You probably already know the basics- walk around, pick up the ball by standing next to it, and kick/aim, as well as having a slide and a headbutt. While it may not seem obvious at first, you actually have NINE different ways you can kick the ball.

The nine different kicks are separated by angle and charge amount.

By quickly tapping the button, you can kick at a 45 degree angle a bit in front of you (no direction held), straight up (up held), and totally forward (down held). I'll refer to these as tap kicks for the rest of the guide. The upward tap kick is THE MOST USEFUL KICK. I'll explain why in the combo section, but just know that about 90% of your kicks will be holding up and tapping the button.

By holding and releasing the button, you get a different angle and kick a bit farther. These kicks aren't very useful most of the time, but it'll be helpful to remember the directions they travel in nonetheless. I'll refer to these as hold kicks.

Finally, by fully charging a kick (waiting for your character to flash) you'll do the strongest kick- these are identical in angle to the normal charged kick, but with the benefit of piercing through 1 enemy before slowing down. I'll refer to these as charge kicks. NOTE: THIS DOES NOT DEAL EXTRA DAMAGE TO BOSSES.

In case you didn't know, you can drop through certain platforms by holding down and pressing jump.

Finally, there's the slide and the headbutt. These aren't very good except in niche scenarios- mostly because they make it difficult to retrieve the ball quickly afterwards. Their main use is if your ball is in an infinite loop and you want to get it out before it respawns for a better time bonus, but unless there's only one enemy left I suggest against this.
Points and the Combo System
You may have noticed obtaining different food items from enemies, but not understood exactly why. The game has a combo system that, at least for me, wasn't very intuitive at first.

As long as the ball never stays on the ground without being in your possession for too long, your combo will never drop- even if you die, waste a bunch of time, etc. The ONLY thing that matters is picking the ball up before it turns darker grey.

If you keep up your combo, enemies will drop fries -> pizza -> hot dog -> burger in that order, and then repeatedly drop burgers until the stage ends or you drop the combo. Burgers are worth 1000 points!

Because of this, the best way to farm points (and extra lives!) is to use kicks that will return the ball to you after they kill an enemy, or at least put the ball in a location where you can grab it before it stops bouncing. This is why tap kicks (especially up tap kicks) are the best- unless the ball lands on a platform above you, it will pretty much always return to you after killing an enemy.

You can also abuse the lack of a time requirement to grab burgers before killing more enemies, so you don't accidentally let them despawn. While you do get a time bonus at the end of each stage, the points you get from burgers are worth FAR more than a few seconds. (10 seconds is equal to 1 burger.)

Separately from time bonuses and the combo system are desserts- in a lot of the levels, there are hidden desserts that give you bonus points if you collect them, but they first have to be revealed by kicking a ball into their location. I do not know where ALL of them are, but in the level-by-level section I will show where the ones I have found are.

As a general rule of thumb, if there's a location that looks like you probably wouldn't ever kick a ball there, it probably has a dessert.
World 1
1-1

Basic level with 4 tennis ball dudes, just to introduce you to the enemy. Be careful of their projectiles- projectile enemies are the most dangerous throughout the whole game.

Desserts: None

1-2

Three ping pong balls, again to introduce the enemy. normal tap kicks work better here.

Desserts: None

1-3

Kill the tennis ball ASAP, and then the rest are easy to clean up.

Desserts: None

1-4

This level introduces shuttlecocks. They're usually not a problem as long as you're aware of their path. The tennis balls are in a precarious high ground, so be wary of projectiles.

Desserts: One cake on each top platform, close to the middle.

1-5

The best way to deal with this level is to grab the ball after seeing a safe opening, then up tap kick to the left, and let the infinite loop take care of the level for you while you wait safely on the other side.

Desserts: One chocolate bar at the top of each screenwrap

1-6

This is THE MOST DANGEROUS LEVEL in world 1. If you only lose 1 life in world 1, it will almost certainly be here. Be VERY cautious and don't take risks. The 2nd tennis ball on row 2 will always fire first. If you can't carry a combo for the whole level, don't worry. It's better to keep a life than it is to get a few extra burgers.

Desserts: None

1-7

This level is pretty easy as long as you play safe. Go to the left side first, kill both tennis balls and the shuttlecock, and then go back to the right to kill the other two. Don't go too fast or you'll get hit by a projectile coming back to the right side.

Desserts: None

1-8

Drop down to the left immediately and grab the ball, do an up tap kick, and then clean up. Don't go down unless you have to. Pretty easy level.

Desserts: One sundae in the middle above the ball.

1-9

Last level before the boss. Use up tap kicks to screenwrap and kill the tennis balls, the rest is easy.

Desserts: One cake on each side, under the highest drop-through platform.

1-10

This guy can either be a pushover or a nightmare depending on how many tiny mistakes you make. He always follows the same pattern- hop low twice, hop high once. He throws tennis rackets after taking damage, but if you damage him twice quickly you can cancel that move.

I've found the dessert in 1-2 : it's a chocolate bar that appears when you hit just underneath the middle platform.
