cricket lacks the need for a significant bank of thrusters for rapid acceleration. The pressurized interior cabin lacks an airlock and as such the doors should not be opened mid-flight, lest the cabin depressurize. Additionally, a number of customizable LCDs in the cabin are provided, by default displaying velocity and time.
