Strategy Guide for Achievement Hunters Resident Evil 5
由 Lady Jack 制作
DISCLAIMER: This guide only covers the Main Story Line, Lost in Nightmares, and Desperate Escape - it does not cover the other game modes Versus nor Mercenaries... thus it does not cover 100% of the achievements.

This guide is meant for players that reasonably expect to get through the game with little to no special guidance, but who like me find it useful to plan out their game play such that a reasonable amount of runs through the game will complete the Steam Achievements. To accomplish this, it provides what I found to be a reasonably enjoyable and challenging set of of tasks and runs that will build your game resources and experience to accomplish this while avoiding unnecessary repetition and/or attempts at tasks your characters are not ready for.

While this is the main goal of the guide, the first section Game Mechanics will likely have some points of interest for anyone that wants to play the game well. It provides information about how saved games tie to game progress as well as achievement progress, how various game modes and items are unlocked, and how various game settings and configurations effect game play.

Introduction
This guide is intended for achievement hunters, but the first section Game Mechanics will likely have some points of interest for anyone that wants to play the game well. It is a strategy guide more than a "how to" guide.

It is the goal of this guide to give you a set of specific pre-planned runs which when completed will complete almost all of the Steam Achievements for the game. In general it assumes you are competent at playing the game and that your skills with the game will increase from run to run. For each run it provides a list of Achievements you should be working on during the run and the runs are staged such that tools you will need to complete a run are unlocked by previous runs.

The guide does not provide the quickest nor the easiest way to complete all of the challenges, rather it intends to give a clear path for a player of any skill level to complete all of the challenges while attempting to keep each run entertaining and challenging. A lot of the information in the guide would be considered spoilers as it doesn't appear in any of the in-game instructions, nor the official CAPCOM game manual. However, it is not the intent of this guide to give away "secrets" nor to remove any of the challenge of the game. Short sections with spoiler content have been marked, so it is up to you to decide if you want that information before hand or not.

Full disclosure - When we played this game we primarily played in "Couch Co-Op" mode. Thus the "AI Partner" was turned off. We completed almost all of the Steam Achievements in this manner. There are a few which require the use of the AI Partner rather than a local or on-line co-op partner. Some Achievements may be easier or harder played either solo or with an on-line co-op partner.

This guide does not include any input on how to complete the 9 Versus Steam Achievements. These Player Vs. Player achievements and the Versus add-on in general had little to no interest to us.
General Game Mechanics
Understanding the following game Mechanics will make the game more enjoyable.

Storylines
Resident Evil 5 tells it's story in three parts. The first and largest part is told as you play through the main game as Chris (or later as Sheva). Once you have completed this main story line, the Extra Content menu will have two additional story lines for you to play. In Lost in Nightmares you will experience the last time Chris and Jill met Wesker. In Desperate Escape you will see how Josh and Jill got off the island.

Most (51) of the Steam Achievements are associated with the main story line. However there are 5 associated with Lost In Nightmares and 5 associated with Desperate Escape. The remaining 9 are associated with the extra game mode Versus.

This guide will cover the Main Game, Lost in Nightmares, and Desperate Escape, but does not cover Versus, Mercenaries, nor New Mercenaries.

Quick Time Events (QTE)
On the Main Menu, the Options menu will allows you to tailor the game play to you, your system, and your controller.

UBER IMPORTANT: Action Assist
This controls the Quick Time Events (QTE) within the game. By default it is set to "Auto". There are three settings which are not intuitive in any way. Make sure you chose the one that fits how you like to play. If you like QTE, then by all means turn this setting off.
  • Auto - All cutscenes will be done automatically and in-game QTE are limited to just a couple of different buttons/keys
  • Assist - QTE is active for both cutscenes and in game events, but they are limited to just a couple of different buttons/keys
  • OFF - Assistance is turned off for all QTE in cutscenes and in-game events are active and have more options of buttons/keys

QTE that can be turned off:

  • Chapter 1-2: Motor Cycle Majini attack
  • Chapter 2-3: Going around curves in back of Jeep Josh is driving
  • Chapter 3-2: Alligator on Raft
  • Chapter 6-2: Dodging attacks at the beginning of the sequences
  • Chapter 6-3: Airplane sequence

Saved Games
There are no manual saves in Resident Evil 5. The game is automatically saved as you cross check points within the various Chapters of the game. When you start the game and chose "Play Game" from the main menu, you will have the option to "Continue" or "Chapter Select". (There are also other options for other guide topics later). Choosing "Continue" will start the game from the last encountered "Check Point". Choosing "Chapter Select" will allow you to start the game from any of the "Chapters" you have previously unlocked. You unlock Chapters by completing the Chapter just previous to it.

If you die you will be given the option of "Retrying" or "Quitting". If you "Retry" the death is counted against you and the game will restart from the last check point. If you choose "Quit" and then chose "Continue" from the "Play Game" menu, play will restart from the last check point - but the death will not count against you.

Difficulty Settings
Each of the chapters can be played on four different difficulty levels:
  • Amateur - Enemies do less damage and are weaker, ammunition and other items are abundant, and the player has more time to complete QTE.
  • Normal - The intended difficulty of the game other difficulties are measured against
  • Veteran - Enemies do much more damage and are much stronger, ammunition and other items are more scarce, and the player has less time to complete QTE (QTE buttons are more random). Chainsaw Manjini get back up in a frenzied state.
  • Professional - Enemies are much stronger. Armed melee attacks do 10x the normal damage and you inflict only 85% of your normal damage. The Jeep takes much more damage when hit. All fixed ammunition and grenade locations are removed (though herbs remain). QTE events are very short, and the buttons required are very random. Foes no longer drop herbs. The EP value of items found is doubled. Chainsaw Manjini get back up in a frenzied state.

Not mentioned above, there are two additional things about Professional mode that make the game much much harder:
  • If your partner goes into dying - you have only 2 or 3 seconds to provide help
  • QTE events become very specific. In other modes you can hit multiple buttons for the QTE, all that matters is you hit the correct one within the window. In Professional mode, the first button you press is taken instantly, if you press more than one button the QTE fails.

When the game is first loaded, you can only chose Amateur, Normal, or Veteran. Once you have completed all of the chapters on Veteran, the choice of Professional will be added. To complete all of the Steam Achievements, you will have to complete the game at least twice - once on Veteran and once on Professional. The Steam Achievements, however, do not require any specific rank, simply that each chapter be completed.

Chapters
Unlike previous Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 5 does not have the concept of a "New Game" nor a "New Game+". Instead, there are 16 Selectable Chapters. When the game is first loaded, only Chapter 1-1 is available. A new chapter is opened each time you complete a previous chapter. Anytime you use the "Chapter Select" option from the Play Menu you will have the option of choosing the difficulty you wish to play at along with other options. The options will default to the settings you were using in your most recent game play. Choosing "Continue" from the menu will take you to the last check point save location within the most recently played Chapter.

There are a few game play options that must be unlocked before they will be available when choosing to play a chapter:
  • Play as Sheva - you must complete all of the chapters in order to unlock playing Sheva as the main character.
  • Infinite Ammunition - this has several steps:
    • Complete all chapters of the game (any difficulty setting)
    • Fully upgrade the weapon for which you want to use infinite ammunition
    • Choose "Bonus Features" from the Play Game menu, find the weapon in the list and purchase the infinite ammunition upgrade
    • Choose "Special Settings" from the Play Game menu, turn "infinite Ammo" on
    • In the Network configuration when starting a chapter, make sure "Infinite Ammo" is set to "Yes"
Battle Points (BP) and Bonus Features
Battle Points (BP) are awarded to you during game play. You will find "Treasures" which can be sold for BP during game play at the point when you first enter play (either from "Continue" or "Chapter Select" and between Chapters if you just continue game play after a chapter ends.

From the same inventory system where you sell treasures you will have the option of using the BP to purchase items from the "Merchant" or ask the Merchant to upgrade your weapons. This is an integral part of the game play - making sure you have the right equipment to progress in the game as well as strong enough weapons to progress.

As you progress through the game, weapon cases will be available where you can pick up new weapons. Whether or not you pick up the new weapon, the new weapon will be added to the Merchant's item list for purchase.

You can upgrade a weapon's power, capacity, and reload speed. Some weapons will also have an additional feature that can be upgraded.

You cannot purchase ammunition - you can however purchase "capacity upgrades" for your weapons. Purchasing a capacity upgrade will fully load your weapon. Thus, upgrading the capacity of an "Empty" weapon will grant you the most additional ammunition.

Though there is never an in-game merchant for you to find, this inventory system should feel familiar from your merchant encounters in Resident Evil 4.

There are a whole host of other things that BP can be used to purchase in the game. From the Play Game Menu you can access a long list of items which can be purchased under "Bonus Features". Here you can purchase:
  • Costumes for both Chris and Sheva
  • Screen Filters to change the look of the game
  • 46 different Figurines
  • Infinite Ammunition upgrades for any "fully upgraded" weapon
  • 8 additional Versus Characters

In order to complete all of the Steam Achievements, you will need to purchase all of the costumes, figurines, and Versus characters as well as fully upgrade every weapon available in the game (though you do not have to purchase the screen filters nor infinite ammo upgrade for any of the weapons).
Strategy Guide Overview
Even though Resident Evil 5 is centered around completing Chapters, we will still center our guide on completing playthroughs of the game on different difficulty settings. However, since a significant number of the Steam Achievements are accomplished by using BP to purchase items and because once you complete your first playthrough, you will have access to all of the chapters, the feel of the guide and game play may at times feel repetitive as you farm specific areas for BP.

The following suggested tasks, should easily get you all of the Steam Achievements associated with the three possible storylines:
  • All Chapters as Chris on Normal - this is the game the way it was meant to be experienced.
  • All Chapters on Amateur - Easter egg hunts and close out specific combat achievements
  • All Chapters on Amateur - Speed Run
  • All Chapters on Veteran - unlock Professional
  • Lost In Nightmares DLC
    • Normal
    • Amateur / Normal - Score Stars
    • Amateur / Normal - Speed Run
    • Veteran - unlock Professional
    • Professional
  • Any Difficulty Level - Farming for BP for any remaining items to purchase
  • All Chapters Professional - just get through it
  • Desperate Escape DLC
    • Normal
    • Amateur / Normal - Shoot The Messenger
    • Amateur / Normal - Speed Run
    • Veteran - unlock Professional
    • Professional - just get through it

We recommend this order because it keeps the difficulty progression relatively smooth, but also because it makes it easy to describe what to do in the guide. You should absolutely feel free to run the DLC content at anytime after it is unlocked. You may want to experience the "Normal" run of each of DLC as soon as it becomes available - certainly the story line content flows well that way.

There is a lot of content to explore in this game, but there is also a fair bit of repetitive farming to get sufficient BP to purchase all of that content and complete the Steam Achievements. You should expect to spend between 100 and 120 hours on these runs.

Remember - this guide does not include the Versus game mode and the 9 Steam Achievements associated with it - so if you want those and can find enough online friends to make them happen, expect to spend a non trivial amount of time getting those achievements as well.
Main Storyline (all chapters) as Chris on Normal
The only real choice you have when you first play the game is what difficulty setting you want to play. We always suggest playing the entire story line of the game through on Normal first. This IS the game as it was originally intended. It gives you the full story experience the way it was meant to be told and experienced - if you are a Resident Evil fan, this is why you bought the game to begin with - so don't cheat yourself out of the experience by worrying about all the hidden objects, secrets, and flashy weapons and outfits - just enjoy this masterpiece game!

Play the game at your own pace, look around, search every area, read every document, learn the weapons and character movement timing and rhythm. Try to get the full experience with a single focus of getting the full story and learning the game mechanics.

In Game Unlocks
Completing all chapters on Normal Difficulty for the first time will unlock the following:
  • Chris Costumes: Safari & Heavy Metal
  • Sheva Costumes: Clubbin' & Fairytale
  • Ability to chose to play as Sheva in the main campaign
  • Mercenaries
  • Mercenaries Reunion (if you own the Gold Edition of the game)
  • Lost In Nightmares
  • Desperate Escape
  • Several figurines for sale in "Bonus Features" as well as 6 of the "Extra Figurines" in "Extra Content" menu
  • Ability to enable "Infinite Ammo" in the campaign settings
  • Screen Filters: Classic Horror & Retro

Bonus Features
It is recommended that you spend the BP you collect on this run on upgrading your weapons of choice. These weapon upgrades will be available in every subsequent run you make and critical to making the rest of your play go smoothly.

Fully upgrading your weapons of choice will also unlock the ability to buy "infinite ammo" upgrades for those specific weapons before you make subsequent runs - but don't overly stress it if your weapons are not quite fully upgraded by the end of this run through the chapters.

Do not spend your BP on figurines and such at this point.

Records / Achievements Earned
During this first pass through the chapters you will complete the following (18) achievements. You may also have triggered several "Combat" related achievements which will be covered later in the guide.
  • Completed Chapter 1-1
  • Completed Chapter 1-2
  • Completed Chapter 2-1
  • Completed Chapter 2-2
  • Completed Chapter 2-3
  • Completed Chapter 3-1
  • Completed Chapter 3-2
  • Completed Chapter 3-3
  • Completed Chapter 4-1
  • Completed Chapter 4-2
  • Completed Chapter 5-1
  • Completed Chapter 5-2
  • Completed Chapter 5-3
  • Completed Chapter 6-1
  • Completed Chapter 6-2
  • Completed Chapter 6-3
  • Recruit - Complete all chapters on Amateur
  • Soldier - Complete all chapters on Normal

Keep an Eye Out
While you play, if you find eggs (White, Brown, Gold, or Rotten), make sure not to use all of them. Keep at least one of each type in your inventory box until you have collected all four types to unlock the Egg Hunt Achievement. This shouldn't be a focus during this run - but keeping those you find in storage can prevent a lot of hassle looking for one later...

Main Story Combat Achievements Part 1
You may have completed many of these achievements during your first run of the chapters, but we have listed them all here as a concise reference to refer back to as any of them could be missed. A short description of each is provided along with a suggestion on how to set them up.

It should be noted that these Achievements can also be completed playing Mercenaries - but since our guide doesn't cover this added game mode, we have described solutions using the chapters of the main game.

It is recommended that you spend the BP you collect on this run on upgrading weapons. First fully upgrade "go to" weapons and purchased the infinite ammo options for them. Once that is complete, focus on upgrading these weapons in order to unlock additional weapons you will need for the Stockpile achievement.
  • S75 (RIF) - Unlocks the Long Bow for Sheva
  • VZ61 (MG) - Unlocks the Gatling gun for Chris
  • M37 SG - Unlocks the Hydra shotgun
  • S&W M29 Mag - Unlocks the S&W M500
  • M92F HG - Unlocks the M93R

I have tried to group the achievements based on the Chapter I felt it was easiest to complete them and where similar actions could trigger achievements in the order they are listed for the chapter.

Chapter 1-1
Stop, Drop, & Roll:
Defeat 3 Majini at once by setting Oil canisters on fire. Right outside the gate which the Executioner Majini will knock down there is a group of oil canisters. You just need three of the Majini to be near enough to catch on fire.

Ride the Lightning
Defeat a Majini using the electric current from a transformer. After you run through the crashed gate and past the oil canisters, there will be a pole with a transformer next to the building. Shooting the transformer will drop it and "shock" any Majini near it. After it is on the ground it can be discharged again after a short "charging period" after each discharge.

Baptism by Fire:
Defeat 3 Majini at once with a drum or gas tank explosion. On the back side of the building with the transformer pole there are stairs leading to the roof. There is an explosive barrel on top of that roof. Probably best to jump to the next small square roofed building before exploding it...

Lead Aspirin:
Defeat a Majini with a headshot while it's jumping. From the small square roof where you shot the exploding barrel, just wait for Majini to attempt to get to you by jumping from one roof (or the bus) to your small roof. A shotgun makes hitting the head easier.

Meat Shower:
Defeat 3 Majini with one grenade or proximity bomb. It should not be hard to find an opportunity to hit three of the hoard with a grenade here...

Lifeguard: Save partner 10 times when DYING is displayed
Who Do You Trust?: Build up a certain level of trust with your partner

These two achievements can be accomplished after the helicopter has cleared the area - but before you leave the area. They are easy to get if you are playing Co-Op, if you are playing solo it may be harder to get the Lifeguard achievement unless you bring the AI partner with no equipment and wait for them to be in the dying state during the normal play of the chapter.

After the entire area is cleared by the helicopter, approach the transformer you have knocked off it's pole and hit it with the Stun Rod repeatedly. The other player (or your AI bot) will heal you when you get critical. Make sure to be hitting the key to Thank Them for the help... The player helping will get the Lifeguard achievement and the player hitting the transformer and thinking their partner for the help will get the Who Do You Trust? achievement.

Chapter 2-1
Be The Knife
Deflect a bow gun arrow with your knife. Early in the cargo container maze you encounter Majini standing on top of the containers shooting cross bow bolts - perfect place to attempt this.

Fireworks:
Shoot the Molotov cocktail, dynamite stick, or hand grenade being held by an enemy. This straight forward achievement is likely to be completed simply by playing the game, but if not there are a few Majini in the opening part of this chapter that have dynamite.

The Works
Chain the maximum number of combos together in one go. This is more easily completed in Co-Op with a friend. Once an enemy is stunned, take turns with physical attacks. The 3rd attack triggers the Achievement. Only the player landing the 3rd hit gets the achievement. The Strong Man that approaches at the end of the cargo containers is strong enough to remain standing for the 3 hits you need. Have him chase you back into the space between the cargo containers, use a Flash Grenade to stun him, then take turns with the prompted physical attacks.

Chapter 2-3
Drive By:
Stop an armored truck by taking out the driver. While this sounds simple, it may take a few re-plays of the chapter in order to complete it. It can only be completed in this chapter and getting a good line of sight to the driver is sometimes a bit problematic - you can't explode the truck, nor can your partner (might be easier in co-op play), you have to shoot the driver.

Chapter 4-1
Go Into The Light:
Defeat 2 enemies with one flash grenade. The first group of Bui Kichwa that crawl out of the ground works, but there are other groups in a tight cave that work well too. They even give you a flash grenade in the shack on the dock where you start.

A Friend in Need:
Save partner 10 times when HELP is displayed. It is probably easier to get this achievement here than in Chapter 1-1. The same Bui Kichwa swarms can be used to grab your unarmed AI partner - letting you help by knocking them off without much risk. If you are playing with a real partner they can get the Who Do You Trust? achievement by thanking you each time you knock one off.

Main Story Combat Achievements Part 2
Chapter 5-2
Heart Stopper:
Defeat a certain enemy by stabbing it in the heart. The "certain enemy" is any licker. To get the achievement you must knock it on it's back (shotgun works well for this) then approach and get the physical attack context attack completed.

Bad Blood:
During the first fight with Wesker, damage him a set number of times. A rocket launcher is pretty much required to trigger this achievement and it is much easier to do co-op (though only the player damaging Wesker gets the achievement). When you first encounter Wesker and Jill, each player should run in a different direction. Try to get a view of Wesker as he follows the other player - moving directly away from you is best. Shoot him with the rocket launcher - he will turn and catch the rocket, immediately flip to another weapon (non shotgun works best) and shoot again - this will hit the rocket exploding it and triggering the achievement.

NOTE: This is required in order to get the Heart Of Africa jewel which is required for the They Belong in a Museum achievement as well.

Masters of Removing:
Work together to save someone special. This can be done whether or not you triggered the Bad Blood achievement in this pass of the chapter. Once Wesker has left the building and you are left facing only Jill, you need to grab and hold her while the other player pulls the device from her chest. Grabbing her can be done if you can get behind her, which is the easiest to do when she is grabbing her head and shaking, which can be caused by Chris "talking to her". Once you grab her you will get a QTE to continue holding her, the other player gets in front of her and gets a QTE to pull on the device. It will take a lot of iterations of this to get the device off (7, 8, more?). Each time she breaks free the person holding her will get a QTE to dodge her counter attack.

This achievement will not trigger if you remove her device by knocking her down and pulling the device off while sitting on her chest. Both players must be involved, and both players will get the achievement if done in co-op mode.

Misc Other Achievements
These achievements are counted across your entire game play... should be no issue getting them to trigger, but you may need to remind yourself to go "beast mode" a few times. There are enough enemies in Chapter 1-1 to close out any of these, or just wait and they will pop eventually.

Exploding Heads: Pull off 20 Headshots
Cattle Prod: Defeat 30 enemies with the Stun Rod
A Cut Above: Defeat 5 enemies with the knife
Get Physical: Defeat 20 enemies with physical attacks

Bull's-eye:
Defeat 30 enemies with the longbow. You must first unlock and purchase the Longbow to get this achievement.
Crowd Control:
Defeat 30 enemies with the Gatling gun. You must first unlock and purchase the Gatling Gun.

Egg on Your Face:
Defeat a Majini with a rotten egg. This can be done in the first couple of chapters, but DO NOT complete this until after you have completed the Egg Hunt Achievement or have more than one Rotten Egg. Simply ready the egg as and use it as you would any other weapon.

Main Story Treasure and Emblem Hunts
At this point you have seen the entire story line available in the main campaign. But there will have been a multitude of small things you missed in the excitement and rushed pacing of the game if you were fully involved in the story line. This is a good time to step back and take a more analytical look at the chapters as you work on several more involved achievements.

Who To Play As
It is recommended that you spend some time playing as Sheva during this part of the guide. Playing as Sheva does not change the story, nor provide any more detail about the story, you simply go through the story line from her visual point of view. But, it is engaging and fun to experience the game as both players.

As you are likely to play many of the chapters more than once, trade back and forth as you like between Chris and Sheva, but do try to experience every chapter at least once as Sheva.

Bonus Features

Difficulty Level
For difficulty, you should play on any level you feel comfortable with, but honestly, the tasks will go smoother and quicker if you play on Amateur difficulty. The amount of BP dropped isn't changed by the difficulty level, nor are the number of treasures or items of value. A big portion of your game play time will be spent here and there is little reason to deal with the frustration of pixel hunting for hidden objects and trying to set up specific combat scenarios while also worrying about surviving or maintaining ammunition levels.

What To Focus On
There are two primary Search And Find achievements that will probably take you back to each of the chapters at least one more time and one smaller one that may simply be annoying:
  • Badge of Honor - Find all the BSAA emblems
  • They Belong in a Museum - Obtain all treasures in the game
  • Egg Hunt - Find all 4 types of eggs. They must all be in your inventory box at the same time.
    • White - Always available on the chicken island Chapter 3-1, drops from killing snakes or spiders, and sometimes Manjini
    • Brown - Uncommon, found on chicken island or dropped from snakes, spiders, and rarely Manjini
    • Rotten - Uncommon, drops from Manjini from chapter 4-1 on, but randomly, so just keep looking.
    • Gold - Rare... only found on chicken island and rarely even there (just reload 3-1 over and over till you get one)

We have dedicated the next two sections of the guide to the Badge of Honor and They Belong in a Museum Achievements. These sections will give you a complete list of items and their locations. You should work through both lists at the same time. Start in Chapter 1-1, and progress through the entire campaign finding the emblems and treasures specific to each chapter as you go.
Badge of Honor Achievement
You can find the number of emblems available in each chapter by looking at each chapter in the chapter selection screen. Below the image for each chapter they list the Ranking for each of the four difficulty settings and then next to a blue emblem icon the number of emblems found vs the number hidden in the chapter.

Collecting all the BSAA emblems will unlock most of the remaining Figurines.

List of Emblems by Chapter
There are a total of 30 emblems hidden throughout the game.

Chapter 1-2: 3
  • #1: Visible on top of a wall from the second floor balcony of a building
  • #2: Under a water tower which is above the area where you climb a wooden ladder

  • #8: At the "assisted jump" location turn around and look up - near the corner of the roof line

Chapter 2-2: 3
  • #9: On the tower behind the start point for the level - walk out a ways and turn around
  • #10: Near the top of a water fall on the right as you cross a small underground bridge
  • #11: When you climb the tall ladder on the cliff - from the top turn around and look at the building where you encountered Irving.

Chapter 3-1: 4
  • #12: On a pole in the lake - just barely visible from the start point... solo you have to shoot from the starting dock. Local co-op you can get it from the boat by driving to the pole and the other player shooting it.
  • #13: Underneath the hut on the Chicken island - on the right side if looking at the hut from the dock. Can be shot from behind the hut in local co-op where it is easier to see.
  • #14: Ceiling of a small hut off the dock in the top left area of the map
  • #15: After going through the locked door and jumping down into the water - turn around

Chapter 3-2: 2

Chapter 3-3: 1
  • #18: Under the bridge the boat goes under just before the 1st gated area.

Chapter 4-1: 3
  • #19: As you cross the bridge after climbing the ladder - look to your right and down
  • #20: When you get to the area with the flaming balls, the emblem is across the area above the doorway about halfway up the building
  • #21: In the area with the statues and moving stairs. Right at the beginning go up the stairs to your right and look to your left, it is on a wall just above a roof line - can be hard to find.

Chapter 4-2: 1
  • #22: On the last floor of the reflection puzzle, in a room with an impaled skeleton

Chapter 5-1: 1
  • #23: In the room with the tiered garden and umbrella crates - walk as far around right as you can and look under the bridge.

Chapter 5-2: 1
  • #24: After the conveyor belt with explosive crates there is a dumpster with an emblem. You may need to us a grenade to get this one

Chapter 5-3: 3
  • #25: After the boss fight when you leave the room, find the emblem behind a turning fan up and to the right
  • #26: Possibly the most annoying emblem, the emblem is on the floor of the first "turrets" where a foe comes out and pulls the lever to slow the lift.
  • #27: After the spinning room go behind the elevator in the next area to find the emblem

Chapter 6-1: 3
  • #28: Climb to the top of the first tower and look back over the ship. Near the top of one of the towers way off in the gloom there is an emblem. It is hard to see.
  • #29: Seen only in a cut scene showing one of the platforms rise, there is an emblem in a container where enemies are jumping out of. You need to use a grenade, rocket launcher, or grenade launcher get this with an explosion inside the container.
  • #30: After the cut scene with Excella you can find the last emblem in an upper cabinet behind some glass.

For a more visual reference if you are still missing a few emblems. I found this reference useful (though it is missing the emblem in Chapter 5-1). https://www.gamesradar.com/resident-evil-5-bsaa-emblem-guide/3/

They Belong in a Museum Achievement
There are a total of 50 different treasures that can be collected during game play. Only 11 of the treasures are "common" found in multiple places and relatively easy to find.

Common Treasures
These treasures are so common it doesn't really make sense to list every where they can be found.

The Hear of Africa drops on the 1st floor between the two stair cases.

Chapter 6-1:
  • #49 Topaz (Oval) - When you start the level you need to climb the two ladders to the crow's nest, then select a sniper rifle. You'll see an enemy at the top and halfway down the crane, but don't shoot them. Instead, aim down and to the right and you'll see another one with a helmet and stun rod. Shoot him, and after your partner gets trapped and you get the crane key. After activating the switch to free your partner, you will run into some enemies, one will drop the treasure.

Chapter 6-3:
  • #50 Marquis Diamond - At the very beginning of the final fight with Wesker in the volcano when he first appears, turn around and run, but STOP BEFORE you get to the part that collapses. Shoot down the large cliff face in the distance that is "off color". The proceed to fall through the "bridge" that crumbles, and run to your left and jump over to the fallen rock to find the diamond.

Main Storyline Ranks and Speed Runs
Once you have completed the hunting and combat achievements, you should be geared up to easily complete a Speed Run of the game as well as obtain an "S-Rank" on all the chapters.

While there are no specific achievements tied to completing the game in under 5 hours, but you must complete this challenge in order to unlock the purchase of an Infinite Rocket Launcher for the Stockpile achievement. The speed achievement must be in a single difficulty. That is you cannot mix the times from different difficulty settings when adding up the time.

Likewise there is no specific achievement tied to completing the game with an S-Rank in all chapters, but you will need to complete this challenge in order to unlock the purchase of two "Rare" figurines needed for the They're ACTION Figures! achievement. Unlike the time challenge, the rank challenge only requires you have at least one "S-Rank" on any difficulty for a chapter - they don't all have to be at the same difficulty setting.

If you have unlocked and purchased infinite ammunition for your "go to" weapons, this really should not be too much of a challenge. In the chapter select menus you can look through each of the chapters and compare them to the following "suggested" completion times in order to decide which chapters you need to focus on running faster. You should also use the Chapter Select menu to determine which chapters you still need to get an S-Rank on.

As always with speed runs - DO NOT CONTINUE... instead quit and restart the chapter.

Suggested Times
The following suggestions come out to exactly 4 hours... this gives you a full hour buffer. Some of this will depend upon weapons you have unlocked and your understanding of the boss mechanics for each chapter. For our specific speed runs, we had a very quick Veteran run for chapter 6 (halving our best Armature run of chapter 6) but took nearly 3x the time to complete chapter 2 in Veteran than we did on Amateur. So if you have wildly different times on either of these two chapters, don't be overly concerned.

Chapter 1
Complete in 17 minutes
  • Chpater 1-1: 0:10:00
  • Chpater 1-2: 0:07:00

Chapter 2
Complete in 38 minutes.
  • Chapter 2-1: 0:13:30
  • Chapter 2-2: 0:11:00
  • Chapter 2-3: 0:13:30

Chapter 3
Complete in 40 minutes.
  • Chapter 3-1: 0:13:30
  • Chapter 3-2: 0:13:45
  • Chapter 3-3: 0:12:15

Chapter 4
Complete in 30 minutes.
  • Chapter 4-1: 0:17:15
  • Chapter 4-2: 0:12:30

Chapter 5
Complete in 55 minutes.
  • Chapter 5-1: 0:07:00
  • Chapter 5-2: 0:18:00
  • Chapter 5-3: 0:30:00

Chapter 6
Complete in 60 minutes.
  • Chapter 6-1: 0:20:00
  • Chapter 6-2: 0:20:00
  • Chapter 6-3: 0:20:00

In Game Unlocks
Completing all chapters on any Difficulty for a total time of less than 5 hours and obtaining an S-Rank for each of the chapters on any difficulty will unlock the following:
  • Infinite Rocket Launcher
  • Jill (Rare) figurine
  • Wesker (Rare) figurine

Bonus Features
It is recommended that you spend the BP you collect on these runs upgrading weapons. First fully upgrade "go to" weapons and purchased the infinite ammo options for them. Once you have unlocked and purchased infinite ammunition on your "go to" weapons, you can really spend your BP on any of the purchases in the Bonus Features menu since all but the infinite ammunition upgrades are required for the achievements. But upgrading the weapons first gives you the most flexibility in your game play. Keep in mind you will need to complete the following weapon upgrades to unlock additional weapons needed for the Stockpile achievement.
  • S75 (RIF) - Unlocks the Long Bow for Sheva
  • VZ61 (MG) - Unlocks the Gatling gun for Chris
  • M37 SG - Unlocks the Hydra shotgun
  • S&W M29 Mag - Unlocks the S&W M500
  • M92F HG - Unlocks the M93R
Main Story On Veteran
With all of the great weapon purchases unlocked you are more than ready to tackle the Veteran difficulty setting. Using either character re-play each of the chapters on Veteran difficulty. You do not need to start a new game, simply use the Chapter Select menu to move through the game. It isn't even required that it be in "order", just that you actually complete each chapter on the Veteran difficulty.

You can make this as challenging as you like, or simply bring along an infinite rocket launcher and watch things go boom. If you have not obtained an S-Rank on all chapters, you can certainly work though them at this time.

Records / Achievements Earned
You will earn the following achievement by completing all of the chapters on Veteran difficulty:
  • Veteran - Complete all chapters on Veteran

In Game Unlocks
Completing all chapters on Veteran Difficulty will unlock:
  • Professional Difficulty
  • Screen filter (Noise)

Bonus Features
At this point you should have all the weapons you have any real intent on using fully upgraded, so what you purchase in the Bonus Features is really irrelevant, other than you need to purchase everything (other than the infinite ammunition upgrades and filters). So spend to your heart's desire.
Lost In Nightmares DLC
At this point you may be getting a bit tired of the Main Story line as you have seen every chapter multiple times, found all the BSAA emblems and treasures, completed a speed run, gotten an S-Rank on all chapters, and simply played through the game fully at least twice end to end just enjoying the game.

So take a break and work through the Lost In Nightmares DLC. This is a great DLC. This DLC can be found under the "Extra Content" submenu of the "Play Game" menu.

There are no save and continue options for this DLC - so understand that you will be committing a fair amount of time to completing the DLC once you start it. It isn't overly long, but on your first attempt it may take some time to understand each part of the DLC and what you need to do.

We suggest making 5 runs of the full DLC. While this might seem like a lot of runs, there is a purpose for each run.
  • Chris - Normal Difficulty
  • Amateur / Normal - Find all Score Stars
  • Amateur / Normal - Speed Run
  • Veteran - unlock Professional
  • Professional

First Pass: Chris - Normal Difficulty
As always, your first goal is to enjoy the game. The DLC is quite a bit of fun, it also fills in the gaps why Chris thought Jill was dead in the main story line as it is the story of when Chris and Jill went to find and capture / kill Albert Wesker. It also provides a great deal of back story for Wesker and his rise in Umbrella.

There is an "easter egg" in the first part of the game where if you try to leave by the front door a few times, game play will shift to the "fixed camera" perspective of the original Resident Evil game.

The DLC is broken into three sections:
  • Part 1: In the mansion - this is very similar to the original Resident Evil game
  • Part 2: Under ground area where you have no weapons and must solve an elaborate whole map puzzle
  • Part 3: Confront Albert Wesker

Achievements:
  • Must've Got Lost

Second Pass: Find the Stars
There are a total of 18 Score Stars hidden about the areas of the DLC. Since you will be taking the time to locate and shoot each of them, this run isn't likely to be fast enough for a speed run.

Spencer Mansion
  • #01 - Hanging on the light in room behind and below the main stairs in the first room
  • #02 - Window above the main door of the mansion - most visible from 2nd floor
  • #03 - Chandelier above the main entrance lobby - hard to see even from the 2nd floor
  • #04 - After being tossed over broken area Jill can find it is in a corner of the room above a vase. After doors are unlocked Chris can also get to it.
  • #05 - Inside the grandfather clock in dining room
  • #06 - On a shelf in the downstairs bathroom
  • #07 - Table immediately outside of the bedroom with the "Password 3" diary entry
  • #08 - inside a cage in the corner of the storage room with the piles of boxes and crates
  • #09 - On the ceiling of the room where the spikes start coming down - shoot it before entering the room
  • #10 - On the ceiling of the room where the lever to stop the spikes is located
  • #11 - Shortly after using the crank you will "Jump Down" to continue. Once you doo look up and around the room

Prison Cells
  • #12 - Upon entering the prison cells area, follow the narrow corridor along and down some steps, keep going and look in a cell just before the first bend, lying next to a corpse.
  • #13 - On the bottom floor of cells, it is in a cell on the right
  • #14 - From this same location turn around and look up at the 2nd floor walkway
  • #15 - In the first cell on the right at the top of the only set of stairs
  • #16 - After the monster breaks through the brick wall and leaves a hole, go through the hole and turn left. It will be visible behind the bars of the cell.
  • #17 - After releasing the iron gate mechanism head down the stairs to the left of the gate. The Score Star is behind a grate at the base of those stairs

Before proceeding - this is a point of no return - so make sure you have all 17 accounted for.

Spencer Mansion Revisited
  • #18 - After you recover your weapons, return to the top of a pair of stairs where you re-entered the mansion, the last star will be just to the left of the stairs (if you were coming up the stairs).

Achievements:
  • Wish Upon a Star

Third Pass: Speed Run
Technically there is no achievement associated with a "Speed Run" for Lost in Nightmares... however, the key to getting an S-Rank is speed. You will need to kill as many of the monsters you encounter as possible and complete the DLC story as quickly as possible to get the S-Rank. It isn't all that hard to do once you know where everything is, but we found that speed was typically the issue, more than your shooting and killing monsters (which should be relativley straight forward at this point).

There isn't a specific time known that will assure S-Rank...

Achievements:
  • It's Just a Bad Dream

Fourth Pass: Veteran
You have to complete the DLC on Veteran difficulty in order to unlock Professional difficulty. This is a good opportunity to focus on the Kung Fu Fighting achievement as well. To complete this achievement you will need to "counter" the fast cahrge attacks from Wesker 3 to 4 times in your final confrontation.

If you can't get the Kung Fu Fighting achievement to pop it may take fewer successful attempts at the counter attack on Amateur. It has also been suggested that playing as Jill and using her taunt makes it easier to get him to charge at you.

Achievements:
  • Kung Fu Fighting

Unlocks:
  • Professional mode for Lost in Nightmares

Fifth Pass: Professional
All that remains is to complete the DLC on the Professional Difficulty. It is mostly the same but the foes in the Prison and Maze are a bit faster and smarter. In the maze you must find all four pieces for the lock. Wesker in the final act is even more aggressive, stronger, and faster. Every foe also hits "harder" or at least takes more of your life with each hit.

Achievements:
  • Night Terrors

Main Story Shopping Achievements
After the break completing Lost in Nightmares, it is time to finish up the main story line. There is a good chance that you have not quite completed buying everything from the Bonus Features menu and so are missing a few achievements. Since you could have been spending the BP earned in previous runs on a multitude of things, I can't really say how much farming you will need to do nor which achievements you have left to complete... so I'll simply list the achievements here that you get by buying things from the Bonus Features menu:

Stockpile - Obtain all available weapons
Most of the weapons in the game can be obtained for free by finding them in the main story line. However a few of them MUST be purchased and are only available after upgrading some of the weapons in the standard game or completing other achievements. If you did happen to miss picking up any of the "standard" weapons during gameplay - those will also be for sale in the Item Management submenu. The "additional" weapons are:
  • Long Bow - unlocked by fully upgrading the S75 (RIF)
  • Gatling Gun - unlocked by fully upgrading the VZ61 (MG)
  • Hydra shotgun - unlocked by fully upgrading the M37 SG
  • S&W M500 - unlocked by fully upgrading the S&W M29 Mag
  • M93R - unlocked by fully upgrading the M92F HG

Take it to the Max - Completely upgrade all weapons
Only a few weapons in the game can not be upgraded (Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher, Stun Rods, Gatling Gun, and the Long Bow). All other weapons will have at least 3 things to upgrade (Firepower, Reload Speed, and Capacity). Several will have a 4th feature to upgrade (either Piercing or Critical %).

It costs a small fortune to fully upgrade every weapon and almost feels pointless if you aren't planning to use the weapons - however, if you want the achievement, it has to be done.

All Dressed Up - Purchase all available alternative costumes in Bonus Features
There are a total of 8 outfits in the game, 4 for Chris and 4 for Sheva. You do have to unlock them as well as purchase them, but if you have been following this guide at all you will have already unlocked all of them.

You can change the outfit each character uses in the "Special Settings" submenu. Changing the costumes effects most aspects of the game but not all of the cut scenes.

Chris:
  • Safari - unlock by beating the game once
  • S.T.A.R.S. - unlock by finding 25 of the BSAA emblems
  • Warrior - unlocked at the start automatically
  • Heavy Metal - unlocked by beating the game once

Sheva:
  • Clubbin' - unlock by beating the game once
  • Tribal - unlock by finding 30 of the BSAA emblems
  • Business - unlocked at the start automatically
  • Fairy Tale - unlock by beating the game once

Let's Get This Party Started! - Unlock all selectable characters in Versus
At the very bottom of the Bonus Features menu there are 8 Versus characters for sale. Once purchased these characters can be used in the "Extra Content" Versus subgame. You do not need to unlock the characters, they are always available for purchase.
  • Character A: Safari Chris 8,000 points
  • Character B: S.T.A.R.S 13,000 points
  • Character C: Clubbin' Sheva 6,000 points
  • Character D: Tribal Sheva 15,000 points
  • Character E: Jill BSAA 5,000 points
  • Character F: Battle Suit Jill 7,000 points
  • Character G: Midnight Wesker 30,000 points
  • Character H: S.T.A.R.S. Wesker 50,000 points

They're ACTION Figures -Collect all the figurines
There is a very long list of figurines available for purchase in the Bonus Features menu. While there are additional figurines in the Extra Content menu, they are not required for the achievement. Each figurine must also be unlocked by either completing a specific portion of the game, collecting BSAA emblems, or achieving A-Rank or S-Rank in all chapters.

Suggested Farming Location #1 Chapter 4-1 Caverns
I like farming this chapter because the farming is all done right at the start of the chapter with a significant number of treasures always present with little to no resistance from very minor foes.

You will find:
A total of 8,000 BP worth of gems drops before the first door. Occasionally the spiders drop eggs or BP as well. At the door you can chose to quit or restart as you have spent only a couple of minutes.
  • Topaz (Trilliant)
  • Emerald (Pear)
  • Sapphire (Square)
  • Ruby (Pear)
  • (2)Sapphire (Pear)
  • Topaz (Pear)

If you continue, there is significant treasures to be had in the next few areas from each of the burning braziers and many of the coffins/chests. Killing the bat boss at the end will net a "soul stone" worth 10,000 pts... Upping the take to 35K to 40K in about 15 minutes.

Suggested Farming Location #2 Chapter 5-1 Underground Garden
The goal here is to kill all the lickers and pick up the "Lion Hearts" they drop. You should net about 12K BP in roughly 3 to 4 minutes.

Suggested Farming Location #3 Chapter 5-3 Uroboros Research Facility
Run to the safe that is up the first ladder and to the left. The gem nets you 3K BP - rinse and repeat.
Main Story Professional
At this point you are as prepared as you can be, and probably getting a bit bored with the game having done so much farming to buy things of which only a few were probably of passing interest to you... so... let's give the game one more pass and use the infinite weapons and toys you have accumulated and run each chapter one last time on Professional.

The Professional difficulty is no joke. Even with infinite weapons (including a rocket launcher) there will still be a challenge here and there throughout the campaign - though honestly only that very first pass had any deep challenge. Most people find the Ndesu boss fight at the end of chapter 2-3 to be the most challenging boss fight on professional as the Manjini on the sides of the fight can do significant damage and must be delt with while also fending off the boss attacks... and you can't use any of your spiffy new tools being forced to just use the guns on the Jeep.

Achievements
  • War Hero

Desperate Escape
The Desperate Escape DLC completes the story of Resident Evil 5 by letting you know how Jill and Josh wind up in the Helicopter that rescues Chris and Sheva after their defeat of Wesker. "Desperate" is an apt description of the gauntlet Josh and Jill will run to get out of the area as the two are hopelessly outnumbered and out gunned from start to finish.

As you progress through the DLC most locations will spawn an infinite number of foes for you to contend with. The spawning is only ended by progress through the area, so don't think you can clear areas systematically, you will often need to push ahead.

Unlike the Lost in Nightmares DLC, there really are not tricky puzzles to solve, the only puzzle you are presented with is how to knock down each new barrier and out fight the waves of enemies.

Pass #1 - Getaway / Way of the Warrior- Normal
Enjoy the chaos. In your first run of the DLC it is normal to just feel harried and frantic, embrace it and enjoy the almost endless waves of foes set to a frantic sound track and an unnerving push to rush out the door.

Kill as many foes as you can, there will always be more, but luckily they drop a lot of ammunition too as long as you are pressing forward. The goal is to kill 150 enemies to get the "Way of the Warrior" achievement.

Pass #2 Shoot the Messenger - Amateur
While you could get this on the first run, it is highly unlikely as there are a couple of the megaphone Manjini that are super easy to miss... ones you actually have to wait for and watch for to even notice them. It is also not realistic to shoot for an S-Rank while trying to get these specific foes as you time will be slow.

This achievement is easier to get in co-op (remote or couch) because the same person has to kill all of the megaphone Manjini.

There are only three of these foes, but they can be difficult to see or even get to spawn sometimes.
  • #1 - Comes in the first area, typically after you have gotten through the gate and assisted Jill up on the roof. He will spawn back in the area before the gate late in the sequence. Try killing everyone in the area (including anyone that spawns in the towers). If he doesn't spawn you will have to just start over.
  • #2 - After you have breached the final gate and gotten into the large area with two manned grenade launchers at the top of the hill just before the door to leave the area. If you kill everyone in the area, the agitator should appear on top of the wall that had the gate you came through. Use the grenade launchers to kill him and his band of brothers.
  • #3 - In the final stage, after the first timer has run down and the helicopter is circling for another 2 minutes, an Agitator will come up the elevator. You don't have much time, so be prepared and make sure you kill him quickly.

Pass #3 - The Great Escape - S-Rank - Amateur
As with the Lost in Nightmares DLC, the key to getting S-Rank in this DLC is to make the run quickly. But you will also need to keep your hit ratio up, so be careful not to mindlessly spray bullets.

One of the easiest ways to cut time in the escape is to use rocket launchers you find in the area to blow down the gates rather than getting into the grenade launcher nests. Done correctly you really only have to get through two gates this way. Both rocket launchers can be found in areas Jill can assist jump to.

Pass #4 - Veteran
You need to complete a run through the DLC on Veteran difficulty in order to unlock Professional difficulty for the final achievement. Things are harder, but you should know your way through the areas and what resources you can count on as you progress.

Pass #5 - Run the Gauntlet - Professional
Just find a way through it. The final area as you wait for the helicopter will be insane, make sure you are prepared.

Completing this Professional run completes the storyline achievements.
