A bunch of those who want to play this game might run into a very big issue after running it, and that's the game not letting them go beyond the default 640x480 resolution.

This image will be the only thing they can see in the game's config tool, and usage of other ways to get a bigger screen size will prove hopeless, as every attempt to forcefully change the game's resolution with third-party solutions such as dgvoodoo and DxWnd will cause it to have a fatal DirectX crash. This is especially a problem for those who want to play in windowed mode as everything will be very small. And simply maximizing the window won't help in that case either, because not only it will create blurry visuals, but also it will cause the game's aspect ratio to change from 4:3 to 16:9 thus horizontally stretching the visuals as a result.

But here's the thing, the game also supports a higher resolution: 1280x960. But for whatever reason, the config tool is not showing it. Thankfully, we can activate this resolution setting to be used in windowed mode, but fullscreen users are out of luck as the game still runs in 640x480 regardless of its settings and may be forced to use solutions such as Borderless Gaming, which I do not own right now. Let's get to work.

The process to do so is pretty easy and only requires activating a Windows setting. Here's step-by-step instructions:

• Open the game's install location (Default path: Steam\steamapps\common\Hellsinker)
  
• Right click on "hs_dx9build.exe" and choose "Properties"
  
• Choose the "Compatibility" tab
  
• Click on "Change high DPI settings"
  
• A new window will open. Check the "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" option at the bottom of it
  
• Make sure "Application" is chosen in the dropdown list below it
  
• Confirm all changes by pressing "OK"

Now start the game. The config tool should now look like this:



As you can see, texts are much bigger and much clearer. And also 1280x960 resolution is now selectable! Choose it and run the game to get rid of that small window and its resulting blurry visuals. Just make sure the "Start in windowed mode" option is checked or it will have no effect.

Now, if you want the game's window to be even bigger, you can do the following:

• Run the game so the config tool shows up
  
• Click on "Info augmentation"
  
• A new window will open. Click on "Window maximize (x2 and higher, pixel shader 3.0 required)" option at the bottom of the page.
  
• Confirm all changes by pressing "close" and launching the game

This causes the game's window to be maximized until it vertically matches your native resolution. Of course, this will also mean that the game will run in borderless mode.
