We can also find a lot of other information on the game that was removed from Steam in the SteamDB page, including a trailer, more screenshots, and some other data. Trailer can be found here, for some reason, embed isn't working.

And lastly from the SteamDB page, we know that the developer and publisher is "game art inc" and it originally had the following tags: Walking Simulator, Adventure, Point & Click, Puzzle, Choose Your Own Adventure, Exploration, Open World, Psychological Horror, Hidden Object, First-Person, Pixel Graphics, Stylized, Text-Based, Surreal, Choices Matter, Conversation, and Singleplayer. We also know that the original description was that "? is a small retro PlayStation 1-style experience".

Upon datamining, I could find evidence of four "scenes" in the game, being intro, outside, gatekeeper, and cabin. Research into "game art inc" sources this Steam store page. This seems to be another version of ?, instead titled "Videogame". It appears to be an early version of ?, or a scrapped one altogether.

As of right now, the game has also stopped opening. There was no update before the game stopped working, and the game requires internet to be played, so it's theorized that something back-end is preventing the game from being played. Running the game from local files will prevent it from crashing but you still land on a black screen with nothing to do.

Upon decompiling the game and looking through the files, it's obvious that some kind of real game is hidden inside, we just can't find out how to access it. Jimmyl suggested that the game connects to a docker (game AI, probably) instance on (ip removed, changes every launch) and either has its access denied or times out. This was then confirmed by Cam, who said "It definitely connects to a server, I disconnected my wifi while I last had the game open and it would only respond that the server was unavailable."

As of 02/26/2025, the game has thus been removed from the Steam store. Honestly, this could be a sign that there is no way of getting into the cabin, as maybe the game was removed in response to how dedicated we all became on getting into said cabin. Nonetheless, if you have the game, consider yourself lucky.

User msun_ posted an interesting screenshot from the game, being what seems to depict a screaming face carved into a tree. While it appears to be from the game, it is not something that anybody else has been able to get to. Below is said screenshot.


msun_ also commented a strange string that when Googled, brings you to a YouTube video. This YouTube video chastises the viewer for digging too deep into the game and sharing information about it online. It also demands that this sharing of information publicly must be stopped or the game will be shutdown. That YouTube video can be viewed here. Interestingly, this video predates the release of the game by almost four years. We don't know for sure if msun_ is related to the source of this game but we have reason to believe they may.

You may be wondering with that warning, why continue to update the guide? Well, unfortunately, the following day, the game was updated. At this point, when opening the game, you are greeted with a picture of a rose under a spotlight as a high pitched tone plays, and then the game autocloses. At this point, it appears that the game has reached a dead end. There has been no discovered way of getting into the cabin and now it appears impossible.



Nonetheless, this was a fun journey, it was my first time really getting into something like this, and it was also my first time making a Steam guide so that's neat. Praise Steve.
