Trial I
In the miniboss room, get the red ghost to appear by standing at a specific spot and waiting until it shows up. Talk to it.


Use your bombs in the following rooms to extinguish the blue flame. Wait for the candle flame to turn blue before bombing. The music will change its pitch for each flame extinguished.


Once you reach this room near the end, take the exit on the right side.


From the pitch black room, the exits are as follows:
  1. Right
  2. Right
  3. (Cutscene Room) Right
  4. Up
  5. Left
  6. Left
  7. Up
  8. Left
The key will be in the middle of the room. If you've already completed the trial, you can now go back to the hub. If you want to continue the trial, just exit to the left.
Trial II
Choose the quickening upgrade at the beginning of the trial.



Destroy the ghost block with a diagonal laser by dying here. Wait for the gate blocks to become active while you are on top of them.


Uncover the ghost block by getting spotted by the red circle.


The other ghost blocks are trivial to destroy.



Wait for the key to show up at this part of the room near the end. Return to hub or continue the trial.
Trial III
You will need to move the blue block from the first puzzle through multiple rooms and reach the end with it. Be careful in the puzzle rooms that have a tablet with a lit flame in front of it. Taking damage will extinguish the flame and disable the puzzle, forcing you to restart.

Sources of damage to look out for:
  • Homing projectiles fired by sentry blocks, activated the first time you move a block and will continuously shoot when there is line of sight.
  • Laser emitting blocks which reach across the whole room if there is no cover, activated each time you move a block.
  • Heating element stage hazard that damages on contact.
  • Getting crushed by the block you moved.
Blue blocks move 2 units each hit, red blocks move 4. Blocks can be bounced off a wall.

First puzzle. No hazards. Open the door and push it through.


2nd puzzle. Still safe. Just push it through.


3rd. Taking damage now will ruin the run and require a restart. You will need to bounce the block off the wall twice. Take care after bouncing it off the sentry block as you will need to briefly expose yourself and act quickly to push the block to the next room.


4th. Use one of the other movable blocks to give yourself some cover to move the key block back into the center. Do not shoot the movable blocks while exposed to the laser emitters.


5th. You'll be quite exposed to the sentry blocks for this one, especially in the top left corner where you need to shoot to move the key block to the right. Take cover if you need a moment to think. Take care not to touch the stage hazards.


6th. You will need to shuffle the other blocks around to give yourself cover from the lasers. Go between the red blocks and bounce them off the laser blocks, then move the blue blocks down. Once you have cover, just push the key block straight through to the next room.


7th. Shoot from specific places to move the block while in cover. Follow the image. It shows the order, position and direction to shoot. Don't touch the stage hazards.


The final room. No hazards, just push it in and receive your key. Return to hub or continue the trial.
Trial IV
Break specific blocks to form the required 5x5 block layout in 4 rooms.

Pick up the key and return to hub or complete the trial.

Is the Trial 4 key not possible to obtain with Overlord? Has anyone done it?

Forcing you to switch ships is very frustrating.

Okay that's kinda funny, shortly after posting my previous comment, I managed to successfully complete Trial III's puzzle. :lilacstare:

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what, but when I reach the seventh room in Trial III I'll take damage when trying to push the block at step 7 even when I feel like I should be safe from the lasers, it's insanely frustrating.

The other ghost blocks in Trial II are NO longer trivial. You need to break ALL FOUR Ghost Blocks for the key to spawn.

For Trial II you should mention that you specifically have to stand in the spot where the key is supposed to appear, not just wait in the room until it spawns as implied currently. You can find the spot where you need to stand by opening the pause menu (there will be an empty block where the key is). Thanks for the guide!

I discovered from a comment on another thread (shoutouts to Tailesque) that if you pause in each of the rooms of the trials, the missing tiles on the pause menu show you where the invisible red ghosts are. I think the trial 1 ghost is the only one needed for a key fragment, but there are many other optional red ghosts with a bit of lore, if anyone was curious.

There's a bunch in trial 1, but I only found 2 in trial 2, and they both just hint at the solution to the trial 2 puzzle. Haven't gone back through the rest yet.

For anyone else feeling frustrated by the ghost maze of Trial I, I made a map of every room after the cutscene room, so you don't have to replay the trial like 6 times to figure out where to go.

Even after finishing the map, I still died one more time on the way there. I've finished trial 4, and reached (but haven't yet finished) loop 13, and I can honestly say this is one of the most annoying "challenges" I've completed in this game. Like, the tight corridors in the final room make it sometimes feel impossible to dodge the ghosts, which will always kill you in two hits. And if you die, you have to essentially do the whole trial over again, which isn't challenging, but is time consuming. I think it'd be a lot more fair if the ghosts only did 2 damage, like it would still be challenging, but it would give you a bit more time to figure out the path on your own. As it is now, I'd recommend just using a map and getting through it as quickly as possible.
