In order to allow players to change character models, they have to be removed from the files for the mod, however, if i were to update the mod by removing Alyx models (which would turn her into an "error" sign as there is no reference to Cinematic Mod's Alyx models, even if it's a standard model) and force all users who have already subscribed to the mod to go back to the mod page, read another requirement and subscribe to the Alyx models of their choice, it wouldn't be ideal, as they would be surprised by Alyx having an "error" model instead. in order not to brick people's saves and force already suscribed users to read another requirement, separate versions were made for that reason. after further evaluation it's clear that this is the better scenario for Alyx models, as people simply do not read the description, so it was aimed to be as user-friendly as possible with as little requirements for the user as possible to be needed.

with Alyx it's not that simple, as she has a completely different name to the one Half-Life 2 normally uses, but there are also multiple sets of models that in the ideal scenario would need to change throughout the game. Half-Life 2 only uses one Alyx model, but since Cinematic Mod intends to have multiple Alyx models change throughout the mod, this had to be done as a separate version and i did not want to remove that feature.

there are a couple of reasons for this. the initial release had only basic alyx model planned to be present, as there was a lot of testing to be done regarding models and what issues they might cause in the mod, as the normal mod is very bloated and the nature behind how many problems there could be wasn't known. after testing i've decided to bring them into the mod and turns out there were a few issues before that, as the maps in the mod itself, even if you want standard models for certain characters, Odessa for example, demand only specific model with a specific name that does not exist in the normal half life 2. other models from the collection can easily be replaced as their names corellate to what the maps want and to the names that the original models have in normal half-life 2.

I'm curious to know why Alyx specifically requires the entire campaign to be reuploaded for every single model variant, when none of the other model replacers seem to have this issue?

Just wondering why this is the case, not trying to start a fight.
