The screen should look like this:

Select "Adjustable" for the Game Speed. Infinite timeouts isn't a bad choice either.

Then start the fight and you can select + and - on the NumPad (the ones next to Backspace might not work). This way you can slow the game down to -10 speed, which will give you time to read descriptions.

Here is an easy win for one of your first games:

- The rook is capable of building defense towers

- Buy at least 1 or 2 teleport scrolls to allow you to almost instantly go to any of your buildings, including your defense towers or flags you own

- A health potion and/or mana potion or 2 might not hurt

- Eventually you might want to buy armor, or other equipment. Look for equipment that make your minions more powerful


- The rook is especially good at taking down enemy towers

- Click the "+" symbol in the lower middle-left of the screen to select upgrades. Some are very useful, especially those that increase tower power and attack power, along with on-board archers that shoot from the rook's shoulder.

- If you can capture an enemy minion gate, that can turn the tide of the battle
