SU-152

The SU-152 was a Soviet self-propelled heavy gun developed during World War II. It was designed in response to the need for a vehicle capable of destroying heavily fortified German positions and tanks, especially in the wake of encounters with the German Tiger and Panther tanks.
In late 1942, the Soviet Union sought a new assault gun to mount a powerful artillery piece on a mobile chassis. Using the KV-1S heavy tank as a base, Soviet engineers mounted the 152mm ML-20 howitzer. The vehicle was rushed into production, and the first SU-152s were delivered in early 1943.
