How to unlock. Abilities. Synergies. Obvious and not so obvious peculiarities. And some pop (and not so pop) culture references.

Why

Immortal now, avoiding the light
Run like hell! We feed at night
Teens aspire to become vampires
I don’t blame you. In fact I abhor you

Vampire Survivors clone without vampires? What an oxymoron!

Vampires tend to be exemplars of self-sustenance (for themselves) and annoyance (for all other parties involved) in videogames - and I Am Legion: Stand Survivors is no exception!
Which is a VERY tempting set of benefits.

Let's page through all the ins and outs of playing as the creature of the night in this game.
How to Unlock
Get 11 medals-for-challenges to unlock Lava Valley 2. Level 5 Muscle with talents adapted for specific challenges can do most of these without too much trouble.
Beat Lava Valley 2 with any character.
Et voilà!

It will be nice to accumulate some unspent Hero XP ahead of time because...
Abilities 1-4
You unlock abilities listed here by spending Hero Exp on hero selection screen. Yes, "level" in ability title refers to that Hero Level needed, not to levels you gain in actual combat session.
9>10 level up needs 1250 EXP currently. You can't keep more than 9999 unspent XP.
"Level" in ability description refers to levels gained in combat session (which are lost upon finishing it).

Level 1: basic synergy
Blue and above Wolves (and other monstrosities with purple stripe on icon corner):
(2) +200 Max HP
(3) +10 HP/second restored
(4) +35 Armor

Available upon unlocking the character.
Does NOT need stands to be different, unlike other heroes' synergy abilities. I. e. 4x Wolf King will give you full bonus.
Generally useless on its own.

Level 2: Soul Draining
Deals True damage to up to 5 targets.
Each hit have 20% chance to restore 20 HP.

Scales with both Physical Attack and Magic Power (and scales adequately!) - but its damage type is True, so most indirect damage boosts (namely, Penetration and probably Crits) are worthless.
General +% Damage and similar effects still work to its fullest though.
It itself is nothing to phone home about (average damage, no splash, miniscule healing) - however, it'll carry us through first few minutes of the session with almost ANY stands. Feel free to go nuts with it.

Level 3: your first Growth substitute
every 2 levels:
+ 1.2 HP/second restored
+10 Max HP

Without it, level-ups grant Souls (necessary for Stands purchase) only.
Generally useless on its own as well.

Level 4: Echo of Pain
Gain +5% Damage buff for 15 seconds each time you take damage.
Stacks with itself.
Each stack have separate duration.

Now, THIS is where you can cash in all your survivability bonuses - because it procs off each sneeze, and boosts ALL damage output (unconfirmed: including damage over time) including your Soul Draining.
You can simply stand in some lava pool to get this up 24/7:
Abilities 5-10
Level 5: advanced synergy
Purple and above Wolves (and other monstrosities with purple stripe on icon corner):
(1) +15 Life Drain (reminder: Life Drain restores X HP per tens of thousands damage dealt)
(2) +40% Attack Speed, +14 HP/second restored
(3) +60% Damage vs Boss monsters

Does NOT need stands to be different, unlike other heroes' synergy abilities. I. e. 3x Wolf Knight will give you full bonus.
It's sensible to have at least some variety though - but more on this later.
While you usually don't need full bonus (since you either fare well enough without it - or not), Attack Speed buff is a quite uncommon thing, which is always nice. Unless you're running 4x Monks or other Attack Speed independent setup, of course.

Level 6: Vampire Body
While above 35% HP:
lose 5% HP/second
gain +2 Life Drain per 5% HP missing

Of course, you'll lose bonus Life Drain once you'll heal everything back.
And, due to how Life Drain works, don't expect much survivability increase.
It does proc Echo of Pain though...

Now, for some more Growth substitutes...
Level 7:
Soul Draining grants +1 HP/second restoration on each heal proc
Level 8:
every 5 levels: Soul Draining hits +1 target (maximum 10 targets at Level 25)
Level 9:
every 5 levels: Soul Draining deals +20% Damage

Still no area damage from Soul Draining.
Potentially uncapped regen AND damage output looks interesting for future Endless mode...

Level 10: UlTiMaTe
Soul Draining deals +80% Damage and has +20% per hit to restore HP

I. e. with this thing you'll recover 80HP per cast on average. Which is, once again, not much. Although we've accumulated enough healing to be able to recuperate in safety after taking few big hits...
Damage boost, however, will make you plow through first waves stark raving naked. Which is good! You won't have to worry about early game. Which means more time for actually setting your build up.
Stands and Synergies
Vampire's Synergies accept three purple Stands for bonuses: Werewolf, Monkey King and Wolf Knight.

You'll need following combination of green Stands to get all three:
  • 10 wolf
  • 8 infantry
  • 6 pig
  • 4 monkey
  • 2 bald
  • 2 teenager
  • 2 blade knight
One extra Wolf Knight (to increase Max HP gain AND have basic (4) synergy active) will cost you extra:
  • 6 infantry
  • 2 wolf
  • 2 pig
You might want second Monkey King instead though - needed green Stands distribution will be SLIGHTLY more even, area damage they deal will be more predictable and Bleed from their skill may or may not stack (unknown yet).

Werewolf's ability is the only Stand ability which can't stack with itself (and which is VERY nice to have for a Vampire). And, to make things worse, he can't get his Crit/Pen boosted sufficiently (True Damage) and overall have quite average stats.
No running in packs howling at the moon in the night, Marianne of my Dark Heart.

Werewolf was buffed in latest update to date. Its ability can stack with itself officially now.
4 x Werewolfs, 4 x Wolf Knights, anyone?

On a brighter side, Vampire's Synergies offer no Growth stats (most other Heroes' Synergies do).
No explicit damage output buffs except lonely Attack Speed buff.
Require completely insane amount of single green Stand to boot full bonus (like, 12 Wolves and 14 Infantry, really?!) so you can't just build synergies out of whatever you've rolled.
So you can toss all this stuff down the drain, build 8 Giga Pigs (see Zhu Bajie) or whatever is at hand and do crimes against humanity just fine.

And yes, you CAN make 8 x 2* Monks work. Echo of Pain do boost their aura. You can be better Poe than Poe Ratcho himself. The irony...
Talents
Speaking of redundancies.

Talent setup depends on if you've reached Hero Level 10 (i. e. unlocked all Hero Abilities) or not.

If you didn't yet - treat Vampire as a slightly krangled Muscle and build your Talents accordingly.
Some healthy mix of damage improvements to deal damage with Stands and some survivability (and some vegetables).

Once you hit Level 10, however, there's an interesting choice to make.

You can commit to building your Synergies and boosting your general damage output, which means all noncrit/nonpen buffs from leftmost tree, all HP/healing boosts from medium and whatever you can get elsewhere.

OR

You can double down on your per-X-levels bonuses and Echo of Pain buffs.
You see, rightmost (utility) talents tree offers all-you-can-eat:
  • more starting Souls and EXP orbs to buy needed Stands faster and get more per-X-levels bonuses
  • more Ore to build full complement of Red items and absolutely demolish everything
  • more Gold to crack open those precious +1 Physical Attack / Magic Power Growth Blessings much earlier (and Reforge useless Crit boosting items)
From 1st boss onwards, Echo of Pain effectively double all your damage output free of charge. Your Vampire have decent survivability already.
Committing to Utility bonuses (instead of damage and survivability) would help you reach your Hero's full potential faster WHILE fixing whatever RNG hiccups you could've experienced.
Resulting in less stress and more efficiency.
And you can go medium tree once you've maxed Utility. For +% Eggs spawn (= more EXP). And for Movement Speed buff (which, apparently, is mandatory in current meta).

It's not a recommendation - just some food for thought.
Level 10 Vampire is an incredibly stable character which can succeed where others are screwed.
It (potentially) can beat all levels with 8 x 3* Beauties, no sweat. Try it, by the way. It'll be experience of a lifetime, that's for sure.
And it also can be tailored to your particular playstyles and preferences with literally zero effort.
Highly adaptable (and about to be so nerfed, apparently).
