How to add Desktop Mate to Windows startup
由 Gabbisan 制作
Welcome to my first guide! It's about how to see Miku every time you turn on your PC and let her run rampant in your Wi-Fi. This uses a Windows application called task scheduler. I'm on Windows 11 but it should work for other versions as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns, this version should be up to date and work with the current DesktopMate version.

STARTUP COMPATIBILITY NOTE: This guide will NOT work if you don't have Steam set to open on startup. Please ensure Steam is set to open on startup in order to see Miku every day.

NOTE FOR DISCORD USERS: To disable Discord activity monitoring for DesktopMate, navigate to Discord settings > Registered Games, find "Desktop Mate" and click the "Toggle Detection" button (It's the middle button that looks like an eye) so that it turns red.

How to see Miku every day!
1. Search “Task Scheduler” in your windows search, and select the application.

2. Select “Create Task…”.

3. In the newly opened window, name and/or describe your task as you see fit, and make sure your settings match the ones highlighted in the image.

4. Navigate to the “Triggers” tab, and select “New…”. Set user as you see fit, however for compatibility I suggest having it only process on your account if you have multiple users on your PC.

5. Under the “Advanced Settings” tab, set your “Delay task for…” an amount long enough for steam to initialize, I use two minutes. Make sure the “Enabled” box is checked at the end. Your trigger settings should look something like this. Now press OK.

6. Navigate to the “Actions” tab, and select “New…” Set the action to “Start a program”.

7. Go into your Steam library, and right click “DesktopMate” > hover over “MANAGE” > and select “Browse local files”. Copy the file directory at the top of file explorer, which is highlighted in the image.

8. Navigate back to the “Task Scheduler” application, and select the “Browse…” button under the “Edit Action" window. Paste the directory into the top search bar, and double-click “DesktopMate”. Now select “OK”.

9. Navigate to the “Conditions” tab, and set the Power and Network sections as you see fit. I suggest setting a network connection argument, since Steam will only initialize if you have internet access.

10. Navigate to the “Settings” tab, and check the “Allow task to be run on demand” box, check the “If the task fails, restart every:” box, and set the values to 1 minute and 3 times. Check the “If the running task does not end when requested, force it to stop” box. Lastly, make sure the final value is set to “Do not start a new instance”.

11. Select OK, and restart to test!

@MaRcO_2527 idk if you still need help with this, but if you make a batch file that runs "start /d "<file directory from step 7>" DesktopMate.exe" without the first quotations and have the task automatically run that it seems to work

to make a batch file all you need to do is make a text file with notepad, paste that in, and then save it as .bat instead of .txt

@MaRcO_2527 you can do the same thing with MelonLoader I think, I'm not sure though because I don't use it. If you just repeat the steps and have MelonLoader launch prior to Miku it might work. but you may have to fiddle with it.

It's not working on startup everytime I go to click on it melon pops up all over again then she pops up.. therefore it won't work on start up I have to actually click on the app to get her to pop up I think it's cause of melon.. can I have melon pop up on start up instead of the actual app???

@Bullfrog098 I’ll double check some of my settings and give it another shot. If it works I’ll add it to the guide and just have two methods, in case one fails.

yes im currently using it like that right now, I can even disable steam auto startup and it'll open up steam for me
Gabbisan  [作者] 1 月 16 日 下午 3:19
@Bullfrog098 did you test this? Because thats pretty much what I did and it stopped working, with other people having the same problem.

If you use steams shortcut instead of a shortcut to the exe, it'll open steam up for you too so you don't need to use a delay. You just need to right click the game in steam, manage, and add shortcut to desktop then you can move said shortcut to the startup folder

@Bullfrog098 That's what the original guide I made did, however, one of the recent updates made it dependent on Steam being running. If you don't delay DesktopMate's startup by like 1 or 2 minutes so Steam can start first, it will cause an error and not launch.

@Fish I definitely agree, but unfortunately the dependencies mean it needs to have steam open first.
