Overview
"Nonsensical Video Generator" contains eight achievements, most of which are pretty straightforward and won't take too much brain power to figure out. This guide is mostly for the hardest and likely final one you'll need called, "Well That Happened." I strongly recommend messing around with the program and getting most of them naturally through your own sense of curiosity, discovery and a deep primal urge to create ridiculous content. But if you find yourself stuck, fear not, this equally ridiculous guide has your back!

I set this up to be as simple and easy to understand as possible. Achievements are ordered to make the most chronological sense that both teaches the ins and outs of the program as well as mitigate the need to backtrack after learning how things work. Though you're free to stack some of them together if you see fit. For example, immediately changing "Effect Chance" to 100 before generating your first video with user-created content will unlock both simultaneously.

Keep in mind that, at least in my experience, achievements won't actually pop until the game is closed out. If you're unsure whether or not you successfully unlocked what you were shooting for, you'll need to close the program entirely to check.

One last thing to note: The final achievement's unlock method is subject to change and I'll update the guide should the need arise.

With that said, let's get started!
Achievements
Import Master
Add a media file into a library.

Nothin' to it, ya knucklehead! It's easy peasy! From the main menu, click the "Library" tab and here you'll have the option to add your own media into different categories by dragging and dropping videos from your files into the static-filled TVs on the right. Our destination right now is the "Materials" section, which is the main area the generator will pull content from. Slap any random video into this section and you'll have your first shiny new achievement. Your mother and I want you to know... we're proud of you, kiddo.

Render Wizard
Generate your first video.

Now that we've got our content in place and we're feeling pretty good about our choices in life, navigate back to the "Generate" tab on the left, feel free to mess around with any setting you might find interesting on the subsequent pages of this section, then click "Start Rendering." It may come as a shock, but this will start the rendering process. Once it's finished, your video will auto-play (unless you toggled that off) and can be easily found again in the "Library" tab under "Renders." But if you're like me, and I know I am, you'll want to kill two birds with one stone and tackle...

Patience, My Friend
Achieve a high score of 50 in the rendering game.

While your world-changing video is being created using only the finest content, we'll knock out a quick and easy achievement. On the main menu, click the "Game" tab and you'll be taken to... well, it's uh... it's Flappy Bird. More like "Flappy Cursor" I guess. Look, we all know what this is by now. Use your mouse clicks to guide the cursor (whom I've affectionately dubbed "Cursey") through at least 50 of the open wall segments. Congrats, you're a step closer to being the coolest person on the planet. It's piss easy compared to the real game, and even more so when compared to the maddening version in "Goat Simulator." You'll likely get bored long before you lose naturally.

Experimental Era
Render a video with a user-created clip effect from the Steam Workshop.

This one will require us to venture into outside territory... the vast and frightening world of user generated content! Don't worry, even if you're uninitiated with how the Workshop functions, it's pretty straightforward. From the main NVG page in your Steam library, you'll see a tab called "Workshop" that's typically located under your total playtime for any game. Click here and you'll be whisked away to the Steam Workshop, where memes live on eternally and nothing is as it seems. Here you'll find a bunch of options to add some weird and wacky crap to your videos. Find one (or many) that strikes your fancy, give it a click, then hit that bright and inviting "Subscribe" button to instantly add it to your game.

Back in the game's main menu, click the "Addons" tab and here you'll find the brand new effect you just added. Note that if the add-on doesn't show up immediately, you may need to refresh. Scroll to the bottom of the "Addons" tab and under "addon Management" simply click "Reload All." If that doesn't work, close the game and reboot. Once you see the add-on, make sure it's toggled on, then generate another video. The effects will technically trigger at random, BUT you can guarantee it shows up by aiming for our next achievement...

Oops! All Effects!
Use a 100% effect chance in a generated video.

Give Cap'n Crunch the proverbial finger and show him how it's done!. On page 2 of the "Generate" tab, you'll see "Effect Chance" set to 60 by default, meaning any effects you have toggled on will have a 60% chance of activating during your video. But momma didn't raise no fool who's only 60% sure of himself. Crank that sucker up to 11, and by 11 I obviously mean 100. Generate another video and bask in the warm glow of whatever stupid thing you tossed in there. Oh, and your achievement, of course.

Manual Override
Render a video with your own imported outro.

Another simple one. Remember back when we imported our first video? How young and full of life we were? Well it's time to do that again! Only this time we're mixing it up and getting craaaazy with it! Second verse, same as the first. In the "Library" tab, instead of the general "Materials" section we worked with earlier, click on "Outros" and drag a new video to the TVs. It can be any video, but it's best to have a short one for the sake of an outro. By default, NVG has its own outro, but you can toggle this off using the tiny little switch directly under the middle of the video. Once yours is in place, make sure it's toggled on, generate again, and bingo! Achievement City! A bustling metropolis where only the strong survive.

Green Screen Guru
Use a chroma key overlay in a generated video.

One of my favorite achievements, though admittedly it can be a bit confusing if you're not familiar with the terminology. Luckily I'm a video editor in my spare time, so I had a few of the necessary videos lying around. "Chroma key" is essentially a fancy way of saying "your green screen effect will work now." At least that's a simplistic description. For this, you'll need a green screen video to upload into the "Overlays" section of the "Library" tab. That's really all there is to this one, but actually getting the video is the tricky part. I personally get mine straight from YouTube using RealPlayer's video download feature. It's simple to install and gives you a little drop-down tab at the direct top center of your screen. It's great for downloading videos from almost anywhere without having to worry about restrictions. Though it doesn't work with all websites, I've mostly had good luck with it.

In any case, we need to get our hands on an already green-screened video, so type in "green screen" on YouTube and you're likely to find a plethora of gold. I'm partial to the Landlord from "Smiling Friends" and his deep love of "Burnout Revenge" for the PS2! Once you jumped through all the hurdles of acquiring the necessary video, throw it into "Overlays" and start converting. Feel free to tweak the settings like we did earlier if you want to guarantee it shows up. Another one in the bag!
The Last Hurrah!
Well That Happened
Cause a Lua error while scripting your own effect.

This is it. The one that separates the men from some kind of amorphous blob creature. I stuggled with this one until the program's developer, "KiwifruitDev" was kind enough to give a thorough explanation, so I'm passing that knowledge directly to you! While it's pretty straightforward once you actually know the steps, even Kiwifruit themselves recognized it to be convoluted and difficult to figure out. Kind of a "the smart people will get this one" achievement, which explains my issues! An important note, however. If you decide you don't want to take the steps to get this final achievement, as it does require another quick download of an outside program, the dev has stated they're working on an update to make it easier to obtain. The choice is yours and yours alone, but I would recommend just ripping off the bandaid, as it's really not that bad.

To start, we're gonna need to quickly download a program called "Visual Studio Code" or "VS Code" for short. It's actually a Windows program and can be easily found in the Microsoft Store completely free. Once it's downloaded, head back to NVG and click the "Addons" tab once again. Scroll to the bottom and hit the "Addon Management" button, which will allow you to create your own effect and upload it to the Workshop, should you ever be so inclined. But for our purposes, we're simply making a "dummy" effect for the achievement. Name it whatever you like, or simply leave it as "Untitled Effect," then click "Create" twice. Once to select it, and again to confirm you want to create the effect. Your newly created effect should now be in the add-on menu, but if for some reason it doesn't show up, just go back to "Addon Management" and click "Reload All." I've had some issues with my effects not showing up, but eventually it did work.

Now all we have to do is take our effect and absolutely destroy its integrity. Not by insulting it emotionally with devastating jabs at its self-esteem, but by using our new VS Code program to mess it up. Code is extremely sensitive when it comes to making software run properly, so if even one bit of code goes missing or gets changed, well... You probably see where I'm going with this. Once you see your new effect in the "Addons" tab, click the actual name of it and it'll open a file on your PC where it's located. Right click this file, select "Open with...," then double-click "Visual Studio Code." Here you'll have two tabs already open. One welcoming you to the program, and another with the code for your effect. Click that code tab, and behold! Your absolutely incomprehensible mish-mash of nonsense that is your effect! Tme to jack this mother up!

At this point, all I did was completely delete everything, replace the text with the word "badcode" (no quotation marks), then finally click "File" and hit "Save." Feel free to close out of VS Code and head back to NVG for the final step. Head on back to "Addon Management" one last time and click the "Reload All" button again. Now all you have to do is hit F5, which will bring up a menu showing that your effect became corrupted if you did all the steps properly. Close "Nonsensical Video Generator" and, with a little luck, the last remaining achievement should be yours! Conglaturation!!! You have completed a great game. And prooved the justice of our culture.

Now I do want to add that the dev did mention another workaround for this if you don't want to download VS Code, but if I'm being perfectly honest, I didn't quite grasp what they were getting at as I'm not the most tech-savvy. Their instructions were to:
"Go to this folder, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NonsensicalVideoGenerator\plugins\user\untitled and change the steamapps folder to where the Steam library that NVG is installed to is located if it's not on your C drive
Open untitled.lua in Notepad or a different text editor of your choosing."
Final Thoughts and Special Thanks
There you have it! A bit complicated for the end goal, but nobody said the life of achievement hunters would be all sunshine and rainbows. I do hope Kiwifruit is able to implement an easier method to unlock the final achievement sooner rather than later. If only to not need a degree in coding and a hacker in your ear walking you through the process. But until then, hopefully this helped make it a little simpler for people who want to get it right away.

Special thanks to KiwifruitDev for the lengthy explanation and inspiring me to pass the info along with this guide. Also a huge shout out to Vinny from Vinesauce and his "Commercial Chaos" segments on YouTube for introducing NVG to me and everybody else who loves his content. Keep SPEENing for the stars and never stop generating poops!

I know that this is pretty old, but I think it's important to know that the game is in the Credits section, there's no Game tab.

hey if you have a chance, there are new achievement icons and the lua error achievement should be easier to get :)
