if you're also having issues like this (screenshot), where it shows the tittle bar only, what you need to do is go to C:\Users\yourpcname\Documents\My Games, delete american mcgee's alice file, you'd save it elsewhere first if you want to keep the save files/key bindings, to paste it back once it works again, done, issue fixed.
