Set in the zombie apocalypse and released November 17th, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Left 4 Dead, the #1 co-op game released November 17th, 2008. This co-operative action horror FPS takes you and your friends through the cities, swamps and cemeteries of the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans across five expansive campaigns.

You'll play as one of four new survivors armed with a wide and devastating array of classic and upgraded weapons. In addition to firearms, you'll also get a chance to take out some aggression on infected with a variety of carnage-creating melee weapons, from chainsaws to axes and even the deadly frying pan. You'll be putting these weapons to the test against (or playing as in Versus) three horrific and formidable new Special Infected. You'll also encounter five new “uncommon” common infected, including the terrifying Mudmen.

After initial backlash for Valve announcing a sequel to 2008's Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 launched to commercial success and longlasting longevity. To this day L4D2 has a very active fanbase and modding community as one of the best co-op games of all time.

Left 4 Dead 2 begins at the beginning of the Green Flu Outbreak. Just two weeks before our og crew would get stuck on a Rooftop and head to No Mercy Hospital. When left behind from Evac by the military 4 survivors - Nick, Rochelle, Coach and Ellis must stick together and make their way through Louisiana to the next Evacuation Zone miles and miles away.

2 Weeks after the Dead Center incident 4 other survivors - Bill, Zoey, Louis and Francis, who are already accustomed to each other, work together to survive and make their way through Pennsylvania to be rescued by the Military. Eventually both groups cross paths after an unfortunate incident in The Sacrifice.

L4D2 has many gamemodes, some deader than others, and some with some challenge to it.
Some of these modes can be easy for achievements or be used with mods

Each one features its own things. The most notable are Mutations which offer various different ways to play the campaigns such as melee only, Little Rocket Man, All infected are Tanks, etc. They can be pretty fun and rewarding. Realism offers a more risky and dangerous approach with no HUD, no teammate outline and the difficulty is on Expert if you choose. This can also be played in Versus and is a good challenge.

VS is pretty simple. 4 Survivors Versus 4 Special Infected.

Each team will take turns playing as Survivors and Infected racing to see who can accumulate more points and get a higher score by the finale.

Playing as Survivors is like normal but with more antsy as the Infected are player controlled

Playing as Special Infected is where this mode shines as you're given the role of either a Hunter, Smoker, Boomer, Charger, Spitter or a Jockey. And occasionally you'll be given the chance to play as the Tank and cause panic among the living.

Work together with your team and you may just get the higher score

If you want to up the ante you can play 10v10 versus for a even more interesting challenge. ZombieIslands is a community made custom gamemode allowing for you to pit 10 survivors against 10 special infected. And while that sounds insane, well...it is.

The Workshop is the bread and butter of L4D2. This is why the game has stayed relevant and active for 17 years. L4D2's workshop has such a vast variety of content it would take forever to actually play with every combination possible. With how much it offers, you're blessed with endless hours of funny, wacky, degenerate and just outright chaotic gameplay that you can either destroy your game or make it a whole new one altogether.

If you wanted Gordon Freeman, Sweet Baby Rays BBQ, Master Chief and Hatsune Miku on your team WELL you can. At the end of the day, if you think it, you probably can.

If you have the time and skills you can make your own addons and upload them to the workshop. Hell even commissions if you wanted to earn from your efforts. I've personally made my game super tactical and realistic AND completely destroyed my game with mods before. Both are a surreal experience i can guarantee you.

IF YOU HAVE TOO MANY MODS WHILE PLAYING YOUR GAME MIGHT BECOME UNSTABLE

Having a few mods should be okay, but if you have 100+ mods with 4K textures and graphics overhauls, don't be surprised if your game is unstable. Left 4 Dead 2 has a ~3 GB RAM usage ceiling, if you get over that your game will crash.
Your addons are loaded into memory as you play and if you have too many, you risk running out of available memory.

Left 4 Dead: Survivors (Left 4 Dead: 生存者たち, (Seizonshatachi)) is a version of Left 4 Dead 2 released on December 10, 2014, for Japanese arcades by Taito. The game features the same scenarios and locations as L4D2, but features a different cast of survivors unique to this edition.

The Japanese arcade version of the second game follows the same route and story, but features four Survivors exclusive to the Arcade edition:
