Introduction

Achievement Breakdown: (25)
Story: (5)
Miscellaneous: (20)

Castle of no Escape is an arcade-style game where you explore 6 floors of a tower to hunt down and kill the final boss. The game is heavily dependent on RNG mechanics as each room's contents are randomized. This gives each run a unique feel but can at times be punishing. Luckily the game is very small so even if you die, it's easy to pick another character and start up again.

The game is very short, taking about 30 minutes to get 100% of the achievements, and is designed to be played in short bursts since once you die, you lose all progress on that character.

As the game is RNG-dependent, it may take a few runs to get all achievements.

There are no DLC or missable achievements.
Character Achievements
Achievements: 4
Miscellaneous: 4

NOTE:
I recommend playing as the Wizard to obtain all remaining achievements. It is by far the most powerful class in the game and lets you breeze through the content.

Achievement #1:
Face controller Jr.
Start the game as a champion

    Achievement #2:
    Bits and bites Jr.
Start the game as a bandit

      Achievement #3:
      Papers of pain Jr.
Start the game as a shamaness

All these achievements are obtained by loading into the game as the 3 default characters. Once an achievement is unlocked, simply return to the main menu and pick the next one.

        Achievement #4:
But there was a fourth one
        Select a secret character

While in the character selection menu, press "0" on your keyboard or "RT" on your controller. This will auto-select the 4th secret character, the "Wizard".
This is by far the most powerful character in the game and allows each stat to be boosted up to level 40 (allowing you to instantly kill the majority of the enemies you will encounter).
          Walkthrough & General Strategy
          Achievements: 5
          Miscellaneous: 5

          NOTE:
This game was designed for a controller and I will assume you're using an Xbox controller for the following steps.

          Achievement #5:
          I didn't do nothing! Jr.
Don't do anything for 10 seconds

Upon loading into the game, simply don't touch your controls for 10 seconds for this achievement to pop.

You'll find yourself in a 6x6 grid full of question marks. Explore the area by using the D-Pad to go Up/Down/Left/Right. After moving, take a look at what your character has landed on as it could be something you could take an "action" on.

These are the following things you could encounter when navigating to a new square:
            • Nothing
            • Gold
            • Flare
            • Chest
            • Book
            • Artifact/Gems
            • Stairs
            • Open hole
            • Teleporter
            • Pool of water
            • Crystal Orb
            • Vendor/Trader
            • Enemy

If you land on an enemy, you're automatically placed into combat but you have the option of fleeing
by simply moving to another square. When you do this, the enemy has an attack opportunity and could deal damage to your character assuming they land their hit.

If you're playing as the Wizard, your default stats will be 20 across the board and can be increased to a maximum of 40 by purchasing upgrades from the vendors found scattered throughout the game. The most important stat to worry about is "Intelligence" because one of your spells (the IQ spell) can instantly kill the enemy if their intelligence is lower than yours.

Playing as the Wizard with no stat upgrades, you can instantly kill Goblins, Gremlins, Imps, Snakes, Rates, and Skeletons using the IQ spell. Press "B" and then "RB" on your controller when you encounter an enemy.

During your playthrough, you'll gain the ability to view the intelligence of the enemies during combat so you don't need to guess whether you can kill it with the IQ spell. If you encounter an enemy with a higher IQ than yourself, you can either flee or use the fireball spell against them. Using the fireball spell will decrease your IQ by 1 every time you use it. But this can be easily countered by buying the stat upgrades from vendors.

            WARNING:
If you use the IQ spell on an enemy with a higher intelligence level than you, you will instantly lose the game. Using the spell on an enemy with equal intelligence to your character will have no effect.

I highly recommend using this spell on as many monsters as you can to quickly farm up gold and then purchase stat upgrades at vendors. Focus on improving your intelligence, strength, and dexterity in that order.

If you encounter a large red-colored enemy with 999 health, this is the final boss of the game. I don't recommend fighting him until you've cleared out all the other floors and maxed out your stats. He has the capability of one-shotting you and there are no achievements related to beating him so fighting him has no benefit.

Be sure to grab any chests or books you come across as they can contain valuable armor/weapons/gold/gems. But keep in mind that chests could be traps and explode upon opening them. Also, books could be cursed and cause your character to be forgetful which results in all currently "unknown" squares remaining unknown until you get a gem that can counteract the curse. But this is beneficial as there is an achievement relying on this which will be explained in the next section.
            Exploration Achievements
            Achievements: 25
            Story: 5
            Miscellaneous: 20

            Gold:
            Achievement #6:
            Gold Hunter
            Find some gold

              Achievement #7:
              Anything inside?
Find some gold in the chest

There are a couple of ways of getting gold, you can encounter it randomly by exploring the world in which case your character will instantly pick it up. Fighting and beating monsters will also drop gold, and lastly, finding chests and opening them with "A" on your gamepad has a chance of dropping gold.

In general, you should be grabbing any and all chests throughout the floors so getting these achievements should come naturally.

                Flares:
                Achievement #8:
                Flare Hunter
                Find some flares

Similar to gold, flares can be found by randomly exploring the world and also through random drops in chests.

Getting flares through any of these methods will get you this achievement.

                  Chests:
                  Achievement #9:
                  How about an armor? Jr.
                  Open the first chest

                    Achievement #10:
                    How about a weapon? Jr.
                    Open the second chest

During your exploration, you'll come across chests. In general, you should be opening all chests that you encounter by using the "A" key on your gamepad and they will randomly some loot (or even be trapped and explode). Opening two chests will grant you these achievements.

                      Books:
                      Achievement #11:
                      Vulgar Latin
                      Read the book

During your exploration, you'll come across books. You can read the books by pressing "A" on your gamepad. Books can provide boosts to your stats or even be cursed and cause you to become forgetful or decrease your stats.

Reading any book will grant you this achievement, but keep reading as many books as you can in an attempt to get the forgetful curse that is used in the next achievement.

                        Achievement #12:
                        Come again?
Use a flare when you're forgetful or blind

If you've read a cursed book and gotten the forgetful or blind curse, use a flare by pressing "B" to obtain this achievement.

The curse prevents squares from being "discovered" and will always have the "?" on them and as a result, the flare will do nothing to reveal neighboring squares.

Do your best to avoid picking up the "Pearl", "Opal" or talismans as these will prevent the curse from affecting your character.

                          Floors:
                          Achievement #13:
                          Reach the 2nd floor
                          Reach the 2nd floor

                            Achievement #14:
                            Reach the 3rd floor
                            Reach the 3rd floor

                              Achievement #15:
                              Reach the 4th floor
                              Reach the 4th floor

                                Achievement #16:
                                Reach the 5th floor
                                Reach the 5th floor

                                  Achievement #17:
                                  Reach the 6th floor
                                  Reach the 6th floor

During your exploration, you will come across stairs, open holes, or teleporters. Using a stair will take you to the previous/next floors in fixed locations for that run. Falling into an open hole will drop you to the next floor below you in fixed locations for that run. Running into a teleporter will teleport you to a fixed location in a random room for that run. Use these tools to explore all 6 floors of the game.

                                    Open Hole:
                                    Achievement #18:
                                    What a hole
                                    Fall in the hole

During your exploration, you will come across a hole in the floor. Walking over this hole causes your character to fall through to the next floor. Doing so will grant you this achievement.

                                      Pool of Water:
                                      Achievement #19:
                                      Pool drinker
                                      Drink from the pool

During your exploration, you will come across a pool of water. Walk over it and press "A" on your gamepad to drink from it. Drinking from pools will have a random effect on your character where they can either buff or hurt your stats. I don't recommend drinking from them unless you're doing this achievement.

                                        Crystal Orb:
                                        Achievement #20:
                                        Whats next? Jr.
Try and use a crystal orb

                                          Achievement #21:
                                          I know the way Jr.
Try and fail to use a crystal orb

Crystal orbs look like spikey balls in the world. Interact with one by pressing "A" with your gamepad when you're overtop one. When you do this, the orb will drain some of your stats and spit out 3 numbers. I honestly have no idea what these numbers represent but just keep interacting with the orb until the text says you failed to use it properly.

                                            Vencors/Traders:
                                            Achievement #22:
                                            Friendship wins Jr.
                                            Meet the friendly NPC

You'll encounter a ton of vendors/traders during your exploration across the different floors. They appear as large burly men and are used to buff your stats by spending gold. If you're following the walkthrough from the previous step, you'll need to trade with these NPC's so this achievement is almost guaranteed to pop.

                                              Enemy:
                                              Achievement #23:
                                              And then they all die
Kill every enemy on a floor

                                                Achievement #24:
                                                Been there, done that
Visit every space on a floor

You'll most likely get these achievements together. If you're using the Wizard, lean on the IQ spell to instantly kill all the enemies on a floor. If the enemy has a higher IQ than you, then use the fireball to quickly destroy them.

Upon killing all enemies on a floor, the first achievement will pop.

"Been there, done that" is a little misleading. You don't need to physically visit every square on a floor but rather just uncover them (remove the "?"). this can be done quickly by using flares.

                                                  Achievement #25:
                                                  Untouchable Jr.
                                                  Successfully evade an attack

Getting into a fight with an enemy and then moving to another tile. Fleeing in this manner allows the enemy to get an attempted attack in on you and it's highly likely that they will miss.
                                                    Conclusion
                                                    Congratulations on getting 100% achievements!

I welcome any feedback on how to improve this guide. Please leave any questions or concerns in the comments below. Thanks!
