What is GIBHAUS LAMBDA?

GIBHAUS LAMBDA is a lore-friendly PvE (= Coop) server with many third party campaigns and coop maps to play with friends and strangers. The topic in general: Rebels versus Combine. Some zombies and puzzles for fun, but focus is on armed combat. Ruff armed combat to be more exact.

While it shows up as Half Life 2 Campaign, it is tuned and modified to fit the needs of long term FPS enthusiasts. Like those, who played HL2 and all episoded multiple times - even in Coop - but still can not get enough of the vibe.

But do not be afraid, if you are a newcomer to the whole thing, people will help you to get along. And you can always say "Me noob!" and you will get free money to buy stuff ingame.
(If admin around.)

We tried to remove all the jank, added alot QOL stuff and made the NPCs properly spicy, without turning them into aimbots. So while they shoot very accurate now - and Combine Elite will go for your head - they will take a short while to aim at you. Pretty much like a human player, they will hit static or constantly moving targets with ease, while they they run into problems once you start to zig-zag. So keep moving like in PvP or stay in cover and only peek out for a short while if you want to survive. Also make sure to max out your health and amor before going into combat - if your finances allow it. (It is all rubber money, no real $ involved.)

The server runs the Remastered Realistic Combine AI addon, that really makes the combine a bit smarter and squads work as a team. So do not be surprised when they flank you, or smoke you out of your cover with well aimed grenades when camping for to long. Those NPCs should be taken as serious enemies and their behavior keeps surprising. Do not storm into every room, play as if other players could be waiting. If you do not stay careful (& agressive!), you will die very fast. And dying cost you 33% of the money you just earned..

We testet around 500-600 addons, ~180 made it into server addon list. All while keeping a very close eye on staying within the lore of Half Life 2 universe and general compatibility. Sadly this comes at a price:

Download size and reconnect time

So when you join the first time, you will need to download around 9 GB. This usually takes 10-15 minutes. On map change there is also the chance, that you do not have the map already, but as maps are usually quite small (20-200 MB), this will only take 1-2 minutes. For all those who have the map: For heaven´s sake, give other players a minute to connect. This is coop, not a speedrun!

Note that in general on mapchange it sadly takes quite long until you are back in game. This is due to the server itself needing time to reload all the fancy stuff. There is not much we can do about this, beside renting a more expensive server. We are open to that if there is enough need for it..

Gameplay wise you might not see not that much of a difference at a first glance, but once you play a bit longer, your will feel it.

Some things to note about gameplay

- Enemies will not drop any weapons, but instead a random amount of health and ammo. Yet, these pickups will disappear after a short while, which encourages players to kill on short range. On higher skill it plays a bit like the later doom titles, where you sprint from kill to kill, to keep your health up. Amor can only be bought or found in map.

- Enemies have a chance to get wounded instead of just dying. While creeping on the floor in agnony, they will make best use their pistol to aim for your head. This can hurt quite alot when close, so always make sure to fully kill them, or circle around to avoid their shots on reload. (Rule of thumb: If gibbed into pieces = fully dead). Other combine might try to revive those poor souls, which is bad for you if they succeed, but good for you, if you use the small window the reviving combine is defenceless. Crossbows works perfect for this. (And YES, you CAN indeed revive enemies.. but this would be plain stupid..)

- You can also be wounded instead of instantly dying from damage. Other players - and even friendly NPCs, if in close range - can revive you. You will not loose money when beeing revived, so desperately crying for help in such case is most often a good idea. Not even a shame at all!

- If you want to fully make use of this revive function, use the L4D2 Team HUD. It will show you the other players health and - if they are not visible to you - an outline overlay. To enable, either manually enter l4d2_teamhud in console, or bind this command to a key. In the popup menu doubleclick players you want in your "squad", then just close it. (Note that sadly you need to do this after EVERY mapchange, so binding l4d2_teamhud to a key, might be a good idea. We tried to automate this, but as it needs to be run AFTER all players connected, it did not work out..)

FYI: The campaign addon used actually allows people to open the spawn menu. This allows to give (well known) players the right to (permanently) build stuff. This way any map can be repurposed as Coop map. To see what is possible with that functionality, say in chat:

!votemap gm_overgrown_v1b

This will load our NPC playground, in this case even with custom & polished nodegraph and navmesh. Might be a bit laggy at times, just make sure to kill the combine as they come.
The goal in this example is to steal cameras from the combine forts, and sell them at the shop. (4k rubber points!)

If you want to get into modding maps like that yourself, just join the server, and get into contact.
If you are that far already, you will for sure understand what the lines below are made for.

bind f1 menuon
alias menuoff " -menu; bind f1 menuon"
alias menuon " +menu;bind f1 menuoff"

In general you can do pretty much anything one can do on a regular sandbox server. Thanks to Permaprops and Modest Map Manipulator anything you spawned can be made permanent. There is also full Wiremod support, StrawWagen´s campaign entities and alot more to discover when you are not actually into gibbing combine.

Keybinds
Here are the other most important keybinds

+quicknade
Offhand grens like in oldskool Team Fortress 1! Hold to cook, very powerful, but less exact than using grens the regular way.

+flashnade
Same as above, but does not damage, but instead stun enemies for a short while. Note that it also affects you and other players! So do not spam. It uses regular grenade ammo.

+plasmanade
This is still a bit buggy, as the throw speed is way to high in the addon. Can stick to enemies. Makes nice blue clouds. Also uses regular grenade ammo.

+pingmenu
Visual Ping system that allows players to communicate location of supplies, enemies and general stuff. Just try it, it really adds depth to coop gameplay!

D_CBC_OpenCommandWheel
Opens buddy menu. Aim at friendly NPC to make them your buddy. Will persist mapchange, but not many maps are optimized to work with it, due to nodegraph. Note that this is often needed in campaign, as sometimes friendly NPSs will not follow you. But do NOT make NPCs like Alyx or Barney your buddy, as this will break map logic!

D_CBC_Follow
Will make all (or selected) buddy NPCs follow you. They will teleport close to you if not possible to move there, but this feature is quite buggy.

D_CBC_GoTo
Will make all (or selected) buddy NPCs try to go to the position you aim at. Great to send in some "expendable" NPCs when you are low on health. Opens alot of tactical options in general. Note that the map needs to support that, and sadly not to many do. We are working on it..

D_CBC_TP
Will teleport all (or selected) buddy NPCs to where you aim. Also quite buggy, often works better when aiming at wall instead of floor. (Please do not abuse this feature, as it breaks immersion having sombody teleporting NPCs around without end.) If your NPCs get stuck into each other, use Command wheel to select one, then teleport him away.

What isn´t GIBHAUS LAMBDA
A typical Gmod server aka. a Kindergarden to cry around, insult people, spamming props, laugh about things beeing so stupid and then add some thrusters to a bathtub to shoot yourself into the skybox. There is plenty of servers to do this, this is the wrong place for this.

The minimum age to join is 18 and any childish or antisocial behavior will result in an temp ban. If you repeat this once you will be perma banned, no questions asked. This is a Coop server, so act in game as if you are a rebel fighting the combine - not like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fighting and annoying other players.

While it is totally fine if you try to fill the role of a rebel fighting the combine - also in voice chat - this is also not a RP server where we take things toooo serious.

We want to have fun in the HL2 universe & gib all combines into as little pieces as possible. They deserve!
Some things that are good to know
- You earn money by killing enemies. You can use this money to buy health, amor and weapons at the "Welcome" shops. Money is persistant, so if you rejoin the server later, you will still be rich. (If you where before..). Note that money is reset every monday, and sometimes changes on server might result in money beeing reset, so don´t wait to long.

-Weapons are also persistant, even on reconnect. They will not be reset on mondays usually. Note that some maps will strip your weapons when you play them. This is intended, and you will most likely earn enough money by finishing a map or campaign to buy new stuff. We think about adding boxes to store your weapons for these maps.

- If you want to change map, simply say !mapvote in chat. (Icons are still WIP:)

- It was quite hard to get this all running in a multiplayer context, so don´t be sad if we can not add your favorite addon. For example: We tried plenty of Gore / Blood addons, and pretty much all of them would create major lag once the party started to get a bit denser.
Finally: Bugs & Optimizations
Important notice: We heard of people leaving the server due to a popup they can not close. We could not reproduce, but in general, if you tried to join and suffered from any problem, please let us know in the comments below, so we can fix it. When server is populated, we can see ~3 players per hour trying to connect, most of them leave before ingame. This is most likely because of the 10-15 min waiting time - but if there is any other cause, we would love to know. It is quite hard to debug this kind of stuff, as we can not chat with players not fully connected.!

In general, we run a addon, that will automaticly download all needed addons from workshop to your disk. These will be saved into a temp folder and automaticly deleted after some weeks. (So they will also not show up as subscribed addons.) So if you are lazy, you can just connect to the server and get a cup of tea while your PC downloads all needed addons right from the workshop with full speed. This has been proven to work fine & you can use the windows key to task out of fullscreen game, to spend your time with something better than watching a download bar.

We put alot effort into hunting down any missing texture or model, as this breaks immersion so much. Thus we can proudly state, that this server is ~99.5% error free, which is en par with Gmod itself! 8-)

Still, some people seem to suffer from the bold red plague and the pink chess boards of dispair.
It often helps to disable the addons you installed locally. (You can save a preset, so you can reenable them afterwards with one click.)

To do so:

1. Open Gmod and save your currently enabled addons configuration under a speaking name like "way_too_many", so you can restore this state later.

2. Disable ALL addons.

3. Restart GMOD, then connect to server, let it download. This has fixed 99.5% of all problems!

(Explanation: As Gmod Addons are quite the wild west, many addons or maps you have locally activated overwrite textures and models. This causes the havoc. Note that there is no need to unsubscribe, it is enough to disable them.)

4. If you want to go back to your previous addon config, just load the preset you saved in step 1

If you still have missing models, textures or enemies are invisible

This might be caused by your GMOD directoryhaving "corrupt" files.

To fix this:

1. Exit Gmod
2. Right Click on Garry´s Mod in your Steam Library --- > Click "Properties"
3. Choose "Installed Files" and click on "Verify integrity of game files"

This will take quite a while, but has been proven to fix the other 99.5% of all issues.
(And is in general a good idea, as these "corrupt" files can lead to errors on all servers you play.) Keep in mind: Many people have played on this server without any serious bugs or errors!

If you want to get rid of the wait on map changes

1. exit GMOD
2. manually subscribe to our FAST DOWNLOAD collection: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3513258507
3. let it download
4. rejoin server

Please note: If you have ANY addon enabled locally that is not in the GIBHAUS LAMBDA addon collection when joining the server, we can NOT give you any support when you run into problems. As said we serve around 180 addons, it was alot work to test them all for compatibility and there is simply no way to tell if this setup works with any other addons thrown into the mix.

Last but not least: Be friendly to your fellow rebels - may they be AI or human - and aim for the head of all combine. The smaller the gibblets, the bigger the fun!
