why was this cut? it would have been insanely helpful since literally no one plays the standalone hl2 deathmatch in 2025.

so this is how some random people joined my game lol

there's still active servers though? hl2dm has a pretty niche community even if it doesn't look like it lol. a lot of the time you have to find the IP's of servers yourself though

Frankly, no reason to play it without PvE bots lol

also by copying the dll files in "hl2mp" to "hl2_complete", the expansion loader script will be more unrestricted which allows you to load game dll as well when you change the expansion pack. this allows the hl2mp gamerules to load as well.

if you have half-life source installed, you can also play half-life source as well from the same client by typing "launchmod hl1" into console. you need to swap dlls forementioned, though.

you can probably host it by just doing `maxplayers 32` `sv_lan 0` `map MAP_NAME` and then the other player connects to your ip and port using `connect IP:PORT`

now we just need to figure out how to host servers
