Society & Animals in 2008 argued for the existence of a “species identity disorder” in some furries. Species identity disorder is modeled ongender identity disorder, itself a highly controversial diagnosis that has been criticized for pathologizing homosexuality and transgendered people. How does this relate to TF2? One must look at the community that TF2 has become to find the answers. TF2 has a multitude of servers dedicated to furries and bronies. Ozzy furocity, Poniponiponi, and Pony Fortress just to name some. This high percentage of furries and bronies is unheard of in other online games. TF2 has become a community hub for these people... but why? Surely there is a reason to it. Although we will never know for sure why exactly they migrated to TF2 we can know for sure they're here to stay, and they're growing in numbers. Ozzy Furocity has an astounding 18,078 active players alone, while the brony scene has a higher amount of players than OZFUR it is still an accomplishment. Furries and bronies take up a small portion of our population. One way to calculate the population of something is by using a known quantity of a subset of that population, and knowing what percentage that subset was of the total population.By using the quantity data of conventions, along with data about what conventions furries attended in 2011 from the Furry Survey. Cutting out all the dry calculations recent numbers point to around 60,300 furries in the world in 2011 calculation. Of course this fandom is growing but looking at these numbers it shows that a good portion of furries lie within TF2. It is because the numbers of furries are so high that they keep on coming into the game. It is a social hub for them to play together and chat with eachother. It's the perfect enviroment.

Most furries believe this to be true, that they are infact an animal trapped inside a human being. Unfortunately this delusion is wide spread and for the most part untreatable. It is just like any other personality disorder if it sticks with the individual too long it can consume who they really are. The scary part of this is that the furry fandom is consuming the TF2 community at a rapid rate. People who are unsure or just plain dont fit in with society might find comfort in these furry/brony groups. The only method is to counter it one at a time. Treat it like the disorder it is with therapy and, if need be, medication.
