First you should go here:

• /Steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life/valve/sprites

You can easily access game files by going to your Steam library > Manage > Browse local files.

Now search for a text file simply calleed "Hud" (hud.txt).

Open it and you'll find various sections and scales for different resolutions. With a quick analysis you'll realize every section goes for one specific scale of the HUD sprites.

Here's in order:

• Header.
  
  
• HUD scale for 2560x1440 or higher.
  
  
• HUD scale for 1280x720 or higher.
  
  
• HUD scale for 640x480 or higher.
  
  
• HUD scale for 320x240 or higher.

What you have to do here is replace any value given to 1280 or 2560 to the ones from 640, like this:



And repeat this with every other text file which name starts with the word "weapon".

If you have a resolution of 1280x720 or higher, download this file and simply extract it on the "sprites" folder.

It should work.

Click on Half-Life in your library, then properties > betas > Beta Participation and select "steam_legacy - Pre-25 Anniversary Build"



This will go back to legacy Half-Life, this way you can use classic HUD scale and install mods.
