Fix Slowdown/Freezing after the March 2025 Update

1. Click on the Manage wheel for Control Ultimate Edition.

Step 2

2. Click on Properties.

Step 3

3. Under Launch Options, type "-dx11" (without the quotation marks)

Conclusion

That's it. Your game should hopefully no longer slowdown/freeze anymore on the Steam Deck.

Holy cats thank you! I was on the Take Control quest and it kept crashing about halfway through at the message board, after you have to do all the annoying minutiae. Let me tell you - that’s not a fun quest to have to restart over and over and over and over. I was about to lose my f-ing mind.

@Piper Snipes! - DX12 makes the game virtually unplayable in certain sections of the game on the steam deck due to the extreme slowdown.

using dx11 disables HDR

Thank you, this really helped. I was wondering why VRAM usage was so high and performance was poor. Apparently they sneakily switched it to DX12 with the update

I only had this problem when I went back to executive to do Bureau Alerts but this did fix it!
