Intro
‎ ‎ ‎ Welcome to my comprehensive guide to absolutely everything in Knuckle Sandwich! I had a blast researching all the inner workings of this game. This is my love letter to the game and all of its intricacies. I hope you're able to get some use out of it!
‎ ‎ ‎ You'll sometimes see this ⏱️ emoji next to titles. This indicates that the achievement / secret can only be unlocked during certain parts of the story. If you don't see it, you'll be able to complete it during the postgame.

Challenge Mode - Phase 1
CHALLENGE CONQUERED ⏱️
Beat the game in Challenge Mode.
Challenge Mode is a secret mode that can be enabled by Tossing the Pocket Knife that Boss gives you in Chapter 1 before fighting the Mystery Man. As the name suggests, Challenge Mode makes the game significantly more difficult. This guide will focus on advice and secrets that make challenge mode easier.

Prologue, Chapter 1, & Chapter 2
Focuses on everything leading up to the Vance boss fight in Chapter 2, which is considered the hardest fight in the game without a guide.

Prologue
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Start a new game and change your settings. When Busdriver asks you to set your settings, do the following: Set Damage Reduction to 100%. Set Skip Option to On. Set Block Visual to On. You can do this from the title screen if you forget. Damage Reduction and Skip Option will be automatically disabled at the start of Chapter 2, but you can use them to get through the Prologue and Chapter 1 effortlessly without loosing HP or EP.
‎ ‎ ‎ Grab the Cola from the Job Center. ‎When you arrive at the Job Center, go down to the gap in the fence that normally leads to Everyday Goblin. The goblin won't be there, but there will be a hidden Cola you can grab. This will be important in Chapter 2.
‎ ‎ ‎ Beat every minigame at the Job Center. ‎You need to make sure that you succeed at both the Dancer minigame and the Space Cleaner minigame. This will allow you to get the Big Scrib, one of the best weapons in the game, in Chapter 4.

Chapter 1
‎ ‎ ‎ Grab the Chocolate Bar and First Aid Kit from West City. There is a hidden Chocolate Bar across the street from Gorilla Burger before you go inside. Make sure to grab this at the start of Chapter 1, you won't be able to grab it in Chapter 2. The First Aid Kit is on top of the fridge in the kitchen and can be grabbed in Chapter 1 or Chapter 2.
‎ ‎ ‎ Toss the Pocket Knife that Boss gives you before fighting the Mystery Man. You need to do this to start Challenge Mode. You can use the Skip option to completely bypass the Mystery Man fight. Once the fight is over, most Gameplay Settings will be locked. The Block Visual will still be On, but you won't be able to Skip any more fights.

Chapter 2
‎ ‎ ‎ Grab the Broom from West City. Make sure to pick up and equip the Broom from the room where Boss sleeps BEFORE you take out the garbage. Chapter 2 will be significantly harder without the Broom.
‎ ‎ ‎ Don't take damage in the first area of Glitchy West City while defeating all the enemies. You don't have access to any vending machines at this point so conserving your HP and EP is extremely important. Save at the washing machine and fight 1 enemy at a time. If you defeat them without taking damage, save again. If not, open the menu and select Settings then Return to Title Screen. Repeat this until every enemy has been defeated.
‎ ‎ ‎ Grab the Cola and Fruit from Glitchy West City. Pick up the Fruit near the top of the area, and grab the Cola from inside the dome house. Before you use the teleporter, use the Red Key and save one last time at the washing machine.
‎ ‎ ‎ Choose Sulk as your skill at level 7. Sulk will lower your opponent's ATK while Curl Up will raise your DEF. Both are very similar skills, but your choice will affect what skills you can get at level 16. Sulk will allow you to get Reset Button. Curl Up will allow you to get Refresh. Reset Button will reset your team's stat changes. Refresh will clear your team's status conditions. Not only are negative stat changes more impact than most statuses, the game constantly gives you access to status curing item. This makes Sulk and Reset Button the best abilities for you.
‎ ‎ ‎ Defeat all the enemies in the third area of Glitchy West City. There's 2 Apple Bats and 1 Oozer in this area. You can use ALL of your items EXCEPT Packed Lunch. At this point you should have 2 Colas, 1 First Aid Kit, 1 Chocolate Bar, and at least 1 Fruit. Use whatever you need besides the Packed Lunch to make it through these 3 fights. The skill Beat Up doesn't do more damage than a basic attack, so don't use Beat Up unless there's 2 or more enemies alive.
‎ ‎ ‎ Defeat all the enemies in the 5th area of Glitchy West City. You finally have access to a vending machine and a washing machine! Use them to heal and save between every fight as you clear the area. Save your Summon ability for Vance.
‎ ‎ ‎ Grab the Camp Knife from Glitchy West City. You won't need it for the Vance fight, but it'll be useful in Chapter 3.

Vance
‎ ‎ ‎ Defend, then Sulk / Curl Up, then Attack. Your objective in this fight is to outlast Vance. You should be Defending every turn if you don't have another move to use. Waiting until turn 2 to Sulk / Curl Up lets it last a turn longer, which makes it line up better with the rest of the fight. You MUST Attack on turn 3 to trigger a tutorial. If you never attack, the fight won't progress.
‎ ‎ ‎ Defend until Vance uses a Fussy Snack. Vance will use the move Muscle Showdown during this fight. When this microgame shows up, ALWAYS press and hold the left button instead of trying to attack. This will make you defend the entire time. Trying to fight in Muscle Showdown leaves you open to getting combo'd by Vance, which can sometimes be enough to defeat you from full HP. By simply defending the whole time, you're guaranteed to survive with barely any damage taken.
‎ ‎ ‎ Use Sulk / Curl Up, then consume the Packed Lunch / Cola. After this, Vance will start using the move Big Punch. Big Punch deals extremely high damage for this point in the game, and can be undodgeable if you get unluckly. If you Defend while at full HP, you'll be able to survive 1 of these attacks. Vance normally only uses 1 Big Punch but it's possible for him to use it twice. Do your best to dodge it and don't stop Defending.
‎ ‎ ‎ Defend until Vance's defense drops, then Summon a goblin. This should be enough damage to defeat him, even if he's at full HP.
Challenge Mode - Phase 2
Chapter 3 & Chapter 4
This section will tackle the mid-game leading up to the Bruce boss fight in Chapter 4, the last challenging fight in the game.

Chapter 3
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and equip the Hasty Charm from the cave in Gorilla Burger. The charm is located in the left wall of the skinny tunnel leading into the cave. There is an arrow-shaped rock on the ground pointing towards it. You should always have a charm equipped to yourself whenever possible.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Pick Thea as your co-worker and talk to her during the ghost hunt. This will increase your bond with Thea to 11, 21 after using Friendship Dimension. This allows Friendship Dimension to heal a huge amount of health for only 4 EP. You can keep Friendship Dimension on Thea or move it to yourself.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and use the Health Orb from the coolroom. There is a hidden item in the center of the first ice puzzle. It's located on a 1x2 patch of snow near the center of the room.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and use the Effort Orb from the coolroom. There is a hidden item in the same room as the Torch. It's in the middle of the bottom hallway next to some barrels.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Empty your Other Pocket before the Sweet Nothing fight. You won't get a chance to access a computer before Thea leaves your party. Having your Other pocket empty guarantees that you have the space to remove all of her items before she leaves.

Chapter 4
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎DON'T buy the Rock Charm from the Member Only Store. This item costs 100 fortune rocks. Starting in Chapter 5, you will have a way to make infinite money. Don't waste your fortune rocks on this. Buy items that will actually help you get through the chapter.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and equip the Buff Charm from behind the buildings in North City. This should be your main accessory going forward. Gaining more strength mean wining fights in fewer turns, requiring less dodges.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and equip the Big Scrib from the dumpster at the Job Center. This is one of the best items in the game in terms of attack and defense. It'll be extremely useful going through Chapter 4.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Equip the Hasty Charm onto Thea. More stats are always better. Try to always have charms equipped if you're able to win fights with them.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Use the vending machine in West City to heal during the Apricot Resort maze segment. It's a very long trek back to Gorilla Burger, but it allows you to heal for free while in the maze.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab and use the Health Orb from the Apricot Resort maze. The orb is hidden behind a tree that's directly next to a lamp post.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Grab the Rubber Gloves from Apricot Resort. The're located in the dome house in the top right corner of the maze. They'll be useful during the Bruce boss fight.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Use Bath Bombs on Oozers. Bath Bombs can be found in most washing machines with foam coming out of them. These Bath Bombs will instantly kill all Oozers you encounter. Oozers will sometimes show up in battles with Foamy Wonders.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Save you Summon goblin for Bruce. Don't use during the Brightside boss fight. The damage from the Summon will significantly decrease the number of turns you'll need to last against Bruce.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Spam defensive moves against Brightside. Just like with Vance, you only need to outlast Brightside in his first encounter. Defend and heal until he runs away.

Bruse
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Equip the Big Scrib onto yourself and the Rubber Gloves onto Echo. The best way to deal damage in this fight (besides your Summon ability) is to successfully dodge Bruse's attacks. Play defensively and heal often using as many healing items as you have.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Don't worry about preserving items. You will have the opportunity to make infinite fortune rocks after Chapter 4. Just use whatever you need to make it through the fight.
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎You'll have a chance to deposit your items after the fight. You won't have to worry about keeping your Other Pocket empty as you have the chance to access a computer after the fight ends.
Challenge Mode - Phase 3
Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Epilogue
Completely break all game balance with the power of cod and potatoes.

Chapter 5
‎ ‎ ‎ Give Echo the Cruise Ticket before she leaves the party, or step onto the S. S. Andy to get it out of your inventory. This next section is going to involve a lot of inventory management, so having access to all of your inventory slots is ideal.
‎ ‎ ‎ Fish for fortune rocks. The East City Market is an event that appears in East City while your system's internal clock is set to any time between 6:00AM and 10:59AM on a Sunday. You can Buy Fish Bait from Salt. Take that fish bait to the left side of town and talk Fish'n into letting you borrow his fishing pole. You can take the fish you earn and sell them to Salt. Old Cans, Old Boots, and Swordfish Pins can be sold at the Puppy Store. Repeat to earn as many fortune rocks as you want. You can grab the Cool Rock from Not-So-Big Dig in South City and sell it to get a quick 300 fortune rocks. You can also grab the Rare Gordon from behind the tree with grass at the Job Center for another 100 fortune rocks. Each secret Gem can also be sold for 100 more fortune rocks.
‎ ‎ ‎ Buy and use as many Minimum Chips as you can. Minimum Chips can be bought from Fish & Chips Takeaway in East City. The description on the Minimum Chips, Mean Chips, and Maximum Chips indicates that they're just normal healing items, but they have a hidden effects. When used outside of battle, chips will permanently increase your maximum HP by 5. Minimum Chips is preferred since they're the cheapest. It's very easy to get hundreds or even thousands of HP by using massive amounts of Minimum Chips. Having this much HP trivializes almost everything beyond this point.
‎ ‎ ‎ Give the Leotard to Curd and Arcade Token to Slumberjack for more CD-ROMs. Curd is in East City inside the building labelled "Dance". Slumberjack is in South City inside the Arcade. This will earn you CD-ROM 06 and 08. CD-ROM-08 in particular does massive damage to both groups and single targets.
‎ ‎ ‎ Buy 1 Fussy Snack, 1 Puffy Snack, and 2 Fishing Bait. Put all 4 of these items into storage before you go onto the S. S. Andy. This will be important for the Jeane and Claudia boss fight later in the chapter.
‎ ‎ ‎ DO NOT WASTE DOLUS'S EGG. The Rotten Guest boss fight can be defeated instantly with the egg that Dolus starts with. While the fight isn't technically impossible, it is the hardest fight in the game by far. The egg does almost no damage against every other enemy so there's no reason why you should use it outside of this fight.

Jeane and Claudia
‎ ‎ ‎ Consume a Fussy Snack and Puffy Snack. This will max out your rating score. If you successfully dodge both Jeane's and Claudia's attacks, you can beat them on the first turn.
‎ ‎ ‎ Use a Fishing Bait and Defend every turn until you win. This will top off your rating score every turn until you're able to successfully dodge both Jeane's and Claudia's attacks. Make sure to alternate who uses Fishing Bait every turn to avoid loosing rating for being repetitive.

Remaining Bosses
‎ ‎ ‎ You can retry the games that play out after the Nout, Soba, and Final Boss fights. Focus on constantly clearing as many tiles as you can in Nout's game. Soba's game is relatively easy. For Final Boss's game, focus on taking as few hits as possible early on so that you can tank some damage later in the fight.
‎ ‎ ‎ Be prepared before defeating Soba. The game will ask you to save afterwards, then immediately force you into a fight with the Safety Robot. You'll also loose access to all of the items your friends were holding. This is not a hard fight, but it can be devastating if you have no HP or healing items.
Secrets - Gems
Studio Key
Gems are a concentration of cursed energy and act as the main secret collectable of the game. There are 5 Gems in total which can be used to unlock a secret door. To reach the secret door, you'll need to access the Studio. Go to the elevator at the end of the teleporter maze after getting the Green Card Key. Go to floor F3 to get the Studio Key. Then, take that key to East City and enter the secret passage near the East City sign. A door with 5 slots will appear after you've entered the Studio.

Yellow Gem ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
After Chapter 2, walk into the shelf in the room where Boss sleeps from the left side. The capsule with the gem will appear after you touch the trash can.

Blue Gem ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
Enter the room with the neon sign at the end of the coolroom while your system's internal clock is set to any time between 12:00AM and 12:59AM. Walk through the upper right wall and head right. Go upwards at the first object. Go right at the second object. Touch the third object. Find the capsule with the gem before using the warp.

Red Gem ⏱️
This gem can only be obtained before putting out the fire on floor F7 of the Apricot Resort building. Avoid picking up the Fire Extinguisher or it will automatically put out the fire when you approach it. Wedge yourself as far right as possible without being pushed away. The flames can only bring you down to 1 HP so don't worry about your health. Hold down and the flames will start to push you upwards against the wall near echo. Hold Left to get push to the right behind the stairs. Find the capsule with the gem before using the warp.

Green Gem ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
Enter the stairwell leading to the pool on the S. S. Andy while your system's internal clock is set to any time between 12:00AM and 12:59AM. The shell on the wall will be off-center. Walk upward through the wall. Find the capsule with the gem before touching the trash can.

Pink Gem ⏱️
In Chapter 8 when using the glitchy elevator in West City, select the 3rd option from the top. The capsule with the gem will be laying out in the open.
Secrets - Miscellaneous
Friendly Oozer ⏱️
A friendly Oozer appears inside a dome house in Chapter 2 during the Glitchy West City sequence. If you talk to this Oozer, they will show up on the Lost Beach later in the game.

Leotard Fanatic
Beating the Dancer minigame rewards you with the Leotard. You can also find the Leotard in the dumpster outside the Job Center if you failed the Dancer minigame. Go to the Dance building in East City and talk to Curd while the Leotard is in your inventory. You'll be able to exchange it for CD-ROM.06.

Customer Service
Talk to Brondle on the first floor of the East City Shopping Centre. Keep selecting the first dialogue option. She'll start smiling afterwards.

NPC Plushie ⏱️
There is a small NPC in South City that you can't interact with. If you take a screenshot of this NPC (using the F9 key) an NPC plushie will appear in your house. This plushie does not count towards the WHERE THE HEART IS achievement.

True Puppy Store
Occasionally you'll see a pug when walking around outside in Bright City. Normally, this pug will run away if you go near them. Buy a Dog Biscuit from the East City Market by having your system's internal clock set to any time between 6:00AM and 10:59AM on Sunday. Walk up to pug with the Dog Biscuit in your inventory. After a short minigame, they will enter your inventory as a Pocket Puppy. Use the Pocket Puppy in battle at least 4 times, then go to the Puppy Store. Gorg and Zola will adopt the pug. All Puppy Store items will now have a 50% discount.

Arcade Faker
Beating the Space Cleaner minigame rewards you with the Arcade Token. You can also find the Arcade Token in the dumpster outside the Job Center if you failed the Space Cleaner minigame. Go to the Arcade building in South City and talk to Slumberjack while the Arcade Token is in your inventory. You'll be able to exchange it for CD-ROM.08.

Family Rocks
Talk to Big Dig inside the white dome house in South City. Then, talk to Not-So-Big Dig in her room to receive the Cool Rock. Go to Gloss's house in Grouse Gully with the Cool Rock in your inventory and talk to her. The Cool Rock will become the Cool Mineral. Go back to Not-So-Big Dig and talk with her again. Visit Gloss one more time and talk with her. Gloss will now be hanging out with her family.

Gone Fishn
There are several locations around Bright City where you can find Fishn. Where he appears is based on your system's internal clock. He will show up in a hidden grotto on the left side of East City during Saturday and Sunday. On Tuesday and Friday he appears in South City near the bottom left of the road. He can be found at the edge of the pier in Grouse Gully on Monday. During Wednesday he will be fishing inside the Forest of illusion in a room near the top left corner of the forest. If you've fished at least once before reaching 1000 Futures and its Saturday, Fishn will show up at the end of the dock. The following is the chance for each fish / piece of garbage to appear while fishing: Old Boot = 6.67%, Old Can = 6.67%, Orbfish = 17.78%, Bratfish = 17.78%, Blandfish = 17.78%, Eggfish = 13.33%, Sassfish = 13.33%, Dinkofish = 6.67%. If you've successfully caught at least 29 fish / pieces of garbage, there will be a 50% chance that your fish will be replaced by a Swordfish Pin instead. Fishn's location does not affect your odds while fishing.

Spoof ⏱️
Spoof is a secret boss that can be fought if you find them during specific segments of the game. During the Ghost Hunt event in Chapter 3, run into her near the bathroom. In Chapter 4 before the Apricot Resort elevator breaks, go to the bottom left corner of the maze. In Chapter 5 while working on the S. S. Andy, get past the lone Hunky Doory blocking room 21 and activate Spoof again. She will now be standing in the middle of the East City Market ready to fight you when approached. You'll be rewarded with the Spoof Mask for defeating her, an accessory that prevents status conditions.
Special Thanks
‎ ‎ ‎ I want to give massive thanks to MaximumDanger. They were pretty much my main source of information and listener to my many many rambling about Knuckle Sandwich. Without them, I don't know if I would have stuck with this game like I have.
‎ ‎ ‎ Thank you to ShankMD for helping me access the game's data. Without them, information on True Puppy Store, Gone Fishn, and the mechanics of Jean and Claudia's boss fight would have been completely missing from the guide.
‎ ‎ ‎ Shout out to Pebble for their "UNTIMATE SAVE MASTER FOLDER!!". They had save files for just about every point in the game, which saved me countless hours of backtracking and researching.
‎ ‎ ‎ Finally, I want to shout out all the people who found the hidden Gems. It was a real community effort hunting them all down so massive props to them. The Yellow Gem room was found by WhisperWeaver, the Blue Gem room was found by Radar, the Red Gem room was found by SwitchCubed (hey, that's me!), and the Green Gem room was found by blee and catgirlgenius.
‎ ‎ ‎ There are so many wonderful people in this community and I wish I could personally lay out everyone's contributions to making it was it is. I hope that this game continues to love on in the mind of everyone who's fallen in love with it. Chao!
