Background and Early Life
Wei Shen was born in Hong Kong and raised by his mom, Margaret Shen, after his dad walked out on them. He had an older sister, Mimi, and they grew up in Old Prosperity. Wei was tight with his best friend Jackie Ma, along with Winston Chu and Sam "Dogeyes" Lin, who was also Mimi’s boyfriend. Dogeyes got Mimi into drugs, and things spiraled until she ended up in prostitution. Wei hated him so much that he straight up stabbed him with a pen. When he was 10, his family moved to San Francisco, hoping it would help Mimi get clean.
Joining the Police Force
Wei was a top student at PS 121 High School and even went to San Francisco State for a bit before joining the SFPD in 2006. Dude had a clean record, but he was kinda unhinged when it came to handling things, so he got called out for it. Still, his deep knowledge of gang life and fluent Cantonese made him a major asset, and they pulled him into undercover work.

Wei Shen’s life was full of tragedy. His sister, Mimi, died from a drug overdose, and their mom couldn’t handle the pain, so she took her own life. Heartbroken and angry, Wei went down a dark path while working for the SFPD. In 2010, he hunted down Ming Ming Trin, the dealer who sold Mimi the heroin that killed her, tortured him, and shot him dead. Someone snitched to Internal Affairs, but there wasn’t enough proof, and his officer, Lieutenant Franklin Jakes, even covered for him. The case stayed open, but most people figured Wei did it and only joined the gang to get revenge for his sister.

His actions didn’t go unnoticed. Superintendent Thomas Pendrew had been looking for someone to go undercover in the Sun On Yee, and Wei’s brutal revenge made him the perfect candidate. Even though Raymond Mak warned against it, Pendrew recruited Wei and sent him back to Hong Kong.
Undercover Operation: Sun On Yee
Wei's mission kicked off when he got "arrested" in a fake drug bust, giving him the perfect chance to link back up with his childhood friend, Jackie Ma. Jackie brought him into Winston Chu’s Water Street Gang, and from there, Wei climbed the ranks fast. He gained Winston’s trust by helping him go after his rival, Dogeyes Lin, and getting his hands dirty in some brutal jobs.
The Losses Of Ones Dear to Wei Shen /Triad Civil War and Beyond
As Wei Shen delved deeper into As Wei got deeper into the Sun On Yee, his mission stopped being just a job, it became a fight for survival and justice. He grew close to Winston Chu, the hot headed leader of the Water Street Gang, who saw him as a brother and trusted him completely, even though Wei was technically an outsider. Winston’s fiancée, Peggy Li, was one of the few bright spots in his life, her kindness and warmth made her feel like a sister to him, giving him a sense of peace in the middle of all the chaos.

What was supposed to be a day of love and loyalty turned into a total nightmare. Winston and Peggy were slaughtered in an ambush, all because of the Sun On Yee’s internal power struggles. For Wei, this wasn’t just another mission gone wrong, it was personal. He didn’t just lose allies, he lost the closest thing he had to family. Winston and Peggy had taken him in without question, and now they were gone, leaving him with nothing but grief and a burning need for revenge.
With Winston gone, Wei stepped up as the new leader of the Water Street Gang, determined to honor his fallen friends. This was the moment everything changed for him, the line between his job as a cop and his personal vendetta against the triads completely disappeared. It wasn’t just about taking down the Sun On Yee anymore; it was about avenging the only real family he had left.

Losing them was a brutal reminder of the price Wei had to pay for the life he chose. But instead of breaking him, it only fueled his determination to finish what he started, no matter the cost.

After Uncle Po died, chaos broke out in the Sun On Yee as everyone fought for control. Wei sided with Broken Nose Jiang to keep Big Smile Lee from taking over and making things even worse. Things took a dark turn for Wei when Jackie Ma was captured, tortured, and brutally killed by Big Smile Lee’s men. Losing his best friend pushed Wei over the edge, and he went into a full rage. This led to a violent showdown with Big Smile Lee. After enduring torture and a fierce battle, Wei finally killed Lee, ending the chaos and bringing some stability to the triad under Jiang’s leadership.
Aftermath and Legacy
Jackie’s death was the final blow to Wei’s innocence. He’d gone from a hopeful guy looking for justice to a tough, cold enforcer, and the cost was more than he could bear. His heart shattered not just because of the betrayal from people he trusted, but because he realized that in his pursuit of justice, he’d dragged his best friend into a violent world he never deserved.

When Wei faced off with Superintendent Thomas Pendrew, he uncovered the dark truth, Pendrew had been using him for his own benefit all along. In the end, Wei exposed Pendrew’s involvement in Uncle Po’s murder, finally bringing justice to the old man who had once been his mentor.

Even after Wei completed his mission, the emotional toll was far from finished. The burden of his choices, the loss of those he loved, and the constant pull between his role as a cop and his involvement with the triads left him shattered. The Sun On Yee, now under Jiang’s control, gave him some peace, but Wei was never truly free. His mind, haunted by the ghosts of his past, was still locked in a battle with itself.

A Man Defined by Sacrifice
Wei Shen’s story is one of sacrifice, of friendships, family, and innocence, all lost in the chase for justice. It’s a tale of vengeance, not just for the ones he loved, but for the younger version of himself who believed he could save his family and his city. In the end, Wei didn’t stand as a hero, but as a man shaped by tragedy, loyal to those who showed him kindness, and desperately seeking redemption in a world that never gave him any.

@Dan Jackie, he was wayy too soft, all he wanted was to get out from the triads, but his fate was sealed before that happnes. Wei doesn’t go full revenge for his sister because his pain runs deeper, he buries himself in the Triads, not just to destroy them, but maybe to find belonging or control the chaos that killed her. and as for Winston taking Wei in shows how gangs operate loyalty equals family, they give Wei something the law never did: trust. Wei was mixed in with both the cops and with the triads
Pendrew was a shady and dirty cop for sure, but he is doing his job thats all, but he never interfered like the sun on yee and the others... who literally where the reason Wei got end up!

After reading this spoiler, I'm surprise Jackie lasted so long, and Wei is not taking down the whole gang for his sister's death... what's with Winston taking him in as family... it's people who disobey the law... and that Pendrew’s cop seems shady, but I'd side with shady cops all day. Thanks for sharing though, I don't need to play the whole game. with this bs ending.

When I finished the game I was devastated too, it doesn't feel the same roaming the city, missionless and knowing that Jackie is dead...

@Reightch Thanks for the info, it is indeed that Wei did tortured and murdered his sister's drug dealer Ming Ming Trin, and I will add it in the summary, if there is anything to add please let me know!

No mention about how Wei Shen COULD BE one that tortured and murdered his sister's drug dealer that sold her lethal those of heroin that killed her? I don't know, nice but very narrow "summarization" of the main story line. There's much more said in-game and could be done slightly better. 6/10, have an upvote mate.
