This is not actually correct. The ability to instantly kill Guardians if your stats reach a threshold is unlocked by default (assuming you've killed the Guardian in question before). This option merely automatically presses those buttons whenever you DR or Reincarnate. Considering the DR button already has a tooltip reminding you how many keys you have, I'm going to say that "saving you from clicking at *most* five buttons an hour" is not actually all that useful.
By my reading of the in-game description shown when you hover on the check-box to enable using the consumable in the Quest page, it prevents having to click the Recover button for the full duration of the quest in which it is consumed.
I've only played for a couple of days so far, and not seen a quest that takes >10 hours (and thus could not be completed before the next quest refresh without at least manually clicking Recover) but should such quests exist then it becomes somewhat more useful.
