How to play Clanfolk effectively. WIP.
Freshly Starting Out

  1. Straw: Straw is an essential material. You can collect tons of Straw from harvesting Reeds on the shoreline. Remember to replant them once you've harvested a large section. You can also use the Thresher to convert Hay into Straw. You can collect tons of Hay from long grass. If you hover your mouse over an item it will tell you what it yields. Make sure to select "Only harvest 100" so that you don't harvest plants that aren't ready.
  2. Mushrooms: Mushrooms are incredibly useful, especially during the winter[/b]. Mushrooms can be found near tree bases and stumps. You can make them even more accessible by cutting down trees and NOT removing the stump. This will allow Mushrooms to spawn around the stumps. Collect as many Mushrooms as possible before winter and make sure to make multiple drying racks to dry out the Mushrooms. They will not rot away this way and last forever.
  3. Hunting: If you turn on the temperature overlay located in the top right corner you can easily see animals on the map. Bunnies always appear near their bunny holes. If you auto-create 3-6 snares at your Workshop you can then place these snares outside of the bunny holes. Typically you will have a couple of bunnies a day to harvest this way. Make sure to always clear out predators like Wolves and Foxes. If you don't clear out predators they will passively hunt the Deer and bunnies on the map, including your chickens and other animals.[/b].[/olist]

    Structures, Heat & Survival

    1. Building with Straw: There are no disadvantages to building with Straw other than flammability. Straw is a cheap easily attainable material that can be used to throw up quick permanent structures. The key to suitability when it comes to Straw structures is not using heating sources that throw flames unless
    2. [/i] you have a flame blocker in front[/i]. A flame blocker will not allow items that are flammable to be placed on the ground preventing anything from starting a fire. Straw roofs are generally okay to use. However, the main issue with Straw Roofs is that if there's a lightning storm it could light your roof on fire. The chances are low as it's typically raining while storming which puts out fires quickly. When you can, upgrade your roofs to Stone Roofs[/b]. These are not flammable but take a while longer to build.
    3. Heating: When it comes to heating you will want to use multiple Stone Fireplaces. You can heat multiple rooms by placing vents on each wall. This will allow heat to transfer through. Make sure to have plenty of branches before winter. I'd say a decent stockpile would be over 1500 branches. You can collect branches from "gathering branches" or moreso by cutting trees down. Your villagers will automatically light the Fireplaces at night before going to bed if it's going to be cold.
    4. Water & Preserving: During your first winter before unlocking the Well you will have to mine Clay by the water. This will unlock the Kiln and once you create Charcoal it will unlock your ability to craft Jugs. You will want to create about 2 skids of Jugs. Your villagers will fill these Jugs with water automatically, even during winter. Make sure to place your skids of water in a heated room during winter. If you don't place them in a heated room they will eventually freeze at below 0. You can make a Bath to bathe during the winter. Villagers will use water from your Jugs to fill the bath. Preserving food can be challenging. If you're not taking my suggestion on mushrooms your best bet is to mine a room out of a mountain. The temperature in the mountain room will be slightly colder than outside. Make sure to place rat traps around any food you have stored in there to kill of any scavengers.
    5. Poop: Make sure to make a small 1x1 room with a door for your "poop hole." This will make it so you won't have to experience the "Public Pooper" debuff when your villagers use the Poop Hole when out in the open where other villagers can see them lol.
    6. Appeal: If you hover over a room it will give you a negative or positive number displayed on the top left. This indicates the appeal of the room. You want this number to be positive and not negative. You can increase this number by putting hide decorations on the floor/walls, and upgrading your flooring to tile, etc.

    Making Children & Increasing Population

    1. Pregnancy: To get pregnant you must make a private room with a double bed. Couples will automatically claim these beds. They will randomly become pregnant over time. After giving birth they can't become pregnant again for a year.
    2. Population: In order to get more villagers you have to unlock a Worker Sign and also a Messenger Post. Worker Signs will attract workers that will come by your village whom you can hire for a daily wage. Typically around 30-60 currency a day. If you view your family tree and look at who you have available who's single you can hire someone who is the opposite sex and has similar traits. Villagers are more attracted to people with similar traits. If your family member is a Juvenile you're have to wait until their age bar reaches Adult before they're compatible for marriage. Once all boxes have been checked make sure your Worker has 100% Satisfaction which is typically at night when sleeping. Once they're ready you can select the marriage button make sure not to "marry off" otherwise it will send them away. Once married you can make them their own private room with a double bed and let the magic happen overtime. Messenger Posts will spawn a random event after 30 days. My random event was a single mother seeking refuge. Once she gave birth I was able to recruit her into my family.

This guide is a work-in-progress and I'll update it gradually. If you have any suggestions feel free to comment them and if they're applicable to the guide I can add them in. There's more to say about how the game is played but the most difficult part is starting out and getting a stable food source.
