Run FF Mono, in the MelonLoader window you will see if the mod was loaded and where you can find the cfg file (if you want to change something), then restart the game and enjoy child's work ;)
In the Middle Ages, children really did work from a very young age, and the church (Canon Law) even allowed boys to marry at 14 and girls between 12-13.
Personally, I do think 8 is a little young to become a labourer, but I agree that the age in game is too high (given that these are the middle ages, people!). Labour age should probably be something more like 12 (to be historically accurate).
