I used to play this game for hundreds of hours back in 1998. I could memorize everything in the game, and I even remade it for a school gaming project. But now, in 2024, the tiny details memories have become blurry. That's why I created this guide—to help new and returning players fully enjoy the experience, by providing some tips on what to do next.

What difficulty is best for you? Want something challenging but not frustrating? Mostly depend on combat style. Depend how wise you spend your ammo, which decide your play-style.


When it activated, all enemies health is increased. Turn it on if you want higher difficulty. Also allow Bad Drops (setting menu) if you think the game is too easy.

When starting a new game, entering these names will carry extra weapon at the beginning. This can either aid in speedrunning the game or increase the difficulty, depending on your choice. FYI: start-up with this will still earn Achievements.

* Burger = +Shotgun +50 shells
* John Woo / Chow Yun Fat = +Dual Pistols +200 bullets
* Mad Dog / Crypto = +Flamethrower +240 gasoline
* Stryder = +5 Ankh
* Edge = +28 Molotov
* Rogue = +1 Knife
* Duncan = Duncan will start hunting player from the beginning
* Gary Lake = Crowbar is the only weapon, and 5% health is the maximum

First Completion: 4-6 hours or more
Second Play-thru for Speed-run: 2 hours or less

The default PC version maps are playable as Mods. Some locations are now more difficult and take longer to complete. Start by adding "-kpf ogpcmaps.kpf " in Launch Options (without the " ") in Steam Library Properties.

* More complex maze
* No more shortcuts
* No powerups
* The add-on content "Bathhouse of Osiris" will be disable, and the White Vessel will return back to Hedge Mansion ground floor.

FYI: You must start a new game, and separate your previous saved files. Because saving or loading those different maps will mess up the gameplay. Eg. Losing all keys & vessels + all enemy & door reset.

WARNING:

Due to current issues with saving and loading, I recommend avoiding loading saved games mid-session, as game entities may not fully load. Instead, fully exit to the desktop before reloading a saved file to prevent potential save file corruption.

Here are some shortcut buttons that the game doesn't mention.

Collecting all ten of them and place them in a Machine Room to unlock Endgame Door. It is located at Conway Estate North Room, 3rd Floor.

Once we obtain a Winged Vessel, its power can be activated from the inventory. However, the effects are temporary, but can be recharged using a white Rejuvenation Vessel.

Those information consider as spoiler, please ignore this section if you are Explorer

92% of them are easily can be done in first play-thru. If you want the last achievement, I recommended to do it on second play-thru. And skip finding white Rejuvenation Vessels.

These power-ups activate instantly upon contact, but their effect is only temporary. Also, there’s an achievement for collecting six of these artifacts, but don’t worry—there are more than six available on this island.

Disclaimers: The following steps are just recommendations. Players are free to choose alternative paths based on their own decisions. Maze solution images are also included, but feel free to ignore them if you prefer exploring on your own.

Hoping to find someone to talk to, but finding no one and then being attacked by gangsters. However, there's a blue energy globe that heals wounds. Believing more of these can be found on the island, You feel confident to venture deeper alone.

* Optional: Search for a hidden pistol (2nd)
* Speed-run Tip: Skip this area if you start-up with weapon aids in a new game

There are many unfriendly hatred gardeners here, and sometimes they drop a red energy globe that really hurts. I’d better run and shoot quickly.

* Objective: Find a lever to unlock door
* Optional 1: Search for a shotgun
* Optional 2: Listen to Tess Conway distress signal
* Speed-run Tip: No shortcut for pulling the lever

* Objective: Find a RSVP invitation card to enter Conway Estate
* Hint: Try look at the west forest
* Secret: You can activate the pool statue
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip the Garden & Kennels




* Objective: Search every room to find a RSVP
Hint: Try 2nd floor
* Option 1: Look for an Egyptian power-up artifacts in the forest, or
* Option 2: Ignore and continue follow the path
* Speed-run Tip: You skip fighting the enemies in this area

The bridge has collapsed, but we’re still able to cross by taking an alternate route.
* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Ear)"
* Optional: Find a Flamethrower in the small cave
* Speed-run Tip: You skip the bedroom, store rooms, and many area

* Objective: Meet Robert
* Option 1: Find your suite on 2nd Floor West Wing
* Option 2: Ignore and continue explore 1st floor
* Speed-run Tip: Move forward to The Guest Quarters





* Objective: Get the "Blue Key" to access Wine Cellar, or Mausoleum later
* Hint 1: Try not to let Vampire Maid see you kill the crazy Maid
* Hint 2: Discover all the secret levers at the center hall
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip the bedroom and corridor

* Objective: Get the "Yellow-Orange Key" to unlock Kitchen door
* Option 1: Watch more ghost story in the clock room (each hour different ghost)
* Option 2: Take risk to unlock unknown doors, which to next the color full stone door, which is called "Endgame Door" let's remember this location.
* Secret 1: You can unlock the Developer Room in the Hallway, active each of them can have different good and bad result.
* Secret 2: You can obtain flamethrower at the developer who have glowing eye.
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip exploration in this area

* Objective 1: Take the "Red Key"
* Objective 2: Find the "Violet Key"
* Hint 1: Shoot Molotov to damage Chef, or spare it & collect them
* Hint 2: There are hidden chef nearby the Golden energy globe
* Option 1: Use the "Violet Key" to unlock 2nd Floor North Door
* Option 2: Unlock Wine Cellar door with "Blue Key"
* Secret: You can unlock a "shortcut" to the 2nd Endgame door at Slaughter Room
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip outdoor kitchen

* Objective 1: Find a way to grab the "Green Blue Key" to access Temple of Isis
We need to find 5 symbols and activate them on the wall. They are marked in yellow on the map. Once all are activated, a completed bridge will be raised, allowing us to grab the key.
* Objective 2: Find out what's behind the wall from the big hole
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip some area by checking the map

This wall painting will be totally different when switching off Hi-Res texture. Activate it if you want more combat.

* Level 1: Find a way to get the "Yellow Key"
* Level 2: Find out what's hiding in the passage
* Speed-run Tip: You can skip some area by checking the map




* Objective 1: Find the "Winged Vessel (Hands)"
We need further down to the Waterway basement
* Objective 2: Find the "Yellow Green Key"
I recommend start exploring from the left, to find "Wrath of Gods"
* Hint: The Key is hidden near to the Waterway entrance (rooms)
We can take a shortcut back to the ground
* Speed-run Tip: Quick grab the key and skip some area by unlocking vessel door at the right side

* Objective: Free to use the Yellow Key, Yellow Green Key
* Option 1: Enter 1st Floor West Wing Conway Estate, or
* Option 2: Enter 2nd Floor East Wing Conway Estate, or
* Option 3: Enter The Lookout Tower & The Topiary at the East Forest

* Objective 1: Find the "Orange Key" in the Smoking Area
* Objective 2: Find the "Green Key" in the Library
* Objective 3: Find the "Winged Vessel (Eye)" in the Library
(There is a unknown switch outside the library, it is actually a switch to unlock the gate. We won't be able to use it, unless... "noclip")
* Option 1: Enter Hedge Maze, or
* Option 2: Enter the Caverns at the West Forest

Once enter the cave, turn right to find a Anhk, or turn left to go further. Unlock the door if you have a Green Key

* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Mouth)"
* Hidden Lever: Podium
* Hidden Passage: Stair to basement behind the podium


* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Legs)"

* Speed-run Tip 1: You can skip ground floor combat
* Speed-run Tip 2: There a shortcut to Mausoleum at the cliff




* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Back)"
The Winged Vessel is not here, let's go further down to Catacombs.
* Hidden Lever: Located where the Amulet of Imentet
* Optional 1: We can find a white Rejuvenation Vessel in cave before going to the Topiary
* Optional 2: Go to the left path (Bathhouse of Osiris) before reaching the Topiary

* Optional Objective: Find a White Rejuvenation Vessel








* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Chest)"
* Hidden Lever: Located behind a plant next to wall
* Hidden Passage: The pool
* Hidden Trigger: Jump on the special platform to unlock door




* Objective: Find the "Winged Vessel (Arms)"

* Objective 1: Find the "Purple Key" which can access Tess's Bedroom
* Objective 2: Find the "Winged Vessel (Heart)"

Room 1 = Left door
Room 2 = Left door
Room 3 = Middle door

* Hint: Choose the person who provide you ammo on this island

* Optional: Watch what happen to Tess & Duncan in the past


Meet Duncan, who now possessed by Seth and has lost his mind. The Waterclock currently is invulnerable because empowered by others 6 waterclocks. You must go back to the Endgame doors to destroy them.
* Objective 1: Find the other 6 Artifacts
* Objective 2: Come back here and shoot it
* Option 1: Fight the immortal Seth
* Option 2: Run away from immortal Seth

* Objective 1: Return to the 4 Endgame doors
* Objective 2: Destroy the total of 6 Egyptian Artifacts
* Option 1: Start from 1st Floor East Wing Conway Estate - Clock Room
* Option 2: Start from 1st Floor East Wing Conway Estate - Kitchen
* Option 3: Start from 1st Floor West Wing Conway Estate - Library Entrance & Inner Library


* Objective 1: Destroy the Waterclock, to meet Tess, who now possessed the power of Isis
* Objective 2: Reject Tess offer
* Bad Ending: You died in this battle
* Good Ending: You managed to stay alive

For those whose nostalgia is rooted in the 1996 PC version, this mod pairs the remastered sprites with nostalgic sound effects. However, if your nostalgia is tied to the 1995 3DO version, please understand that this may not resonate with you.

We all know there’s a cheats menu. Sometimes rapid typers prefer to use it since it’s faster than browsing page by page. However, keep in mind that this will disable Achievements.
