Introduction and the Difficulty Setting
For starters, the game is already difficult as it can get, right? Well, that is until you realize that there's a cheat code that changes the difficulty setting to your liking known as "howhardcanitbeX". It ranges from 0 (the easiest setting for babies and so-called "video game journalists") to 9 (the hardest setting). In this guide, we'll immediately put the setting to "howhardcanitbe9" like real men.
Controls and Transmission
The game offers you to play with either a keyboard or a controller (despite the issues, there's a workaround or two to make it possible on the PC port).

While the latter's easier considering you can use analog sticks to provide yourself smooth steering rather than instantly turning (considering it's extremely sensitive with the keyboard and you could lose some speed as result), you can beat the game just fine regardless of what you're using to play. Though I recommend keyboard if you got the cojones. ;)

As for transmission, I highly recommend going with Manual, since you can drive faster than in Automatic (it's still possible to perform the "fishtail" trick as well if you want to).
Important rules for the true MCII experience
This is it, the moment that you've been waiting for:
Career mode:
  • You must beat the game from start to finish with a fresh new save as doing a "New Game Plus" run with howhardcanitbe9 setting gives you an unnecessary advantage way too early and won't give you much of a challenge. And let's not get started with the ability to use ALL vehicles like the Veloci either!
  • Memorize the race layouts for your victory and use them wisely. While there's some room for error, keep in mind that the racer AI will break your legs if you do a fatal mishap. This also applies to the upcoming circuit races in Arcade mode.
  • Choose your vehicle carefully and what suits the best as long it's able to keep toe-to-toe on the rival that you're racing against.
  • Beat all rivals in the correct order.
    • Los Angeles: Moses, Steven, Maria, Angel (and Diego), Gina, Hector and Dice.
    • Paris: Blog, Julie & Jewel, Primo, Stephane, Ian, Farid (and Owen) and Parfait.
    • Tokyo: Shing (and Ichiro), Ricky, Haley, Nikko, Zen, Ken'ichi and Makoto.
  • DON'T CHANGE THE "HOWHARDCANITBE" DIFFICULTY SETTING TO 8 OR BELOW! If you do and beat a rival after, it will render the entire experience moot and you'll have to start all over again. Don't be a wuss or you'll end up like this schmuck below!
Now onto Arcade mode's circuit races for some extra challenge:
  • Veloci and cop cars in general are NOT allowed until you reach 100% completion and get your hands on the SLF450X. After that, you're free to mess around with them.
  • Use existing vehicles that aren't used by AI racers or others that are unlocked after (For example: One of the races in Paris pits you against AI racers with Bryanston V's and you should use those which have been obtained previously like Boost, Jersey XS or Cohete). Also, "mirror matches" aren't allowed either.
  • Fire nitrous in the right moment (and pay attention to the AI on when they'll blast ahead or not) and don't screw up.
  • Bikes are fine, as long you're following the aformentioned rule regarding the previously unlocked vehicles.

    Ran out of pictures per section, so here's a dumb Test Drive 6 Lotus Elise edit that was stolen from someone else.
Conclusion
If you follow the rules, regain your sanity and managed to achieve 100% completion, congratulations! You've completed the game and become worthy of the World Champion title. You must feel proud of yourself after all that pain, kicking and screaming in front of your computer screen. After that long journey for the true Midnight Club II experience, you should probably take a rest now, maybe play another game, or even go outside for a bit to relax...

...or you could play again, and this time see if you have improved by beating your best time per race. The choice is up to you, though...

I got myself all the way to the Saikou with the 1971 Bestia in Howhardcanitbe9

It's definitely a pain in the ass, but... You can do the entirety of LA and Paris with that car. You can get half of Tokyo done quite reliably, though you need to make use of slipstream a few times as you NEED the speedbosts to reach some of the jumps and you only have one can of nitrous.

You can, however, fishtail with it if you REALLY want to, though I found myself losing more than winning when I tried to do so.

The last 3/4 racers are probably unbeatable reliably with it, you could, however, get exceptionally lucky and get it done after trial/error, besides Savo.

What I did was rely on the Bestia 1971 for as long as I could, then I changed to the Victory for the last ones.

Got myself to finish off Savo using the Knight and the Vortex 5 along with the Victory

It's doable, but here's a better challenge:

Beat the entire game with a fresh new save on Howhardcanitbe9 with the Emu, since it can fishtail. Though it's not possible with the Cocotte or Citi despite Dreemax's footage shows it otherwise (spoiler alert: He actually modded the game to make the Cocotte fishtail, which is borderline impossible in the vanilla game).

But have you beaten the whole game up until you reach Savo on Howhardcanitbe9 using ONLY the Jersey XS?

After this challenge, I can confirm, that I became a psycho and got an eye and a hand tremor. Approved this guide :steamthumbsup: Also can check "new challenge" mod with "howhardcanitbe9" after completing original game
