Methods

There are several ways to become a vampire in Oblivion Remastered. Each method has its own peculiarities and consequences, so it's important to be aware of them before making a decision.

1. Infection in Combat with a Vampire:
When fighting a vampire, there is a chance to contract Porphyric Hemophilia (vampirism). You can only get infected through close combat, when you are in direct contact with the vampire. After infection, you have 72 hours (three in-game days) to heal. During this time, you can visit healers or use special potions. If no actions are taken within this period, after the next sleep, your character will transform into a vampire.

2. Accepting the Dark Gift from the Dark Brotherhood:
After completing all tasks for Vincent Valtieri, a member of the Dark Brotherhood, he will offer you the "Dark Gift" — to become a vampire. If you agree, all you need to do is sleep, and upon waking, your character will find signs of vampirism. After infection, you have 72 hours (three in-game days) to heal.

The consequences

Vampirism in Oblivion Remastered brings both strong advantages and significant weaknesses, as well as a set of unique abilities that can greatly affect gameplay. Vampires experience changes in their characteristics depending on the stage of vampirism, but also face challenges such as vulnerability to the sun.

Stages of Vampirism:
There are 4 stages of vampirism, each impacting the character’s abilities and imposing certain drawbacks. For example, two of them are the first and the fourth

First stage: Minor increases to attributes and skills, with no major negative effects, except vulnerability to fire.

Fourth stage: Maximum increases to stats and severe negative effects like vulnerability to fire and sunburn, along with deteriorating relationships with NPCs.

How to Determine the Stage of Vampirism:
The stage of vampirism is determined by the “Vampirism” effect in the active effects menu. These values can be 25, 50, 75, or 100 depending on the stage.

Vampire Benefits:
1. Attributes and Skills:

+5/+10/+15/+20 to attributes: Strength, Speed, Willpower.

+5/+10/+15/+20 to skills: Acrobatics, Athletics, Destruction, Illusion, Mysticism, Sneak, Hand-to-hand combat.

2. Resistance and Protection:

100% disease resistance.

100% paralysis resistance.

+5/+10/+15/+20 resistance to simple weapon attacks.

Vampire Weaknesses:
1. Fire Vulnerability:

20%/30%/40%/50% fire vulnerability depending on the stage of vampirism.

2. Sunburn:

Health damage from the sun, ranging from 0 to 8 damage per second depending on the stage.

Cloudy and overcast weather, as well as being in water or underwater, reduces this effect.

Inability to fast travel, wait, or sleep when sunburn damage is active.

Risk of death from sunburn when waiting or sleeping on open sunlit locations.

3. Social Consequences:

At the fourth stage of vampirism, NPCs start to react negatively toward the player and will refuse to offer services.

Vampire Special Abilities:
1. Hunter's Eye:

A spell combining Night Eye and Life Detection. It lasts for 30 seconds and costs very little magic, making it easy to use frequently.

2. Vampire Seduction:

After 2 days as a vampire, the character can charm any NPC for 20 seconds once a day.

3. Realm of Terror:

After 3 days as a vampire, the character can cast Silence on an enemy, which is useful against mages, and simultaneously demoralize them (great for battles). This ability can be used once a day.

4. Embrace of Shadows:

After 4 days as a vampire, the character can cast a spell combining Invisibility and Night Eye on themselves once a day.

How to Avoid Becoming a Vampire in Oblivion Remastered?

If your character has contracted vampirism, you have 72 hours (three in-game days) to prevent the transformation. It’s important not to sleep during this time, as it gives the infection a chance to progress. Here are several ways to prevent vampirism:

Ways to Avoid Vampirism:

1. Use a Cure Disease Potion or Scroll:

2. Eat an ingredient with Cure Disease effect:

⚗️ Clannfear Claws

⚗️ Mandrake Root

⚗️ Root Pulp

⚗️ Shepherd's Pie

3. Cast a Cure Disease Spell:

4. Receive a Blessing at a Temple or Wayshrine:

Feeding as a Vampire

If you have already become a vampire, you will need to feed to prevent further negative effects. You can only drink blood from sleeping characters. To do so:

1. Hover the cursor over a sleeping character — a bat icon will appear.

2. Press the action button.

3. A choice will appear: "Drink Blood" or "Talk." Select "Drink Blood."

If you are in Sneak Mode, instead of "Talk," you will see "Pickpocket." This is important because drinking blood in front of witnesses will result in a 40 gold penalty.

Note: Victims are not harmed, and you cannot infect them. They will not wake up during the bite, and the process is considered an act of violence, which leads to the penalty.

If you're already a vampire, how can you give it up?
