Mod Description

Continuation of Cedaro's amazing mod, Reading Bill.

compatible with 1.5 system.



changes made from original version

- you can not select skill book type, however, you can still select book type (textbook, novel, etc.)
- when colonist reading on reading spot, their joy level doesn't affect their judgement keep reading or not.



Planned Feature

- Mod Configuration Menu.
- Can Enable or disable joy related book reading system when using reading spot.
- Make Option to reading spot work without table and chair(why can not you read a book in floor?)

Sorry everyone, Due to my lack of technical ability, I'm unable to update it to 1.5.

This mod is now under MIT License, anyone willing to take over is welcomed.



Read as planned

Reading Bill is an addon for Vanilla Books Expanded. It allows you to set bill to assign specific pawn to read specific book, intentionally improve their skills.



Usage

Reading Bill introduces a new building: **Reading spot**. Place it onto a table, then you can set bill on it, so simple!



Work type

By default, reading book belongs to Basic work type. If you use with XML Extensions, you can change it in settings.

It's not recommended to change work type during a game, which may leads to unexpected problems. If you still want to, check your mod list to see if you're using any mod that can manage work giver, for example, Work Tab. Then tick off "read book" work giver from every pawn before you make the change.



FAQ

Q: Save compatible?
A: Yes.

Q: Why is my reading spot not working?
A: Reading spot has two needs: should be placed onto a table, and should have a seat in correct direction. Have a check.

Will this mod ever get an update? both 1.6 and the ability for it to read bookcases.

Anther issue I noticed, but could not find out the cause, is that sometimes pawns start reading then stop like a second later, only to get another book that also has a job to read and then switch the books every second.
If only 1 job is set, then pawns will start reading for a second then immediately go do other work, like planting, hauling, crafting, only to come back and read the book for another second only.
Something is interrupting the job and I have no idea what it is.
Nothing in the debug log.

I removed PUAH as well, It felt way too cheaty anyways.

Now the only issue is that the mod cant see books that are in a bookcase.

That would explain why I never got it. I'm not using PUAH in this barebones modlist I'm currently using

Addendum: Its seems to be a conflict with PickUp&Haul mod.Other pawns reserving the item that the pawn wants to use in the reading bill.

So, I often get "started 10 jobs in one tick." error with a fairly large error text.
Any idea why that is? The pawn can read without error, its not a constant issue.
Here is the first 2 lines, if it does not help I can upload it.

confirmed, books in bookshelfs are not registered as available.
Also I would love to have a separate job for reading. I suppose its a lot of work but it would still be awesome.

Seems the bill can't look for books in bookcases. Also Schematics and Tomes don't work through their specific recipes. They do work through the generic 'read books', but you can't set skill limits that way. Which honestly isn't that big a deal, but thought I should include it. The real kicker is the bookcases thing since I would still use this if it didn't have that problem. Didn't find a solution that fiddling with xml would produce

I am not familliar with XML Extensions, so that feature will be looked into quite later.

Does not count stools as a sitting spot. This causes real issues when starting a colony with zero research, and not being able to build chairs until they are researched.
